Hi everyone,  have learnt a bit from reading some of these posts.  I am due to have the ablation on Fri 5th April.  I was 40 last year and have always suffered from VERY heavy bleeding since my periods started aged 12.  I did have an operation in 1996 and then was put on the pill which did help but I didn't want to go back on them.  I was fitted with a Mirena coil last summer and felt absolutely dreadful from day one until about 3 days after it came out with one of the large clots that I pass.  I bled the whole 3 months I had the coil and even the various tablets I was prescribed to stop it didn't work.

My consultant did a hysteroscopy and biopsy under general anaesthetic in December which thankfully all came back clear so I must just have an overactive uterine lining (lucky me!)  Unlucky me in that I have been bleeding pretty much every week in nearly a year and am so exhausted that I cannot wait for this op!  I have been given 2 Zoladex injections prior to the next proceedure in the hope that this will improve my chances of success but even with those I have only had 10 days without a bleed in 6 weeks so anything after the op should be an improvement.

I can't be any more irritable after the op than I am now.. my 6 yr old son asked why I have to go into hospital and I have told him that the Doc hopes to make me a nicer Mummy!

Fortunately, my op is scheduled for a Fri morning so I will be at home all weekend anyway to rest and recover, and I work for myself so I can take as many days off as I want afterwards too.  All being well I am looking forward to getting away on holidays in July without having to carry multiple packs of STs and having to go to the loo every half hour!

I had terrible back pain after the surgery. I am just past the 10 day mark. I laid on the floor which was excruciating and moved my bent knees back and forth to massage the area. It helped massage the muscles and I was much better after. I think it had to do with the surgery and the cramping afterwards. Hope that helps

I am just now speaking to my doctor about the ablation.  After reading all these comments I might just go ahead and get the hysterectomy.  If I have this procedure done first and it doesn't work then I will have to do the hysterectomy anyways so not sure I want to put myself thru this ablation after the horrible things that all of you have gone thru.  I would rather skip the bs and go right for the other.  My doctor is going to do all the test that some of you have had and make a judgement and decision from there.  I guess I will decide after that if it is all gonna be worth trying ablation first.  Thanks again for the comments they certainly have helped me.....

I had the Novasure procedure less than a week ago (4/11/13) to alleviate my adenomyosis. Have had very little cramping and the pinkish discharge when I urinate, along with the brown discharge - so recovery is going great so far. But this morning I noticed a more solid discharge, like when I have my period. Is this normal?

I read all the forums before I had my procedure done and what you see is enough to scare the stuffing out of you!  So I made a promise to myself that I would track my recovery and post it so that (hopefully) not only the horror stories are heard - but some of the successes, too!  And so far so good!

I am 42, with 2 grown girls.  Normal 28 day cycles up until about year ago.  Diagnosed with perimenopause at age 41.  By 42 had an ovarian cyst, fibroids, bleeding heavily with cycles anywhere from 10-13 days apart and 8-12 days long!  I had the biopsy first - all normal just way too much lining.  It was never properly sloughing off - hence the almost never-ending heavy bleeding, huge clots and severe cramping.

I had the hydrothermal ablation (Genesys) done on 28Mar, along with a hysteroscopy and a bonus D&C.  I was on day 6 of my period at the time of surgery.  I woke in pain (managed by hydrocodone) but the ride home was NOT pleasant.  I took pain killers the day of and for 2 days after.  Mostly I just felt crampy and bloated with a lot of pressure on pelvic region.  And it hurt to sit down - apparently things swell....

I had watery discharge with an occasional pink/reddish from the start through 1st week.   At one week post op - just a slight crampy/heavy feeling in lower ab region.  Less for 2nd week, barely any for 3rd week and today is the first day without any discharge at all - 3.5 weeks.  I fluffed up 7 pounds the day I came home from my surgery and lost all of that by one week post-op.  I took 2 weeks off of exercising (free weights) and when I restarted there was no issues or even knowledge that I had had anything done!  Zero residual pressure or crampiness!  So far, so good!  My doc scheduled my follow-up for 6 weeks (May 8) as he wanted to give my body a chance to see 'if it took or not'.

Hi There,

I had the Novasure procedure done on April 3rd.  It was done in the doctor's office under a local.  The procedure went really well.  I was in no pain at all during the procedure and after 40 minutes of post-procedure monitoring, I was ok to go home.  I had very minimal cramping and only took 1 oxycodone pill before I left the office (at the suggestion of my nurse).  I was really surprised at how little cramping I had after the procedure was done.  I only had to take 800mg of Ibuprofen for the first day after the procedure and was fine.  My spotting was minimal and I am still spotting 2 1/2 weeks post procedure.  I haven't noticed any moodiness, but will be happy when the spotting goes away as I hate wearing pads.

I will say that I was scheduled to get my period a week after the procedure and only noticed that instead of the discharge being brown, it was pink and minimal.  My doctor told me to give my body 3-4 months to heal and then we'll see what my periods are like.  My periods the year prior were horrendous.  First 2 days bleeding was so heavy that I had to double up on products and couldn't be away from bathroom all.  Cramping was also unbearable!!

All in all, I've been very happy with the results.  If my periods consist of spotting...I will be elated compared to what they were!

I'll keep everyone posted.

You are too soon post ablation to know whether or not you will have a period or not. I had my surgery 12 days ago today. In the Novasure brochure, it tells you that it takes 2 to 3 months for your uterus to heal and therefore won't know what your cycle is going to be like until then.

I had a great surgery. Very little cramping that day. Not bad enough to have to take anything for pain. I had discharge and orange looking, light blood, but then for two days, I bleed dark red and had to wear a pad instead of a liner. Those two days that I bleed darker would have been the time I would start my period. Not sure if that was my period, but will find out when I see the Doctor on Monday.

I would love to stop the periods all together, however if my periods end up like they were the other day, I'm ecstatic!

I will keep you informed on my Doc says.

Ablation does not effect your hormones. You will still get symptoms of PMS.

I just spoke with my doctor about the option of ablation v. hysterectomy. I am anemic and all my doctors think its due to my heavy bleeding. Anyone else anemic who has had an ablation procedure???

I just had a biopsy done so I have a a couple of weeks to ponder my choices... After reading the different recovery experiences, generally they have a commonality of cramping, moodiness, some bleeding and discharge... stuff I'm trying to get rid of! Starting to cramp now... c**p! Thank you all for your help and this great resource!

Hi Meesha - I had my Novasure procedure three weeks ago yesterday. My post-op conditions are exactly like yours (so similar I swear it seems like I wrote your post). When I got my period the week after the procedure it was only noticeable one day and only when I went to the bathroom did I pass any small clots. I still have a very slight brownish discharge. Other than that, I am elated with the results so far. It's nice to see that I seem to be in the normal range among women who've had this procedure. Now I just need this discharge to stop so I can stop wearing pantiliners!
