She suggested immediately that I started taking medication for reflux. And the pain started to relief same day as I started on this medication
I wanted to post here because I came to this forum searching for answers earlier, and recently I may've found an answer to my own condition (I didn't self diagnose -- this was from a doctor) and I wanted to post in case it helped anyone.
First, it seems that it's likely not abdominal pain but basically mild hip arthritis. I'm still not fully convinced, because it totally feels like my stomach, but sounds like this can be mistaken.
The condition I may have is Spondyloarthritis
It's also known as "Anklosing Spondylitis"
My symptoms are/were:
- Waking up early morning often with stomach pain, lower left abdominal area (near hip bone I guess), and/or lower back pain (after getting up and walking around for a few minutes, things felt fine)
- Iritis (this is an eye condition that happens with people with Anklyo)
It was the Iritis that eventually linked me to this diagnosis.
Sleeping elevated also helped me, which the doctor cannot completely explain. His thought was maybe that when I'm elevated I shift around more than if I'm laying down flat. Movement helps this condition.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone!

I have the same problem. I am 13 years old and I am 8 months post op for scoliosis surgery. I got rid of one major problem and got a bunch of smaller problems doctors probably can't fix. Like sciatic nerve, more mild back pain, and stomach aches every night. Some nights are worse than others. ( mostly when I lay on my back ) but I can't really control what side I sleep on. And tonight was different. I have a really bad sore throat also.
I have experienced the sensation while upright one or two times as well, however. I work at a standing desk and one time had the pain constantly for almost two days. Then it mysteriously went away for a week. It then returned to again be only while lying down before falling asleep, waking me in the middle of the night, and in the morning before getting up. Standing nearly always resolves the issue.
To me, the pain is acute and comes in waves. It always comes from my lower abdomen and on the left side. I have had blood work and an ultrasound, but nothing of concern showed up. The doctor recommended an MRI as the next step, but I have not gone for one yet.
What you are saying seems very reasonable. My pain has only begun 4 days ago and I haven't been eating right for the past week or so and have been drinking a lot of alcohol so I really hope getting back on track with my diet will help.
The pain I am feeling I can't really pinpoint where it starts, but just a general dull pain in my stomach area. The pain subsides when I wake up and pee, and i was wondering if you have an explanation for this? DId you have the same problem as well?
After reading all these post I feel like you are my only hope so please help me!!
I have been having issues also. Pain in my lower stomach, pain in my left lower back. Went through multiple tests, doctor's appointments, etc. Went for minor surgery today and they had to cancel it because they figured out I have a prolapsed uterus. I used to only be able to sleep on my left side and now can only sleep on my right side. Found this and tried the first solution and had instant relief with the pillow. Sounds to me like you all might have a prolapsed uterus. Mine did not show on an inner ultrasound or a CT Scan. It was only found when they tried to operate. Good luck.

I've had similar issues for YEARS, though reading through, not all the same symptoms. I am a healthy 46 y.o. of normal weight, I exercise and take multiple supplements (have done so for years). My pain is always at night, doesn't include any gas, bloating, nausea, acid reflux, poop episodes or non-episodes, and it's an even pain - not worse on one side or the other. It does, however, have the following characteristics. Wakes me up after about 4 hours, pain is hard to pinpoint but is in my abdomen - seems to start front / middle but then progresses to my sides (kinda under ribs) and around to kidneys. If I get up and pee it decreases a bit, but is back again in full intensity by morning. Fortunately, I'm very good at sleeping, and can sleep through quite a bit of pain. I sleep on my back and on each side; if I wake up with pain, I can often roll over and go back to sleep. Something about moving makes it subside a bit. So I'm not sure if it's the movement of getting up to pee (because sometimes there's hardly any pee to pee, which makes me think it's not bladder / kidney related) or the actual peeing that helps. Anyway, when I get up for the day, the pain is gone within 5 mins and doesn't return until I've been laying down for a few hours. It doesn't occur if I slob out on the couch all day because my abdomen is raised. This isn't the answer, however - there is something wrong! It's not a duodenal ulcer - I don't have any other symptoms of that. Here's two things I've noticed: 1. I got these joint pills (look up Joint Health by Coral Advantage) for another ailment, and found that they lessen the symptoms to bearable (on my scale). They have a TON of ingredients, so pretty hard to say what is helping. They lessen it enough so that 4 hours after laying there I don't HAVE to get up and pee (or get up and not pee), and by morning the pain is still strong but it's less - it doesn't make it all the way around my sides and to my kidneys. 2. One day I had a boat load of (natural) peanut butter (ingredients are peanuts, oil, and salt. Only) and I didn't have any pain! I've been experimenting but the thing is that I ate so much that day it was gluttonous and there's also a boat load of calories in peanut butter :) Trying to figure out if it's the fiber or something else ...
Will speak to my local knowledgeable health food store man soon now that I am on a mission. Thing is, I've been living with it for so long that it's become something that I mostly ignore, especially since my doctor was so useless that she actually said "I've never heard of that before" and changed the subject. I fired her.
This thread is helpful; we need to help each other and report back if we find anything that works, ok? Ok! :) Peace out.
