I'm a 20 year old man attending college. I'm a non-smoker, however, I do chew tobacco on and off for almost 2.5 years. In december of 2007 i got a bad cough and sickness that drove me nuts. It never really went away. I'v had this tickle in my throat for almost 2 months now, and around my front of my next all the way around to the back of my neck is extremely tight and irritating. It drives me insane. My lymph nodes have been swollen for 4 weeks or so. And this cough won't go away. I've been to the doctors twice and they tell me i dont have signs of throat cancer, it might possibly be a bronchitis which is viral and usually last for 4 weeks after the infection. I got a zpack in January and my sinuses went away. However, im' starting to get yellow mucus again and cough it still persistent. I do drink thursday through saturday quite excessively as some college students do. I'm just wondering if anyone thinks i have anything to worry about...
Most likely when you went to the doctor he did a throat swab. This swab wound immediately indicate if you have strep throat ("rapid strep") and after about 5 days would indicate if their was any bacteria in your throat that would be a sign of infection.

Since you have had this for so long additional testing may be warranted. You should call your Primary Care doctor and make an appointment.
