I am a male, and I have had these symptons for almost 10 years and been to the doctor probably 10-15 times to take a look at.

Skip to bottom of post if you need my two cents I just realised alot of this might be irrelevant.

Basically when it starts it feels like it my a-hole is pulsating a little bit, then starts to get itchy. Sometimes I can ignore this and it goes away, usually not though. When I itch it I really have to go to town, until I know it is probably getting raw down there but I have to get rid of the itch. When I am itching it there are certain areas both inside my bottom and around the outside which need to be scratched more to alleviate the uncomfortable itch. I can usually last an entire day without really having to ease the discomfort, but when I get home from work and there is a slight itch, I start and then really scratch it hard, too hard.

It is always there, sometimes more than not, but mostly it is an issue which is so f@#$en annoying. It makes me wonder if it will ever go away and how I can deal with it for the rest of my life. The doctor has said I wil probably have to live with it which sucks. It is just such an embarrassing problem that you can't really talk about (asthma or something is something I could tell my mates, not really an itchy anus though).

When I first went to the doctor he thought it was some form of haemoroids, so gave me some suppositories (proctosedyl i think). They were horrible-I had to endure both sticking something up my bum and it still being itchy, of course not scratching it because I thought it was doing its thing.

After a while I had to go back to the doc, who said it was fissures i think- he gave me pimafucort which works really well at easing the discomfort but it never "repairs" the problem, just have to keep on getting more. I never have a repeat prescription (unorganised) so usually I have to go back to the doc for him to prescribe some more. Alot of the time if it is a different doctor they will disregard me telling them that I need pimafucort and diagnose just what they see, then offer their advice - Condescending when you get told to dry your bum after shower or wipe properly or wear clean underpants or use non fragrant toilet paper etc etc etc the tenth time!!!!

Pimafucort is the best in my opinion, I tried jock itch cream when I couldnt get a prescription for pimafucort (when I began to suspect i was fungal), that was ok but nothing compared to pimafucort - i think its the hydrocortisone in it?

From someone who has had to manage the problem for years, try this.

Metamucil or high fibre food - Makes your poo hard, meaning less wiping, less irritation.
Pimafucort - Stops the itching giving it time to repair - try to get lots of it after seeing doctor.
Buy good cotton underwear - Polyester gets sweaty and its uncomfortable if you have to itch through them.

PINWORMS MAKE ITCHING WORSE AT NIGHT!!!

I have the same problem from time to time. During the day it's is almost unnoticeable. Yet at night I often wake up and cant go back to sleep due to the unbearable itching. I just figured it was a yeast infection. What feeds yeast? Sugar and processed foods. I cut back on all sugar for several days, and low and behold the itching went away. I experimented a few days ago and drank about four sodas and ate out at mcdonalds for two days straight. The next night i was up for several hours itching. I didnt have much sugar the next few days and the itching was sent back to hell. Hope this helped someone.

Right. I've got this too: annoying low-grade itching around anus and across the perineum. I was told that it was a yeast infection and to stop eating foods with white flour and sugar. And I do notice a correlation: when I eat more of these things, the itching increases. When I resist eating these things, the itching lessens.

I had this problem after I developed a hemmorrhoid... I tried the hydrocortizone, and several other creams and ointments. What worked for me is soaking in a oatmeal bath to stop the itching. Then before I went to bed I took a benadryl caplet. This helped tremendously since I was also scratching my itch when I was asleep. After doing this for two nights the itching stopped but it then was sore. So I applied neosporin cream with pain relief. The bumps have gone away but whenever I feel a bump start to come back and itch I soak in the oatmeal bath as soon as I can. Also I no longer sleep with underwear on.

Hey there.  I have been suffering with these same symptoms for 8 months now...thought I would go crazy!!  Could not sit down at all for a bit.   Doctor prescribed some creams, nothing worked.  Been researching myself for a while now with no luck...until about a month ago.  Research high acid diets and what you need to counter the crappy diet most of us have.  Creams and pills will only slow the problem for a bit but it will always return if you keep the same diet.  There are a lot of books and audio programs on the effects of diet.  My diet has been brutal due to overworking and ease of fast food.  It sounds extreme but I am now a practicing vegitarian(never thought I would say those words!!!! I love my burgers!).  Check out the books skinny b***h(or bastard if male like me) or the  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***  Both talk about how we do not need dairy, meat or other contaminents in the body.  Made sense to me right away as poor diets can grow nasty things in the blood stream such as candida which is a fancy word for a yeast infection.  You should do a cleanse and then start with a better diet.  One of the best things to pick up are greens which you can get from any nutrition store.  They are a powder you add to water to alkalize the body and neutralize all of the acid in there.....enough talking, honestly check this out as I thought I would have this problem forever and am now free of it once and for all.

