When I started running about 1 mile in I would have these horrendous front shin muscle pains on my right shin. To the point where I had to stop and walk off the incredible tightness and pain. I've been running seriously now for about 8 months and the pain isn't there anymore (right shin muscle). What would be the reason? It's awesome now since I can run longer without this mysterious pain I used to have. Is it just that the muscle has been "broken" in?
Quite possibly it's something like that!
Our bodies are amazing things, and sometimes it just takes working the kinks out!
In general, if something hurts for 2-3 days, it's time to take a day off. At least that's the conventional wisdom from all the running gurus.
But most of us have to admit that we have run many, many days in a row with something hurting! It really just takes running for a long time, and we get to figure out what is a "pain" or a "hurt," and what is truly an "injury" that we have to stop for.
Sounds like you've strengthened your leg to the point that you're able to run now.
Anyway, congrats on running pain free!
