Hi, folks. My nephew had some problems with hip pain. After some tests, he was diagnosed with the Perthes disease. I have never heard about this disease before, so I have a lot of uncertainties. I would like to know something more about the prognosis of this disease. Thank you in advance.
Hi to you too. I think that prognosis is good. After few years, femoral head remodels. It all turns back to normal. Hip is all right and kid does not limp anymore. For this, it can take two years or even more. Of course, in some cases femoral head does not remodel properly. In this case, the deformity remains and there is permanent stiffness. Premature arthritis is also possible. I hope this helps. Bye!

Hello, everyone. I have also the similar opinion as the previous post. If the disease appears earlier, the greater the chances are for normal remodeling. If this disease appears after the ear of 8, then there are more risks for developing some form of deformity. Boys also have better outcome than the girls. Maybe this is caused by fact that girls finish growing earlier than boys. If the case is more severe, then there are greater chances for deformity. The range of severity is measured by an X-ray image. I hope I’ve helped. Good luck!
