I had the ablation procedure done in November of 2005. The first year, my periods were very light and lasted 3 days. The only side affect was the horrible cramps. I went to the doctor and he told me that due to the ablation procedure when my body produces the female horomone each month, it causes my uterus to contract which causes the cramping. That lasted a year and then the year after, the cramps went away but my periods got a little heavier and last longer. If you'd like to read my blog, please go to:ablationbaby.blogspot.com/ to read more about my story ....
Hi,
Here's a website that is very very helpful for ablation patients. I have NovaSure, D&C & Hysteroscopy this past March and yes I did gain a few pounds but nothing major --- still can wear the same size of clothing just a bit tighter. While I still have minor cramping, I'm bloodless since April.
:-D Check it out!

I call it my "mommy dearest" moments. I think that's the only way I know I normally would be getting my period. Although the reason I am on this board is because for the first time since my Novasure (Apr 08) I have pink discharge and was wondering if this is my period?
I'm 35 years old, and had a uterine ablation one year ago, due to severe heavy bleeding during periods. I'm finding that my periods have been lighter, with less bleeding, but the pain with menstrual cramping that I experience is much, much worse, since I've had the ablation. I have 2 days of pain where I feel that I can barely move or function, due to the pain.
I am also having problems losing weight, but I wasn't sure if this was a side effect of the ablation, or just a result of the aging process in general. I am also suffering from severe PMS, I feel weepy and sad just before my period.
Anyway, I wasn't sure if anyone else experienced more pain after an ablation, was searching the internet to see if any other woman are experiencing the same thing.

I have severe cramps 2 full weeks a month as if I am going to go into labor or have a really bad period since my ablation. I haven't bled since February of 07 at all and wish I had never had the procedure because I constantly get bacterial vaginitis now. Never had this before and have been ckd for every std known to man on more than one occasion since the ablation(very embarrasing as I am a one man woman and he is faithful) The doctors have now chalked it up to not having periods and no way of shedding the old tissues etc...
Ladies do your research before you have the ablation you may not have bleeding anymore but the mood swings wtih PMS and the side effects aren't worth the money spent.

I had ablation done in May of 1008, and have gained 10 pounds, eating the same as well as working out more. However, I am a size smaller than I was in May. I thought maybe I was gaining muscle, but now after reading these posts it may be both muscle gain and water weight gain. My abdomen seems to be even more distended than it used to be before the ablation. So the effects are I am losing the fat on my butt, but gaining fat on my stomach.............not sexy at all!
I had ablation done about 4 weeks ago. Yesterday, I went to the ER with severe cramping. After reading all the entries I am now convinced it is due to the ablation. I am a little heavier, but also have not been eating well. I also am experiencing the "heavy" feeling so many of you have mentioned.
I have always had a irregular cycle, so I am not sure what to expect. I don't know if last nights episode was period cramping or what.
I really wish someone had gone over the side effects with me or I had done my research. It sounded like the cure-all.

6 months after surgery I still have cramping, foul odor and spotting for 2 weeks. Only positive thing is that bleeding has stopped, only spotting now.
it is now 7 months after surgery and my period has gotten less and less each month. This month I had cramps took advil once and that was it. I used a pad for an hour and that was it. Yeah a far cry from where I was a year ago with a period for 3 months heavy bleeding clotting and cramping. This has been a great success for me.
I have the same result and am having identical symptoms. Is hysterectomy the only solution? And if you don't, what happens then?
:-( i had the ablation in March it is now 7 months and have gained about 20 pounds. any suggestions??????? please help i feel like a hot air balloon. the good thing is no PERIODS!!! :-)
I had the ablation in May 2007 and gained almost 10 lbs. within 3 months. The doctor never mentioned it as a potential side effect beforehand, and said it wasn't a side effect when it happened. In Jan. 2008 a blood test showed abnormal thyroid. After further testing, I was put on Synthroid. I'm wondering if the ablation caused the thyroid to get out of whack, which led to my weight gain. Has this happened to anybody, and have you been able to do anything to lose weight?
It will have been a year since my ablation (12/07) and sure, the bleeding is less, but the side effects are worse-I would have never done this if I had been told what to honestly expect. The cramping is so severe I am bedridden, I am good emotionally maybe 10 days out of the month, now this past month I have experienced severe nipple pain-they remain stiff and sore like when your milk was coming in after delivery. And what the heck is a sex drive? I also ended up with bursitis in my hip from being in the stirrups so long. Ladies, don' t do this procedure! Does anyone have any ideas on how to help this misery?
I am so glad I found this site. I too had an ablation in June 08 and now in November have put on a good 15-20 lbs. I am depressed, and feeling fat but refuse to buy bigger pants. Is there no answer?
Hi I had a thermal ablation in Sept 07, I had 3/4 months of no periods and no pain. Then in Jan 08 I started to have this pain in my left habnd side, it got worse like labour pains, it passed after 2 weeks. In My 08 the pain started in right hand side, down my grioin and in my legs, went to GP who referred me for a scan, whcih showed a blockage, I was admitted for a D & C and eventually the pain eased, i had 2 very bad periods in july and aug, but nothing since. this month I have had severe abdominal pain, breast sorness but no period, has any one experienced this, do you theink the blaockegae to be coming back
