You talked me into having my hem surgery on April 7, 2016. I was very afraid of the pain. I had ACL knee surgery and that was very painful with 3 months of physicial therapy after to open up my leg again. It was locked. Thank you..

Hi all, I had a hemorrihoidectomy yesterday. Everything was FINE. I wanted to write a short note based on my experience because I basically put it off for two years due to reading horror stories (there are some happy endings out there guys).
Anyway, the night beforehand I fasted (water only) and had some bowl cleansing meds from the doc.
Had the op at 9 then next morning (was put to sleep) and awake with no pain (drugged) by 10.20. I could pretty much straight away and drank lots of fluids, I could move about and pee independently (very little pain). This morning I had the dreaded bowl movement and.... It was fine! Just spent the afternoon shopping.
So to those who are putting it off, don't. Just find a really good doc. I wish you all luck!

Hi I have to agree with this poster - don't listen to the negatives. I've had a hemmohridectomy (the surgeon cut them out, no staples or banding) last week. I was bracing myself for DEATH after reading some of the posts here but i felt no pain during the op and very bearable pain once the drugs wore off (like I'd been kicked in the ass and not very hard). I'm a week done and although pooping is a little painful and causes bleeding it is totally tolerable. I've only taken two days off work - and I chose to take those as a "just in case this gets really horrible" type of thing.

Go for it I say.
I'm female, 36 and in decent health.
Doc also removed a large polyp while he did the hemmorhoids

YES!

I'm about 3 weeks post op.

I had 4 huge "impressive" as my surgeon called them externals that were more like old hemms/tags. Every great once in a while one would flare up, nothing major but it would swell and feel bruised.

I also had 3 very large internal grade 4 internals.

I would absolutely do it again.

After the anesthesia fully wore off it hurt a bit mainly due to the location. If you know this going into it, it's not as bad as being totally surprised lol

Epsom baths actually helped more then the Oxys, like made the pain go away. So believe that you will be submerged in water several times a day haha

My husband got me a portable bidet from Amazon for around $50 that totally saved me! Search luxe bidet.

I soaked baby diapers and put them in the freezer as they really really Help, dont leak, and stay frozen for hours haha

The worst was beyond me after day 3 however with the oxys i mostly slept through those 3 days anyway lol

I was bleeding rectally for about 18 years, daily which caused severe anemia eventually and required infusions.

I'd do the surgery again tomorrow

You will get much needed rest believe it or not so long as you have support!

Please please do it!

Forget about the horror stories. I'm a HUGE baby, -and it was cake.

I didn't have some lucky situation, my surgeon said my hemms in and out were extrensive and worse then she's ever seen, she prepped me for a pretty painful recovery and I made it!

And I have a very low pain threshold. Scream for drugs during labor hahahaha

I'm a female. 35 with 3 kids.

I also found dermoplast pain relieving numbing spray (they use for childbirth episiotomies too!) very helpful.

It's over the counter in a blue spray bottle.

You won't feel anything during the procedure obviously...and the pain came on slowly for me as the anestesia wore off...so it wasn't like BAM death as the Internet would have you think!

Just be sure to stay in front of the pain with your meds...take them on time even if you feel ok, especially the first 3 days.

Limit movement as much as you can.

It's really not a big deal. If this is truly the worst surgery recovery wise, then I know I can handle anything going forward!

I have a new bum and LOVE it!

No more trouble wiping! No bleeding!

I wish I did it sooner!!!!!

Be sure to advocate among your family/friends...people are scared and it helps to open a dialog!!!

Best wishes!!!

I'm waiting for a date. For a hemeroidectomy after prolapsed hemorroids that burst and had me off work for three weeks but the thought of a operation fills me with dread to the point that I'm considering Tustin living with it

I'm 45 years old and just had the surgery at it was the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. I had my surgery two weeks ago and still can't walk. I've lost sleep from all of the pain pills and still can't control the pain or bleeding. I scream when I use the bathroom as it feels as if I'm giving birth to a child over and over again. I never thought I would suffer like this.

