Wow! Every single reply on here is the same. And everyone's doctors seem to say exactly the same thing. They don't like being told their work isn't working! I was yelled at. I'm in a lot of pain and not confident that I will get any positive help. After 62 surgeries, Im getting sick of this. Good luck to you all!

I had my hip replaced 3 months ago. Quite painful, but it has subsided , I am not that steady on my feet but i tend to think after reading all of these posts that every individual is different. I now have my hip feeling ok, the outer middle of my thigh is painful but not that heavy, I think it may be the scar up my leg and the muscle still settling back into where it was.
I think that from all the posts I've read that perhaps you have to look into your lifestyle from before you had a bad hip and see if something in the past has not created added problems when having a hip operation.
The reason I say this is that after being off my new hip left leg for a couple of months my right knee decided to give me pain and a little bit of loose cartlidge, its not really bad but uncomfortable to walk a lot. I spent a working life stepping in and out of a van as a mail collector and did this stepping out dozens of times a day. Also the job involved a great deal of lifting and a great deal of arms above the shoulder tipping of mail bags.
Consequently I have some bad arthritis in my neck shoulders upper region and some times down both the outsides of my arms almost to the point where the first time it happened, riding a bike, I thought I was having a heart attack, it is a long time ago , so I had all that tested.I was OK it was the mechanics of my body, from all the lifting , I also did lots of bending for work and have got a lower back pain too .
The point I'm trying to make to others who have post hip replacement pain, on going, is that it may also be other things, worn or injured over the course of your working life or sports injury, or, for the
US Army soldier who's post I read , it may be due to service sir. From the past.
I know my knee was already bad , I always had a bad lower back and our parcel /letter bag tipping was relentless, so my hip operation I think has simply allowed other parts of my body to carry the weight , now they are complaining to me ha ha . So perhaps the fear of botched operation can be let go , and also I think that total hip replacement takes a year or more of doing the right thing to heal it. Some people get back too quickly to their normal activities ,my surgeon made me wait almost three months before saying I could go off the double then single crutches that I used, his words were , it is better to walk well with help from crutches than to walk badly without crutches too early, because you may not get totally right.
But your body compensates and can create other things not directly related to the hip but from another weak point, I'll say, in your body.
I do know that my right knee will have to have something done to it soon. Hope you are all feeling better now, from Australia. Good luck.

I had the same, and I had a loose prosthesis stem and an infection. I am in the hospital as I type this, recovering from a hip revision and staph infection. 2 step revision with PIC line IV twice a day and a spacer put in to replace the old prosthesis. 2nd operation to replace the spacer with a new prosthesis will be done when infection is gone..about 6 weeks worth of VANCOMYCIN antibiotic drip IV. Pretty killer stuff..but I'm going to make it. Will never run again but would be happy to hike and lift. Get a bone scan ASAP..ALL total hip patients if they can't get rid of your pain after THR .. and you've tried everything! Good luck, hope this helps! Mary Beth

80 yo and in excellent health. Jan 2016 R total hip, anterior approach. Did well. about 5 months post op, i began having the exact same pain as you. Arising after sitting severe pain in anterior lateral thigh, Nearly fall, after a few steps it becomes bearable. I can walk several miles with mild tolerable discomfort in the area. All workup normal, except for small bone spur in area. Considering that maybe part of the Quadricep is "catching" on it.

Did you have an anterior hip replacement that caused the pain in your mid-thigh?

Tanya, I had an anterior hip replacement in August 2015 and am still feeling
pain in my quads but only when I walk. If I sleep or sit or even stand, I am
kind of fine. It's only the walking that makes for the pain. I had a posterior
hip replacement in 2006 and NEVER had a problem. Did you learn what is
causing this? I am having an MRI this friday since the X-rays are normal.

