I take armoidthyroid .o15 and synthroid .o75 . Is that what you take?

I am an old timer. I’m 70 years old and have learned to never stop looking.

I found that I do better on natural thyroid than the synthetic. Apparently my body can't turn the T-4 from the synthetic thyroid into the necessary T-3 that the thyroid needs. The natural thyroid supplies both I'm told. I also take more than what the charts indicate that I should according to my doctor. However, using what my body needs, this works for me and with careful monitoring, my doctor is allowing it - within limits. Basically we're compromising. I was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis in my early 40s (it's a neuromuscular autoimmune disease that leaves the muscles weak.) This means little to no exercise as such. It takes most of your energy to get through the daily necessities.

Two years ago I started gaining weight no matter what. To rule out hypothyroidism, I asked the doctor to run the blood test. She did and unfortunately forgot to tell the lab we wanted a negative result so it wasn’t. She said that I would lose weight on a sensible diet once we got the dosage stable. With the T-4 numbers within the right range, she said it looks good. I kept gaining weight.

I had gone from 119 to 135 (I’m 5’3”) when I asked for the blood test. At 149 I was getting frantic. I went to a local private doctor who handles weight loss along with billing herself as a medical detective. She ran numerous tests, started me on natural thyroid, various vitamins I was missing and we discussed numerous diets as well as the HCg diet.

I saw her weekly for a B-12 shot, did the HCg diet with the shots and I stuck to it! With my limited choice of food, it did take will power but I am stubborn! By the time we finished I was down to 121. I now eat sensibly. Because of allergies, my food is either made from scratch, organic (boxed cereals, etc.), very low fat, and only an occasional treat. I watch the calories and with the extra energy I have with the natural thyroid, I am doing more housework so I’m getting more exercise. The problem? I’m slowly putting the weight back on. I’m considering going back and doing a short HCg diet follow-up with the shots to get the weight back down. This might be my answer – once a year to do a follow-up and keep the weight down.

I think the problem with a diet is that each of us is different with different hormones, food and vitamin needs and hereditary backgrounds. What works for one doesn’t for another. Searching for the answer is so frustrating that we began to feel that it simply isn’t worth it. Sometimes it needs a change of doctor to look outside the box rather than a change of diet.

Re: weight loss
I became hypothyroid after getting pregnant - I'm on 50 mcg of Synthroid. Recently, I gained almost 15 lbs.
The only thing that seems to be helping is this:
I am eating a couple Brazil nuts every day for selenium (to aid T4 to T3 conversion)
For breakfast, I have a smoothie with fruit
For lunch I have something filling
For dinner, I have another smoothie and maybe some soup.
If I get hungry later, I only have berries or non-dairy sorbet.

The only thing that really works for me is to have a large lunch and a very small dinner.

What is a type B female?
Reply
it's from the 6 week body makeover, you answer the questionnaire and it will tell you what body type you have.
Type B:
As a Body Type B, your body builds and maintains lean muscle easily, which is good because muscle burns fat. Unfortunately, your metabolism is significantly slower than many of the other body types and that causes you to gain weight. The rate of your metabolism is the primary consideration in how your body gains or loses weight. The good news is: As a Type B, since you have plenty of muscle tissue to help you burn fat fast, once you use your custom eating plan to speed up your overall metabolic rate, you should see results extremely fast and have little trouble keeping the weight off after the program is done.

I take 150mcg and have no thyroid gland. I eat soy products and was told that its no different than any whole person eating soy. Maybe it's different with someone taking thyroid who still has the gland.

Personally I find that 1400 calories a day works best for me. And keeping carbs to less than 100 grams per day also.

I have been on thyroid medicine for 8 years now. I personally have discovered that my levels rise in the winter when our area is overcast and lacking sunlight, as well, as when I constantly eat high carb foods such as white flour and sugar. Now I am noticing that gluten is a sensitivity. Eliminating white flour and anything with gluten has given me boundless energy. I put in 14 non-stop hours a day. Wine doesn't help my situation, which I love.