Hi folks. 46 y/o male here who had the surgery 11 days ago. Had 3 exterior hemorrhoids that I'd had for 10+ years that I wanted taken care of. I did quite a bit of reading about this surgery prior to having it done, and was so nervous right up until I went under anesthesia. I prepared myself to be in excruciating pain for 5-10 days and hoped for the best. I must say, the surgery was quick and painless and I was pleasantly surprised at the level of pain I was in the first couple nights. I'd say the first night I was about a 5-6, but I was drugged up pretty good. Staying ahead of the pain is def important! Another important thing to note is I wasn't in constant pain all day. It would subside and I would feel pretty good at times. The first night I could not pee and had to go to ER for a catheter. That didn't help but it wasnt as bad as I had anticipated. It was more annoying than anything. Overall, the first 5 days went remarkably well for me. I stayed between a 3-5 on the pain threshold. The excruciating pain never happened. I stayed on the pain meds for around 7 days, took lots of sitz baths, and tried to keep my diet simple so I would not have bad bowel movements. After day 7, I stopped the daily meds and only took them as needed, that might have been a little soon because the last 4 days have been painful after bowel movements. As of last few days, my evening have typically been pain free. Next morning after I get up and have breakfast, I then have to have a BM. That's where the tough pain comes. My anus throbs and I get a sharp pain in my right buttock and down my leg, and my groin throbs. Having the BM is not painful, but it sets off a nerve somewhere and takes a bit to calm it down. I'm hoping this will ease up in time. I am taking two colace at night and miralax in the morning, along with high fiber foods. The act of a BM has never hurt much at all, just the pain after. If you are contemplating this surgery, here are gas that I have felt has helped me with recovery. Pain meds. Take them every 6 hours like clock work. Rest. Get plenty. Water. Drink lots! Items to have BEFORE surgery. Sits bath - a must! Get at CVS, Wal Greens, Wal-Mart, Amazon. Baby wipes - they are alcohol free. No toilet paper. Adult diapers for leakage. Yes there will be leakage. Get over having to wear a diaper. It's temporary and if you have an unexpected bowel movement, you will be safe. Donut seat. Another life, butt, saver. I got two. One for car one for home. They do help. Netflixx or good books to read. You need something to help pass the time. Patience. It's day 11 and I feel like I should be fully recovered, but it's not reality. My stitches are still there and I still have pain, some bleeding and leakage, but I am looking forward to being fully recovered and NOT having to deal with hemorrhoids. Good luck to anyone considering this surgery or who is scheduled to have it done.

Well I've suffered from hemorroids since I was 14(I'm 31 now). I finally had the surgery done 5 days ago. The day of the operation and the following day were not to bad because of the local anesthetic. Days three and four were painful, but not near as bad as every horror story I read. I kept up on my pills and have drank lots of water for my BM. The BMs were rough but I just hopped into a tub afterward with warm water and that helped alot. I had two external hemorroids with blood clots in them and internal hemorroids as well. If I didn't have the external ones and cuts on the outside of my corn hole I would be doing really good. If these"friends" don't come back for 5-10 years I would probably do it again. I get terrible hemorroids once or twice a year and hated planning to have them no matter what I was doing. I'm sure I will still be nervous for a year or two. I say if your thinking about doing the surgery then git r done.

Hello,

I am scheduled to have Hemorrhoidectomy in one month. I've had hemorrhoids for about half my life. I'm a 30 y/o female, in good health with no current medical complications. I do not plan to birth children (I will adopt eventually). I have a grade 4 and grade 3 internal/external hemorrhoids. They do not cause me pain, but I have to be careful going to the bathroom and it takes me a while to clean properly. Often times, if I have a BM at work or outside the home, I have to leave a piece of toilet paper there so as to "catch" any remaining fecal matter. This is even after wiping and cleaning. I'm not in pain but I'm tired of doing this and I'm at a point where I have insurance and can take the time off work. Would any of you recommend that I go ahead with the surgery? After reading comments and experiences across the internet, the pain and process of recovery is very scary. However, I don't want to go on like this for the rest of my life.
