The Norman center in Tampa does not recommend it - I am going by my recollection of what I read on their site - Biopsies can cause damage and scar tissue which can lead to complications during surgery - perhaps involving the vocal chords. Not good!

I would NEVER recommend UTSW!! I was led down the wrong path there for 3 years, off and on, and they NEVER got it! My blood calcium had been elevated at various times b4 I transferred into the UTSW system. Tests showed it, along with my PTH to be all over the charts "inappropriate normal", especially the PTH all over the place. Since they do not know wth they are doing, it was not even a red flag to look into! When the Mineral Metabolism department (which you mention) found loads of HIGH CALCIUM IN MY 24hr URINE, the doc in that department just wanted to put me on a water pill; aka HCZT (triamterene). This place is a school, and the equivalent of a beauty college imo. They are not out-of-the-box thinkers at all. Their doctors have NO friggin' clue what they are doing or saying! (They are basically still in training, and big pharma runs it, believe me!) Don't waste your time OR money dealing with these idiots! You will just continue to become sicker and sicker over time. They will NOT listen to you!

I had parathyroid surgery by Dr J Norman of Tampa, Fla. He was unable to find my 4th parathyroid gland at all! AND although he did find one parathyroid tumor, he was unable to remove it.

What was the consultation fee required from Dr. Norman ?

I read that Dr. Norman and other doctors do surgeries on patients who have had "failed" surgeries. I am very interested in him, but reluctant at the consult fee not covered by insurance .

Recently reading all I can find. He and his team Sound great. My husband thinks his consult fee is too much and it is not covered by insurance, but I want the best mini surgery IF I in fact have to have the surgery. My calcium levels have been 10.4, 10.8 and 11.3 and I have nearly all the symptoms on that site! Watch the video if you can. What tests did the endocrinologist do? I tried to go straight to a surgeon, but my GP doc insists I have to see an endocrinologist first.

I am in the same situation. Did you find any help?

Dr. Norman is the best in the world. It is hugely important however that you go to him for your first and don't trust other surgeons like I did who profess to be the best and know little. I am a product of 2 failed surgeries in Seattle and in Scottsdale and now have little chance of a successful surgery. I go to see Dr. Norman yearly and am hopeful but don't take chances. I lost my voice and had to have voice therapy for months. I also had my right thyroid removed for no reason and thousands of dollars worth of unnecessary testing done by a surgeon who should never have done the 2nd surgery based on what I now know. So, don't take chances. Most insurance will cover Dr. Norman and his fees are low. He is the best! I don't want anyone to go through what I am going thru now.

I'M looking for the best parathyroid surgeon in Dayton, Ohio. I've heard a lot of good outcomes and some bad. I'm scheduled to have surgery soon, but I'm thinking of canceling, because he didn't explain a DAMN thing to me at all. These doctors are something else these days. They think that some of us are so nieve, that we would let them cut on us without any questions. I need HELP!

Did you find anyone in Dayton? Columbus has some, we're looking too.

If you find anyone in Dayton or Columbus worth a darn please post. I haven't found anyone in Dayton. An internet search came up with Grant Medical Center in Columbus (part of Ohio Health Network) as having a parathyroid surgery department but when I called Grant none of the operators could find a listing for them. Tried Wexnar (Ohio State) but could not find if any of the doctors specialized in minimally invasive surgery. Just got 'glittering generalities' and gave up after 4 calls. And the doctor Farrar at the beginning of this thread specializes in women's cancer treatment. :-(