I am noticing that what I eat has a huge effect on my itching. Dairy seems to make itching flare up, highly procesed foods too. I am starting to keep a food diary to note what agravates things. I've been prescribed diflucan and fungal/steriod creams to help with vaginal and rectal itching with only temporary relief. My next step is to visit a naturopathic doctor. The last few days I started taking bendryl and that has really helped with vaginal itching belive it or not.

I have had the same symptoms for 9 months now. Seen a colon rectal doctor, dermatologist, GYN, family practice, holistic dr, etc...I have a medicine cabinet filled with creams, even one custome made for me ($85 after insurance.) I am desperate to find out what this is. The itching goes from the front of my vagina to the top of the crack of my buttocks. It flares up at different times.sometimes the front itches and not the butt. And vice versa. I am on a special diet that is to cool my liver (yin/yang) and taking some all natural herbs. I will have two good days followed by two bad days. I use a ozone light on it to kill any bacteria I might have in that area and use pure lanolin cream. It used to be moist but now it's more dry. I go to see an allergist next week and hope they find the root of this. It is effecting all areas of my life. For one month now I have had no dairy nor sugars. Plain white rice and salmon, Chix or turkey. No salt or spices. I eat fruit and steamed veggies. Hmmmm....fruit has sugar. Okay if anyone has a clue or has Been diagnosed with something or has a solution to this madness please post. I felt alone and weird before seeing this post, I thought it was only me because I have seen in total 8 doctors and none of them have a clue. So thanks everyone for putting yourselves out there,

Guys. If your anus gets itchier at night, YOU HAVE PINWORM. Female pinworms come out in the dark and lay their eggs around the anus. You can see if you have pinworms by putting a piece of scotch tape over your anus at night and sleep with it or take it off after an hour or two. You should also have your doctor look at it, to make sure it's not hemorrhoids or a fungal infection or anything else. I hope this helped.

It sounds like pinworms to me, but a herpes blood test would be worth taking too.

Its horrible. i’ve been to several sites and there are so many different things it could be and I don’t know what to do.

Hi, I actually just had this problem occur recently with the itching around the anus area. I did the same thing as the person who originally had the question, I literally had to check with a mirror. I noticed it looked like a really bad rash like babies get when wearing diapers for too long. The irritation felt and looked horrible. I figured I should try A&D ointment and tried to give it a day or 2 but there was no relief, so of course I started freaking out.

I am a 30 year young female and haven't ever had anything like this happen before. I haven't changed my eating habits or laundry detergent, etc. And I always change my bed sheets and keep my hygiene up. So I figured theres no reason for this. I searched online and came across this page (and was thankful to see I was not the only one with this! Not that I am happy anyone else has to deal with this because it literally is a pain in the butt!) And so of course I went to the store and pulled every possible thing I could (that people have mentioned on here) such as hydrocotisone, desitin, etc. off the shelf. Nothing has worked.

I finally broke down and called my family doctor that I have been going to for years on a day I couldn't get in because the symptoms were not changing after about a week and a half (and I am no doctor but from the research I have done *and my butt not getting worse at night* I am assuming its not pinworms) I described the issues to the nurse. She called in a script to the pharmacy called *Nystatin and Triamcinolone Acetonide* (Antifungal.. which some have mentioned) (which I have put on today and thank god the itching has gone away (and it's only been on for about 3 hours but the irritation pretty much stopped IMMEDIATLY!)

I am not sure this will do the trick but hopefully it does and hopefully others can ask their doctor about it.

TIPS: my doctor mentioned that most of us do and should know: 1) When you get out of the shower (this may sound funny) but take a hair dryer (obviously not on full blast heat) and completely dry the area below (especially in places that have high humidity.. which I live in FL.) 2) Keep your hands clean and especially wash them after using the restroom. 3) Where loose clothes (especially in the summer) 4) Wear cotton underwear (and ladies try to avoid thongs.) 5) ***And one thing people have mentioned before (use wet toilet paper when doing #2 in the bathroom to avoid causing anymore irritation.) But the easiest thing is to use UNSCENTED BABY WIPES, they help to keep you cleaner down there anyway!)

Hope this helps and I will update this to let people know if the cream prescribed works!
