I am 5 days post novasure procedure. I am a RN who works in labor and delivery. I really knew all the questions to ask. Was told it was any easy in office prodecure and should be able to return to work the next day. I was pre-medicated prior to procedure. It was the most horrific pain I have ever experienced. I ended up with vasovagal response which dropped my heartrate and blood pressure very low and passed out. I would recommend having the procedure under anesthesia in the hospital. I have had children without an epidural and thought I would be fine. As far as going back to work, I did take Friday off but did work Sat and Sun 12 hour shifts. I felt horrible but thought I was being a whimp. I don't think I should have been told I could work the next day. I would recommend taking a week off and letting your body recover. It is a major procedure to burn the lining of your uterus. It is too early for me to decide if it was worth it or not. Continue to have nausea, cramping and tenderness. I am still taking motrin very regularly and feel a lot of pressure in my abdomen. Hoping it will be worth it.

hi,

I too am 5 days post ablation with Novasure. The day of the procedure I too premedicated with heavy duty drugs (Ativan, Dilaudid, Motrin 800, Flexeril and a shot of Toradol. Should have been enough to knock me over, but didn't. Also a shot of Toradol in the hip. All the drugs may have mellowed me out until we got to the dilation part of the procedure. Even did the cervical block without wimping out. At 8 or so cm dilation, cramps kicked in like contractions and I delivered babies without drugs so I definately remember the contractions! The only way I can truly express how this felt was like it was the night we sufferred a miscarriage at 13 weeks and had to go tot he ER for the rest of the miscarriage or delivery or whatever that procedure was without medication. Cried like a baby and was asked if I wanted to continue or rebook to an OR to complete it with anesthesia. Looking back at it, should have gone that route. The doctor was thrilled with his "burn", took less than 75 seconds and he was quite pleased with it as well as with himself. Went home, took more drugs, went to bed and let my husband take over the rest of kids, activities, rides and supper. Woke up again at midnight, more drugs, still strong cramps, no dicharge. Still...no discharge. Saturday was a mess. Don't remember most of it. Sunday was better. Knew I had to get back to the Land of the Living because I was due back to work Monday morning. By Sunday, kids were sick of having Daddy take care of things (??) and I had to get off the couch. Took only Motrin 800s on Sunday and tried driving. Was still dizzy but am blaming the drugs. Got my act together enough to get some supper on the table, showers for kids, backpacks packed and went to bed. Monday morning came and got ready for work, dizzy, lightheaded and nauseous. Still...no discharge, still today, no discharge. Only real complaint now is smell. I asked my husband if he could smell anything. He said no, but offerred to hang a pine scented air freshner off my wrist. Other than cloudy, smelly urine I think I'll live. I keep waiting for something else to happen? Talked to the doctor yesterday who called me with the second biopsy results which were the same as the first. Anovulation. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it for now. Gonna keep waiting and hoping this works. ANYTHING has got to be better than what the past 4 months have been like.

I had the nova-sure done on monday and was supposed to be an out patient but pain was so bad I had to remain in hospital. I had a general and had a sterilisation done at the same time but the pain was not related to this. The only way that I can describe it is like it was like one long continuous labour pain but three times worse. I was writhing round on the hospital floor. They could not find a reason for this pain other than I just had a very tender abdomen. Anyway came out on the tuesday but hurt really bad. I went strait to bed when i got home and even turning over was agony. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen.Yesterday I was very tired but was able to get up but very stiff in the belly area and very minimal discharge. Today has been a lot better but after going to the supermarket my insides felt like they were going to fall out. This was worse when I stood still. I have now got chronic back ache like when I was ovulating. We shall have to wait and see if this is going to be an improvement. I did have bad bleeding but my main concern was the stomach cramps and other pains that went on nearly all the way through the month. Though I was told on the day of the procedure that this would not make any difference to the pains. So we shall see.

I had the Nova Sure done on 1-26-2011. Do you want to talk about PAIN!!! Got there an hour before the appointment, in order to take my cocktails. The Medical Assistant calls me into the room and tells me the medication never arrived. I had to run to CVS and pick up the meds. Strict 1. Pissed as hell!!! Came back got my cocktail and my shot in the butt. They placed me in the surgery room. Dr. comes in notice that i am not drowsy or ANYTHING tells me " I'm an expensive date" What ever dude. He starts the procedure i feel everything oh my GOD!!!!! Its worst then giving birth and i have 3- 9lbs boys. I'm having pinkish discharge, back pain, bad cramps that 600mg of Motrin takes care of. Now today my discharge is brighter red , i don't know if its my period or what. I hope this is worth it.

Its four weeks nearly since mine was done and I am still losing a very red discharge. I seem to have a couple of days with nothing and then, when I exercise, the next day I have a discharge again for a few days. And I am still getting very sharp pains in my stomach and can no longer stand having a full bladder. If I dont go instantly I am doubled up with pain. I really need to start seeing an improvement soon. This procedure was supposed to be a quicker recovery time and be less stressfull than having hysterectomy. I wish I had pushed for that instead.

