Hello. I'm 29 year old female. Recently, during some routine gynecological examination, some malignant tumor was found on my uterus. Doctor told me that I was very lucky because tumor is found in his early stadium and that’s why he didn’t spread on other organs.
Still, my uterus and my ovaries should be removed as quickly as possible in one procedure called Total Hysterectomy.
So, I was wondering, beside the threat of infection and possible pain I will experience after, will I be able to enjoy in sex like I did before the operation. What is sex like after a total hysterectomy?
I think that, when woman loses hers genitals organs, it’s a big waste and big handicap in future because she will not be able to have children any more.
So, I really want to help you. I have talked about this with the friend of mine who is doctor and he told me that, in most women, sex drive is still the same if not only stronger.
Of course, there is a big possibility that removal of the uterus and ovaries could cause large declines in sex hormones but somehow this does not cause sex drive decreasing. I'm not talking here about physical sensation. Removal of the cervix may result in a change in the physical sensation during intercourse but use of some lubricants and often improves this.
Regarding sex... the drive is probably still the same, let that be your emotional basis.. but caution.. the uterus is a very large muscle that contracts to deliver a baby and to have an orgasm.. that contraction will be missing.
CAUTION be sure you have tried alternative therapies first, there are always side effects to surgery and sometimes severe... My advise is to try any conventional alternative first and also alternative medicine solutions consult with nathropaths, energy healers, homeopathic methods if you possibly can first. I had my hysterectomy 4 years ago, I looked at orthodoc alternative and none were appropriate for my large fibroids, however since then I have learned the some forms of energy healing and herbals really may have allowed me to keep my uterus... What ever you decide if you can keep as much of your self as possible especially all or part of your ovaries to help your body balance the many hormones a woman needs (not just estrogen). I have suffered from hormone inbalance more than the suffering I had from my fibroids. Do your research first. Best wishes to you.

As a woman who has had a total hysterectomy I can assure you that there has been an improvement in not only my sex drive but the intensity of my orgasms. However it took many trips to my doctor to get the correct dosage and form of hormone replacement. I don't need any vaginal lubricants either. Talk with your doctor about the different types of hormone replacement. Personally I am using what is called a Femring and a topical cream which has testosterone and DHEA in it. It works for me. I had to do this as I had an allergic reaction to Vaginal and topical creams that had Estrogen in them. Good luck in find what works for you.
XD I had my uterus removed 12 years ago because of a cancerous tumor. I am almost 61 years old. Sex is the best. I have big wet orgasisms. My hubby is getting tired pleasing me...never give up.
I would consider other options before surgery because you are going to sign a consent form that allows doctors to severe vital nerves which intern can make you end up with inability to orgasm after the surgery. I have been researching the affects of post surgical hysterectomies and I AM NEVER going to get one!! See what other alternatives you can find for your own well being or visit hers.org >:(
I am now 28 years old and I was 26 when I had to undergo a total hysterectomy. I had an awesome sex life with my husband before it. I an just starting to get into the bio identical hormones and they are starting to do some good. I can remember the pain I was in from endometriosis but I would take that pain back compared to what I have been thru the past year and a half. I am not trying to scare you just get several opinions. I wish I would have. You might be suprised what another doctor can do for you and how some are so easy to give you a quik fix.
I had tryed all the drugs/coils etc worked short term but never helped with large fibroid growing through the womb wall and muscle and distorting the womb, pain/clots terrible time no life.
I am 39 had a total hysterectomy 2 weeks ago, they left my ovaries, i am like a rampant rabbit my sex drive has gone through the roof, i feel all sensations down there and in nipples etc so they havent damaged my vital nerves, i think it also depends on your state of mind, i dont have the tearyness/depression i couldnt wait to get rid of mine ive had no life for years and the passed 6 months have been hell, and by the way i have orgasms in my sleep at the moment because i cant have sex for another 4 weeks until i get the all clear.
So there is hope after a hysterectomy.

I am 46yrs and I had a total LAVH 2wks. ago as well and the same thing... high sex drive lately. I too had an orgasm in my sleep. I was worried i would injury the surgical site. I still have bleeding- scant light pink. I seem to be so aroused lately. Can't wait for the clearance in 4wks.!!! They ( the surgeons) sure don't tell u this. Thank-u for your post! ;-)
I am sorry but I can't agree with everyone. My wife went in the opposite direction. Before the surgery she always came to me looking for sex daily. After the surgery I was lucky if I was able to get her to think about sex. She is now 46 and her surgery was at 39. I am 39 months without sex and you bet I try alot. I look at it like this if you have a tumor and this is the reason for the surgery it is a no brainer if you want to live.
My wife had a total hysterectomy 17 years ago. Her libido just went away and she stopped enjoying sex. In the past several years she has had pain during intercourse. Now she does not even want any intimate touching.
Great to those that are still sexually active. My wife had a total hysterectomy 5 years ago. No sex drive and no sex for me. I'll live, but we had a great sex life before that. YMMV. Good luck
Is a woman "deeper" after a total hysterectomy?
I am currently 29 and going in for a total hysterectomy in a month. I have been in so much pain that I am happy to be going in to finally have it done. As far as a woman being "deeper" after, the removal of the uterus and cervix can actually shorten the vagina which can sometimes cause pain afterwards.
It has been a month today since my total hysterectomy. I had some pain afterwards. A week out of surgery I was playing the wii don't recommend that my doctor made my husband unhook it and put it upstairs so i couldn't get to it. I've had one complication. When my staples came out there was a spot that came open. Well the steery stips were put in place and did what they were suppose to do. Which is hold the tear together. I ended up with an infection. I can say on New Years I couldn't wait anymore I had to have sex and it felt great. My doctor will probable kill me when she sees me in a couple of days. But, I have had no pain. Thank God!! I feel pretty good. I am 38 and I was done having kids. I had 3cm fibroids all in my uterus and it ended up being a 3hr surgery because of my endometriosis. She said it was the worst she had seen. Nothing was cancerous and to tell you the truth that didn't even cross my mind. Hope yours is good as mine. And no problem with orgasms.
