Hey everyone. You might think that I am crazy a little bit, but since I am here with you for a pretty much long time, I can't consider you as my friends and my family and I can tell you whatever I can. At least, I think so. I found out that my great grandmother had tetralogy of fallot. I don't know how they find out this in that times, but she had it. Now, I was reading about it and I find out that this can be hereditary. Is this true? Can you explain me a little bit what is Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) and is it hereditary?

Hey Couch. Everything is fine, sometimes I think that I am crazy as well but I really do consider all of you as my friends. Tetralogy of Fallot is actually a very rare condition caused by a combination of four heart defects that are present at birth. These defects, which usually affect the structure of the heart, cause oxygen-poor blood to flow out of the heart and to the rest of the body. About your other part of the question, I don’t think that it is hereditary. At least I hope so. I haven’t heard this before. This is the first time that I hear that this issue can be hereditary.

Hey there.

Thank you it feels much better to know that I am not the only one who is "crazy" lol. Well, sometimes I am asking myself how did they even find out that my great grandmother had this diagnose when that was a long time ago, but then - I started to think like this; if they find out it that late, in those ages I suppose that they did know what they are doing. And after that when I read that this could be hereditary I got really scared. How to recognize this issue? What are the symptoms? Thank you.

Hello there. I have the same diagnose like your great grandmother had. I am still wondering how is possible that they knew this diagnose back then.
But I have to disagree with some posts because it can be as well. Usually it depends on variables and most of the cases of complex continental heart disease can happen is a sporadic manner. The general risk of having it is about 6 % but that doesn’t mean that you can’t get it. Because you can. In some families, there are genetic factors that affect the development of various conotruncal heart defects, which includes tetralogy of fallot. Have a nice day.

Hey guys. Well, it is not a topic to discuss how they find out that your great grandmother had this issue, right? So I think that we should leave it aside and concentrate to other problems - what this disease is and is it hereditary. I won't repeat what this is, because MakeMeCoffee explained it to you. About your other question, is it hereditary - I will say that it is. I know two different cases that showed this. So basically, the chances can be small (I didn't even know that they are 6 percent) but as you can see it is.
