I had the NovaSure on 08/24/12, when I woke up in recovery I had no pain, then they had me sit up and that's when it started hurting. It continued with moderate cramps that day, but next day woke up to no pain, very little bleeding. My doctor told me I could go back to work on Monday with no limitations. I do commercial cleaning, clean empty apartments to get them ready for new tenants, carrying vacuum up 5 flights of stairs, after a day and a half of work I have every muscle in a lot of pain to where I can hardly even get up from sitting, so far I would definitely recommend the surgery, just make sure if your employment is strenuous, you may want to keep it slow to start. Hope this helps!

I'm only 5 days post procedure (performed 04/19/2011). I had a Mirena IUD for five years and had just had it replaced in December and had nothing but problems. Luckily when I called to set up an appointment to have it removed my regular ob/gyn (who was a male) was out of the office and I saw a female ob/gyn, which ended up being a blessing as she had been through the same problems. When she removed the IUD she suggested I get my tubes tied if I was not going to have any more kids. I asked her about the Novasure procedure and she was honest up front with me and told me if I wanted the procedure to definitely have it done at the same time as my tubal ligation so that I would be under general anesthesia and therefore not be subjected to the pain. She didn't sugar coat it, she flat out said it hurts like he**. I actually got my period the night before my procedure and I let my new doctor know and she said it didn't matter, that it would be gone when I woke up (which it was). When I woke up from the procedure I was in pretty good amount of pain, I think mostly from the tubal ligation. They gave me a dose of morphine before I was discharged and I was given a Rx for Oxycodone (since I could not have anything with Tylenol), which I took before bed. I was uncomfortable/sore the first day after the procedure which was eased with pain medication and a heating pad, but I was able to return to work after one day of recovery. I actually  haven't taken any more pain medication since 1 day post op. I do have pink and brown discharge and there is an odor, but I just change my pad frequently and shower daily to handle it.  I knew what to expect with the discharge and odor since I had a cryo done to my cervix years ago and the discharge and smell is similar. It will go away, just be patient!

It has been 4 weeks post op and the smell is horrible. I cannot take anymore of the smell and bleeding. The doctor said he just didn't know what the problem is because he has done hundreds and never had this happen before. He put me on birth control to stop the bleeding and doxycycline incase there is an infection and that is where the smell is coming from. I feel like I'm going to go insane if it all does not stop shortly....bleeding and smelling for a month is enough to drive someone insane. At this point I wish I had never got the procedure done. I'm greatful to see someone else had a smell. I hope the tricks the doctor is trying really work for me. Good luck to all of you

Update; The ED ablation has not worked, so therefore, I am having to go in to have a complete hysteroctomy. This has been the worse 3 months.. the pain is terrible, the discharge has not stopped. I would not recommend this this procedure to anyone.. I am nerous about the hysteroctomy, but anything to get out of this horrible pain, I am willing to do anythng!!

Okay, well I'm not sure I want to have this novasure thing now. I have 3 options. 1)IUD (I refused). 2) novasure 3) hysterectomy. I'm concerned because there was someone here that said that they have fibromyalgia and the pain had been so much worse. I have the same thing and then an autoimmune disease...I'm thinking that this procedure may not be for me. I wonder how long I would have to be out of work for a hysterectomy. My sister is going to have the ablation done soon and she is sold on it. I'm not...especially after reading all these entries. It's not an emergency for me to have it, but it definitely needs to be done....Also, my doctor said that I will be under general anesthesia in his office...they bring an anesthiologist in. Not sure what to do at this point. I wonder how others are doing after so long...the posts from over a year ago...it was be interesting to know... :-|

i had mine done 4 months ago now and have never felt better!!! no periods, just a few symptoms which anyone can cope with without the heavy painful bleeding!!! funny that since this sex has been better 2, didnt think it cud but it has, seem to be a lot more sensitive!!!
anyway, go 4 it, wot have u got to lose? i think i made the right decision, and i was given option of this or hysterectomy also!!
good luck wot ever u decide :)

Hi I am 48 and had the same problems you are talking about. The ablation. was not a bad experience for me. I went in on Aug 21, 2012. 3 weeks ago and am happy with the procedure. I did not have a lot of pain when the procedure was done. Went home and after about 8 hours I did experience bad cramping through out the night took more meds and made it thru the nigh. Next day felt good no more pain well slight pain. I am glad i went through it have not had a period just decharge. Can hardley wait till that is over

i just read many posts that were from about 2-3 years ago regarding the novasure procedure. I am having this procedure done next month. I am curious to know whether 2 years post your surgery how you are feeling? How is your iron deficiency (I too have very low iron). Knowing what you know now, if you could do it all over again, woud you still have the novasure done again?

I had the Novasure ablation procedure done Monday10/1/12. I went home and rested, mostly slept ...after the procedure. I had some very mild cramping, which went away with Motrin. I returned to work the next day, feeling okay. I took some more Motrin, to ease the mild cramping. I  experienced the bloody, clearish discharge Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, I started bleeding...it's now Thursday I'm bleeding ...is this a period or did I overdue it. I hope I just overdid it a bit with work and school. I'm having the small clots, as well, like i did when I had periods prior to surgery. Wow, I certainly hope this subsides, i will be greatly dissappointed if I went through all of this procedural stuff, being put to sleep ...all for nothing. My follow up appointment is not till the 17th.