Dear Sue,
This post being over a year old, it's quite possible this reply will never be seen by you. If you are a veteran, then why not a va clinic somewhere? Boy, those doctors sure hacked you up and at such a young age. Anyways, am sorry. I am on this site looking for answer to my own hip pain. So far, some have quite useful replies. I have a vast magnitude of autoimmune diseases which were prior to my PHR of my right hip. I am no stranger to pain. I've always thought surgeries, broken bones - well, they mend. Diseases never mend and the pain seems different. In regards to myself, my neurologist seems to think it is nerve pain. With me it's sitting, travelling.,, just the vibrations and riding in a vehicle brings on moderate to severe pain. I hope you have been to a lawyer and see about Social Security (SSI or SSDI). Certainly the payments are paltry pennies in comparison to the life we had when working but let there be "Ramen Noodles!" I hope this find your health better and may You and Your's have a Merry Christmas and a Happier New Year.
Always
Pam

Fibromyalig
ia is a sleep disorder, the cells of the body repair themselves when we sleep. People with fibromyalgia don't fall into deep sleep so the cells don't repair and cause pain in the joints and muscles. The condition can be brought on by a trauma, physical or emotional also by a severe viral infection. It is a very difficult condition to diagnose. There is a medication called amytryptaline that allows the brain to fall into deep sleep. It MIGHT be this, you could ask your doctor about it. Good luck. It took me 2 years to finally get the diagnosis of this condition, I could hardly walk and felt as if I had the flu. After 3 weeks of meds. I was back to being my super fit healthy self.

I had left THR on 29th Sept 2016, for the first 4 months I was practically pain free with the exception of what I thought was muscle pain. I gave this pain the title of muscle pain because I thought it was due to my altered walking technique as I had been limping quite severely for 10yrs or so. Now when I stand from sitting or lying I get a very annoying pain in my front upper thigh. I have made an appointment to see my doctor this week to ask if this is normal or not as I have been told that pain in the first 12 months is not uncommon. In an attempt to get my legs working properly again and regain some muscle tone in my left leg I have started to walk a little more than I have been used to particularly before my op and I now walk around 3.5km every other day maybe this is the cause of the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I've had a similar experience; can't figure out what's going on. Thought it was due to cold rainy weather in Northern California, my fix says no. It seems to happen or hurt if I sit or drive too long. It is hard to sleep at night, I find myself still taking pain meds to sleep. Please help!

Interesting similarities with me. I just had a total left hip replacement, and sadly surgeons do not prepare you for all these common complications. Ie; the leg that was operated on will be LONGER after surgery.Mine was an inch longer and I waddled like a duck. If you do all your daily exercises, the legs will start to even out. I went to a special shoe store and they made me a quarter inch "lift" to put in the good legs shoe. I healed great, but now 4 months later, my thigh is still numb and feels weird....And may never improve! Doctors don't want you to know all this. Now I get these sharp stinging jabs....Feels like something is biting me in the thigh. That is from all the nerve endings the Surgeon had to cut through to get the job done. Nerve endings have to reconnect. Don't know when this new pain stops, or if it ever does. Muscle relaxers or anti inflammatory meds are useless. Heat pad feels good. Keep doing exercises daily, and keep pain meds on hand as needed. We all have to live with these "new" symptoms.

A year after my hip replacement my whole body ached as I also rocked when I walked. Had 2nd surgery to replace the pin length in the ball. Huge difference having legs same length. Still experience pain getting up and down but walking and staying upright, no pain at all??

I had total right hip replacement on 10/3/17. Was doing well until I ended up in bed with pneumonia mid-December 2017. Now I can barely walk or stand for any length of time. The pain is incredible. Goes from my butt down to my knee. My leg is now going numb if I'm on it too long. Have tried PT and Chiropractor but nothing has worked. I do not take meds other than Aleve because everything else makes me very sick. Surgeon has no answers and doesn't suggest any tests. Sorry I ever had it done - this has changed my life and not for the better which is what I was promised. Where do we go for answers???
