Try Carmex products- only thing that has helped me. They are not very expensive

I suggest Dr.Dan's cortibalm I've heard it does wonders,it contains 1% hydrocortisone which I think calms down lips.1 year post accutane and my lipsare of course much better, but I still use vaseline, out of habit and for added moisture. You can go to your local pharmacist and ask for a lipbalm.Their balms have more vitamins and stuff that work better than over the counter products.Good luck! :)

Also I found if I put a generous amount of vaseline before I go to sleep, next morning my lips feel very soft and I can go many hours without re-applying.It'd be nice if anyone will try Dr. Dan's cortibalm and tell me what they think!

I regret taking accutane after using it for like almost 2 months, it made my lips the worse they been in my life, I'd rather stay wit my acne n try other treatment in the future while drinking lots of water and eating healthy. Literally look like I have herpes on my lips even using lip balm u gotta slap on a fat amount that make your lips look more stupid than normally moisturized. Not sure if anyone else had it like this but yeah not for me. still gotta see if my lips heal even after taking it for not even that long..

I think that's great advice Kate. I've had chronic dry lips even since being on accutane and I've never thought to use bepanthen. I will now though!!

Dr Dans relieved the pain but didn't help with my lips at all. This thread is freaking me out my lips are so chapped!! I've been taking accutane for almost 2 months and am thinking of stopping now. I'd rather have acne than these awful lips

I took Accutane over 17 years ago and to this day my lips still peel awfully.

I'm struggling with the same problem. I was on accutane (absorbica) for two months and stopped because of problems with my lips. They continue to go through cycles of blisters, red ring around lips and angular cheilitis. It's been two months of this and I'm worried it's not going to end. Cortisone ointment and aquaphor (not the kind specified for lips) helps, but I still look awful. Dermatologists are no help.

Pretty much the same. I've tried stronger steroids too, protopic, and have even been patch tested for allergies.
I have no idea what could still be causing it.

I have had the exact same problem, it has caused the bottom of my lower lip to become very dark. I have spoke to a professional and in a nice way he tried to explain to me theres nothing I can do now. The problem is the accurate drys out the lips to such a extent that the top eperdermis of your lips gets removed and literally dies off. This then causes the top waterproof layer of your lip to not function as it should. The reason your lips are drying is because without the waterproof layer on your lips the exposed skin is prone to drying very quickly. Using moisturising lip balms help but your lips soak this in to quickly but really you need to be using sealant. Carmex original is by far the best there is and there is no question about this. The layer of carmex on your lips acts as if you still had this layer on your lips. The exposed lips where you feel keeps drying out all the time is the eperdermis and humans have developed the waterproof layer on top of the eperdermis (like what normal people have who haven't used accutane) Im sorry to say but i actually come from a well off background we have looked in to this privately paid stupid costs tried steroid creams. Its simple as soon as any layer gets wiped of your lips you will be exposed and there is nothing you can do with it. If anyone knows different i would love to discuss further but after 9 years nothing has worked and if anything its probably more of a irritation using different products or steroids. This may be hard to read but if you know you know what its like and trust me a group of private doctors have told me there is nothing you can do about it.

It's been FIVE years since I was on accutane and my lips are still not getting better! I NEVER had trouble with dry lips before accutane and now they are dry and peeling off all the time! :( I've tried Blistex, Carmex, Vaseline, Body shop stuff with aloe vera, and nothing works.

I feel for everyone on these posts, but like everyone else I’ve done exhaustive research and tried so many products. Sadly, it’s been 30 years since I took Accutane!! Thirty years provides quite some time to suffer with lips that peel daily. True it is insignificant compared to other problems, yet still it is inconvenient and aggravating. I search these groups and posts hoping that somebody has found something because this adverse drug effect does not really warrant clinical research/trials. So, dermatologists and other professionals are unsure of curative products as well. Thanks to those who have suggested a few things I have not tried. Good luck everyone!

I hate to tell you, but it has been about 25 years since I was treated with Accutane and my lips have not improved since. I use a lip treatment at night and either Aquaphor or Baby Lips during the day. My doctor just recommended 10% calendula ointment, so I will try that. Accutane was the worst decision I made in my life.

I use Bepanthen too. It’s simply magical.

i have the same issue since i took isotretinoin 17 years ago. i have also higher sun sensitivity meaning that my skin turns red quickly without sun protection and some dry eye symptom. i am affraid to read there has been no improvement for some of you in 30 years i was betting on a slow decrease of these effects...since i noticed some slight improvement in the years following tane. if someone can provide some information please share. regards
