I have this huge yellow spot located on the outer left corner of my left eyes, that I am serious about getting it removed. I did some research and found that this was called a pinguecula. I went to my eye doctor and he only told me that it was normal and that if it's not bother than I'm better off leaving it. However each year it was been growing bigger and bigger, it has already grown to touch my iris and later taking over my eye ball?!? I am indeed worried and I want to get rid of it asap! So far dr. Gulani seem to be the most recommended. Sadly as a 22 year old student I don't think I have to money to travel. I am currently in canada, vancouver so if anyone out there that has the same problem removed in canada(preferring vancouver) or know any well known eye doc please give me a shout out!!!

I was 22 when I was diagnosed with a pinguecula.  I am now 23, and am one month post-op.  Don't despair.  The generic opth. I went and saw initially also told me not to have surgery.  I saw my GP and he also advised against it.  I was distressed, so I did some research and found a doc with ample experience in ping removal.  I am in the US, but I would do some research and call offices.  My insurance even paid for my surgery at 90% coverage.  There are many more doctors performing this surgery than you might think -- probably even in your area.  Just make sure the doctor is experienced and uses the glue/graft technique.  I'm a mom and graduated from college six months ago -- you can find a way!  Oh, and my doc was not impressed by Dr. G in FL.  She said that his "articles" are published in no-name journals and that she had never heard of him prior to my mention of him.  I wouldn't fly to FL for his surgery.  She also said his claim to fame -- white eye next day -- is bogus.  Even if you have the amniotic graft instead of autograft, blood vessels still have to grow into the tissue, and redness is inevitable (and healthy!!) during the healing process.  My eye looked pretty good the first day after surgery -- only to turn bright red before going back to clear.  My surgery was done in CO.

I am 27 and I was diagnosed just a month ago. No doctors where I live advise it. I've been talking to Dr. Gualni in Florida, but his surgery is $5K per ping plus $2-3K for anesthesia and $250+ per office visit so total it's over $13K. I'm on a high deductable plan and my insurance doesn't cover it. What insurance are you on? Dr. Gulani said mine was cosmetic. How bad are yours? Do you have pictures?  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
