I'm 44 years old and get one of these every six months or so. I hate them. Found this thread and decided to try the sterilized tiny nail scissor tip. I really don't understand how the pain instantly goes from a 10 to a 1.5, but it did. No bleeding either and any pain from the snip is way less than the bump pressing against your teeth all day. How have I never known about this?

To be honest I just cut off. My braces are sharp enough to cut them off but it feels so much better

Doesn't really bleed much. I cut them off with scissors. Bleeds for about a minute then stops and I have no problem from then on.

Wait did you say that taste buds won't grow back? They actually will.

I use the scissors in one of those small Swiss Army knives by Victorinox. The kind that fits on your keychain. It's an excellent small precision tool for cutting them off. It stings for a second, but once cut off the pain is gone. I usually get them in a spot where my tongue rubs up against my sharp teeth. Make sure you cut off all the white part at once, but try not to cut much/any past that. They seem to grow back.

I get the "basic" swiss army knife in the hunting and camping section of target for $10.99. But it's available on Amazon for like $15.

Honestly, I cut mine off just a few minutes with some nail clippers, and it hurt a bit more than I expected, and bled more than I expected... Then I started seeing spots and almost passed out. I'm not weird about blood or anything, I'm covered in tattoos and have some racy piercings. I think its because mine wasn't ready to come off, it wasn't as white as it should have been. I pretty much just ripped off a newly swollen taste buds... But it was worth it after a few minutes, feels SOOO much better.

Absolutely! I've sanitized nail clippers with peroxide. Let it dry. Wiggle the corner pint down in the tongue a bit to kind of heap the taste but from the base. Then clip that sucker off. It bleeds, looks like a lot since it's mixed with saliva . But it heals up in minuites. I swear it's the quickest fix. But I only clip them if they're painful or white.

I have had them since I was a young child every so often. I cut them off with nail clippers too. It's really the only way to go. It doesn't hurt and once they're cut off they are 100% better and don't grow back. One of my best friends is a general practitioner and I asked her about it. She said they are perfectly safe to cut off. The tissue will grow back no biggie.

Avoid those things listed above to protect your taste buds.
Fortunately, damaged taste buds can heal, so your sense of taste is not totally lost. If you experience continued irritation of your taste buds, contact your doctor.

Infection from cutting them off is highly unlikely with sterilized tools. I bite them off when they become inflamed. They bleed a little but they heal very quickly. The pain from getting rid of them is much more manageable than letting it stay. It's your tongue so handle the situation the best way that you see fit.
