The rising trend of Kim Kardashian and her fab family has led to a HUGE increase in the number of butt implants and butt surgeries, according to a 2014 report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Learn more about bum surgery right here!

Augmentation is a general term for the sculpting, lifting and shaping of any part of your body. In buttock augmentation, this can include fat grafting, fat injections, silicone implants, a lift, creating a tissue flap on the buttock to give enhanced lift and height to the buttock, or a combination of all of the above. It's basically a way to make your bum look bigger, whether you're adding a lot of volume or a little bit of volume.

(By the way, a tissue flap simply involves taking volume from where you already have it, "rolling it", and using it as sort of a ready made implant to make your bum rounder and tighter. The benefit of these types of surgeries is that they tend to last longer, and because the implants are made from the patient's own flesh and tissue, they settle more quickly and readily, and look more natural. On the other hand, patients may also experience more bruising, bleeding and swelling.

Butt Implants

Butt implants are probably the most talked about plastic surgery of the moment, but fewer celebrities have them than you probably think. There are a lot of rumours about Kim K and her family, and whether or not they have had implants. It's true — their bums look rounder and perhaps a little bigger than they used to, but this isn't necessarily because they've had implants.

Implants will generally only be used when you have a really flat bum and there is really no other way to achieve fullness unless there is something false in there, or, if you want to achieve a perfectly rounded shape, without that slightly dipped natural appearance.

It really depends on what look you're after, which is something you'll have to discuss with your surgeon. If you're looking for implants, keep in mind that it's quite a major surgery, as the skin is seperated from the muscle wall in order to fit the implant and for it to move with your body. It'll mean a lot of bruising — and you won't be able to sit comfortably for quite a while. But, once you're all healed, you'll have a gorgeous bum.

Bum Injections

Bum injections are the cheapest and least invasive way to get a fuller behind. They work in a similar way to lip fillers and use similar ingredients, meaning that over time, the injections are safely absorbed back into your body (provided that you get them done by a licensed surgeon), so this isn't a permanent solution. It's a good way to test out whether or not a fuller behind is for you, though. Your bum will be lightly anaesthetised, and then a series of injections will be made to fill out any dimples or divots, and to give your buttocks a plumper and rounder appearance. Injections can also be used to give a lifted appearance, and are often used alongside implants, surgeries and lifts to fill in any gaps or dips, if any, to ensure a completely smooth appearance.
Side effects are minimal and tend to include some bruising and swelling.