:cry:Hi ladies, I had the novasure ablation on 2/23/2011 and so far I am not happy! Like you I was awake in the doctors office after taking various meds - it was extremely painful during the procedure and as it got close to the end I could feel the heat inside of my uterus! Afterward I felt pretty good but got pretty sick on the car ride home. I went to sleep and didn't get up until the next morning. I felt better but rested and napped most of the day. Felt great Friday and went out and did some things all weekend. That was a mistake! Monday I felt horrible again and did for most of the week while having to work. On the 10th day following I suddenly started bleeding bright red and pretty heavy and four days later I continue. I am having terrible cramps and lower back pain and my breasts are very tender. As of right now I am so sorry I did this, but it's still early so I will give it more time. As many of you said though, I wish I would have just had the hystorectomy! I wish us all better days.

i just had navasure and a tubal done on 2-17-2011 and so far it's been "ok".
I am 31, have had 5 Children, 3 miscarriages, and 5 D&C's. The surgery went very well besides being VERY tired when I went home I any can't complain. It's been a week and I'm still very tender and taking vicodin off and on for the pain. Im hoping this works for pain associated with my periods because it was horrible. I have Very heavy and painful periods that last for 5-10 days and are Never regular. (14-45 days apart) so I have tamponds everywhere.
I personally can't believe some of you had this done in the office. My dr said she would NEVER do this in the office because so Many women feel way to much pain.
I was wondering if any of you feel sick all the time (car sick feeling). I always feel dizzy and have major hot flashes since the surgery. It's driving me nuts.
I also keep getting "ovulating" cramps that hurt in my kidney area.

I want to write more but I'm trying to nurse my son and it's bedtime. I'm trying to multi-task but it not working 

I had my procedure done Jan 15, 2011, I had bleeding & dischage for about 3 weeks, at the 4 week post procedure the dr. said to rince the inside with warm water or mild vinegar douche since I noticed a slight smell that concerned me he said it was because, there was a lot of discharge and was normal. My 1st period after the procedure was 7 weeks after it was heavy , but no cramping like before the surgery, and my breast nipples were EXTREAMLY tender (I had never had this happen before) , this is my 2nd period after the procedure and it's only mild nipple tenderness, no cramping and seeming to be less bleeding than the month prior. So far my PMS moods are not bad at all but, I am still having horrific menstral migraines! Anyhow, I hope periods completely stop but, if they don't I'm much happier with this procedure! I used to get severe cramps that kept me from a normal life, atleast 2-6 days a month I couldn't get out of bed I was in so much pain and I had AWFUL moods I didn't even like myself! Even, if I do have some bleeding I'm not in pain and in a great mood so it was worth it to me!

I'm only 5 days post procedure (performed 04/19/2011). I had a Mirena IUD for five years and had just had it replaced in December and had nothing but problems. Luckily when I called to set up an appointment to have it removed my regular ob/gyn (who was a male) was out of the office and I saw a female ob/gyn, which ended up being a blessing as she had been through the same problems. When she removed the IUD she suggested I get my tubes tied if I was not going to have any more kids. I asked her about the Novasure procedure and she was honest up front with me and told me if I wanted the procedure to definitely have it done at the same time as my tubal ligation so that I would be under general anesthesia and therefore not be subjected to the pain. She didn't sugar coat it, she flat out said it hurts like he**. I actually got my period the night before my procedure and I let my new doctor know and she said it didn't matter, that it would be gone when I woke up (which it was). When I woke up from the procedure I was in pretty good amount of pain, I think mostly from the tubal ligation. They gave me a dose of morphine before I was discharged and I was given a Rx for Oxycodone (since I could not have anything with Tylenol), which I took before bed. I was uncomfortable/sore the first day after the procedure which was eased with pain medication and a heating pad, but I was able to return to work after one day of recovery. I actually  haven't taken any more pain medication since 1 day post op. I do have pink and brown discharge and there is an odor, but I just change my pad frequently and shower daily to handle it.  I knew what to expect with the discharge and odor since I had a cryo done to my cervix years ago and the discharge and smell is similar. It will go away, just be patient!

I am 1 week and 4 days post-procedure.  I have the yellowish/brownish discharge that is somewhat smelly.  I just keep changing my pantiliner and using flushable wipe to keep things clean.  I have had some pinkish spotting here and there, but not a lot. I had several bad twinges of pain last week but those seem to have subsided.  One odd thing for me is that I have had VERY loose bowels since this procedure, and now I have very tender breasts.  Can't explain the bowels thing, but maybe the breast issue is due to the hormones???  I still feel like I have a bloated gut, and am afraid to go to the gym and attempt situps.  All the sited say sex is OK after 2 weeks, so why not the gym?

