I recently went to the GYNO and got the dreaded call back saying I had an abnormal pap.
This same thing happened two years ago and they did a follow up and was normal. Last year my pap was normal. Now, I have another abnormal pap. They are wanting to do a coloscopy (spl??) in 2 mths. I was wondering should I get it sooner than 2 mths?
What coudl be wrong?
Is it going to hurt?
If my pubic area sometimes itches.. could that be related?

Hi:
For your peace of mind, you should try to get the test much earlier. Your history should support that idea. The itching is a concern as well. Have you thought about a second opinion with a doctor who is recognized in the professional (medical) community. You are very wise to continue with regular paps. Don't ignore the consistent results. You are on the right track. Take care and let us know how you are doing.

It's hard to speculate on whether this is a serious problem or not. Getting an unusual or abnormal pap smear can indicate a host of problems which is probably why your doctors have prescribed the colonoscopy. As far as I know, the timeline on that is acceptable--but you should ask them to ensure that they shouldn't be doing it sooner since you had an abnormal pap a few years ago. Colonoscopies are NOT pleasant, but they aren't all that awful. Keep us posted.
How are things going? Did you bump up your appointment? Are you going to follow thru with the recommended testing. Please get back to us and let us know what you've decided. Your problem is probably more common than you think. Hearing about your experience might encourage other women to move forward without being too afraid of the results. Let us know what's going on. We look forward to hearing from you.