I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and still have bad cramps and bleeding ranging from medium to spotting and back, but it has been constant and mostly red.  Went back to the doctor today regarding the cramps and all he could say was "not my fault, I didn't do anything wrong, it all went well, nobody has ever come in before and complained about pain".  He did give me some antibiotics "just in case".  Glad I found this site as I came away none the wiser after seeing him and slightly concerned about his immediate jump to the defensive and no reassurance about when I might expect an improvement or that this appears to be a common thing for some people.  Not at all impresssed that it is sold as an easy fix with one or two days of spotting as the ONLY side effect when its clearly not the case.  Wish I had done a bit of research about recovery prior to the operation as I have used all my sick days up on the flu and now wasting holiday leave on the days when the cramps are too bad to deal with going to work.  I'm sick of feeling crappy and feeling grubby using pads when not at work even though I shower twice a day anyway.  My stomach and lower back have a constant dull ache that flares up to severe pain for days at a time then dulls down again.  Bleeding is heavier when the pain flares.  Its like having a non stop period except I'm moodier, grumpier and having more cramps.  Only thing missing is the clots and really heavy bleeding (and it would only have lasted up to 10 days).  I've had my gripe, now back to the couch and the comfort food!

I had my ablation/tubes tied 5/25/11.   Recovery was not bad at all except for 2 unusual side effects  One was that both sides of the back of my tongue were/are very painful.  Freaked kids out when I screamed out (lol) after making mistake of drinking orange juice- it was like pouring acid on it.   When I went back for visit with GYN today early for my post-op visit, she said the anestheist must have "scraped" my toungue when he was putting the tube down my throat.  Also, I developed a UTI 2 days ago(due to catheter).  Now feel like I have been run over by a mack truck plus lots more pain than a UTI normally causes.  Wondering... was it new hiree training day for  the people who are in charge of sticking things inside you in the OR?

If you don't have to, I wouldn't schedule an "early" post-op visit  with your gyn.  I had been lying down for the last few days, and sitting in the chair today waiting in the doctor's office  caused my whole perineal region to ache.

I figured out there must be a hormonal side effect last night when I found myself deep in irrationality, lol, sobbing because I had made a decision (cue dramatic music) to "end a stage in my life...I decided to make myself into an old woman, used up, wahhhh!"  Forgot that I very definately at age 45 with 2 teens, did not/ do not want another baby.

Further highlights:  my 16 year old had to drive me to the gyn because I felt so bad.  In the waiting room, along with the usual 20 or so adorable pregnant young couples waiting for the 1st ultrasound, were my daughter's drivers education teacher, a girl she knew from school, and a local celebrity TV newscaster famous for her courageous decision to be very open with her battle against her own breast cancer, and the newscaster' 16 year old she was bringing in for that important yearly gyn check-up.  My daughter whispered to me...what were you supposed to do when you saw people you knew at your gyn, it was a weird situation....   Meanwhile my hormones decided it would be fun to kick in and so I was the beshelved (hadn't done so well with hair/make-up/wrinkled clothes that day) sobbing older woman in the chair in the corner receiving the warm sympathetic smiles from other patients.

Then, while giving urine sample, accidentally slung (!) tee-tee drops everywhere.  Unfortuneately, the AZO I was taking for the UTI, had caused my urine to turn bright florescent orange.  Yeah.   Couldn't bend over and very weak, but managed to  contort body around enough, strategically using paper towel under shoe technique, to wipe floor.   But in case you wondered, that stuff permanently stains a white sink and will Not wash off your hands.   Finally emerged from restroom to find nurse right outside the door waiting.  I bet she wondered what in the world I was doing, banging around for forever and whispering curse words to myself.  At least the drivers ed teacher, my daughter's friend, or the famous celebrity were not waiting to use the restroom and its now florescent orange sink.  :)

I had it done on 06/17/2011. I was in recovery for 2 hours and went home. I got super nauseated on the ride home and the nausea continued throughout the day. The cramping they said you would experience was an understatement, but there was my pre op nurse who told me that it would hurt bad, but I could handle it. She was right, after 8 hours the cramping dulled and I had made it through. The next day was almost back to normal with a nap and heating pad added in. I had about 3 days of light leakage and only used a pantyliner, then nothing until yesterday when a watery brownish discharge came racing down between my legs, not a lot (not really) but it was freaky. The Doctor (nurse) said this was normal and think of it as a burn on your arm and how long that takes to heal. Yesterday would have been the time for my period to start so I wonder, should I abstain from sex or anything while my body is trying to have a period but isn't? Will I have something else come racing out of me like yesterday but maybe at a not so convenient time like when I'm home? I've read tons on what happens right after, but can't find anything on what goes on in the months after.

All in all though, besides the one day of super cramps, I'm pleased with the results and would recommend it to anyone else with heavy bleeding.

Hello! I am 43 years old, full blown menopausal, for approximately 2 years now. I have severe bleeding and cramping with my periods, the further into menopause I get, the worse they are! They said this could last up to 10 years! I can't handle that thought! Is this something you would reccommend or not? I don't want a hysterectomy! Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!
