According to this, it looks like therapy doses might be okay. It's a class c as they don't know anything yet.

It is your daughter-in-law's business between her and the ob-gyn. She doesn't have to tell you anything.

I have two healthy babies, Charlotte is 3 years and my son Aiden is 1.5 years. I tried stopping my adderall prescription during both pregnancies and I struggled right up until the end so needless to say I was on adderall and both my babies are brilliant, beautiful, healthy and happy. I stressed and was up and down about my medication contanstly and I feel the stress of fighting to quit was more harmful than my medication. Every woman is different and there are already so many things that could go wrong at any time in a pregnancy, I can't say adderall increases that chance but every time there is a lose, complication or defect the doctors are going to find anything you did wrong and blame it on us as pregnant mothers rather than nature messes up some times

Did you ever have trouble diagnosing the pregnancy early on, while on the medication? I am on the medication, have missed my period by nearly a month now. In the past my urine tests have not read the HCG until nearly 7.5 weeks for a positive reading. My HCG hormones are low last week with blood tests and do not register a positive. Maybe I am not pregnant, however, I am wondering if the medication could be affecting the result? Thoughts?

I have taken Adderall XR for a decade now, and I actually just took a pregnancy test last week and it was positive. I went to the OB yesterday, and he confirms I am only 5 weeks pregnant, so my body told me I was pregnant with morning sickness at just 4 weeks. Amazing my body norified me so soon. :) Also, with my previous child a pregnancy test confirmed a positive result at just 7 weeks too on this medication.

Hey Ladies!! Im on baby #3 and 6 weeks pregnant. I can tell you that when I was pregnant with my two girls (2004,2006) I was taking Adderall xl30 mg when I found out. Granted, I was 20 and 22 when I had both of my daughters, but they both were very healthy babies. No complications during pregnancy or labor BUT I did wean myself off the medication once I found out. Taking the strongest dose was really hard for me because I was always tired but its worth it in the end. I now am on baby #3 and I am weaning myself off. Im 31 now and I know that as we get older, there are chances for more complications. I too am nervous due to my age. I went from taking 3x20mg of Adderall a day to just 10mg a day, just so I can wake up in the morning. Ive also noticed that when my medication wears off is when I start to get nauseous. But im doing it for all the right reasons. I hope this helps!!

I am 21 weeks pregnant with my 5 child. In all my previous pregnancies I went off any medication that I was taking. Circumstances are different during this pregnancy so after doing lots of research and talking with my ob/gyn at my first appointment I decided it was best to continue taking my adderall (20mg xr in morning 10mg ir in evening) The information I found on health websites was minimal since studies aren't done on pregnant women. All I really found was that in a controlled study with rodents of doses of adderall up to 6-8 times the average human dose the side effects were preterm labor, low birth weight, and withdrawal. When I read through forums of woman that took adderall during pregnancy they had no side effects and gave birth to healthy babies that were average or higher weight and suffered no withdrawal. Before I saw my doctor I decided from the research that I found that the risks were very low if there were any at all. At my doctor's appointment my ob/gyn was not concerned at all about me deciding to stay on the adderall during my pregnancy at all. She said that it is more common these days and there is minimal risk to the baby and as long as my weight gain is fine there shouldn't be a problem. She was more concerned about the claritin I was taking for allergies, that drug can cause birth defects and i was told to stop taking it, which I already had. I am 21 weeks weeks now and just had my big ultrasound to check the baby's measurements. The baby is doing perfect and is measuring right on for how many weeks I am. I also am gaining the amount of weight I am supposed to. It started off slow in the beginning but I've gone from 116 lbs to 126.4lbs. My weight gain is right on. If three of my previous pregnancies my babies measurements and my fundal height were both measuring small, and I wasn't taking any prescription or otc drugs except for tums in my third trimester. If you decide the benefits outweigh the risks and your on a dose you and your doctor feel comfortable with you taking then I wouldn't worry too much. It's hard not too, but there is always going to be some amount of worry. I think right now this drug is still new and with it having a high potential for abuse ignorant people still frown upon taking it, especially during pregnancy and if they don't deal with ADHD/ADD themselves. Antidepressants are commonly used during pregnancy and are much more dangerous and risky to take, they all have a risk of birth defects. I believe in the future adderall and similar drugs will switched from a pregnancy class C to at least a B as more studies are done and at the average therapeutic dose, which I think I read was 30 mg. The studies that were done were with such high doses on a very tiny animal, i would expect there to be adverse side effects.
"Available data on the therapeutic use of Amphetamine in pregnancy shows no increase in the risk of congenital malformations (Milkovich 1977). A large cohort study monitoring 50,282 women with medication exposure during pregnancy (including 367 women taking Dextroamphetamine and 215 unspecified Amphetamines in the first trimester) demonstrated no increase in the risk of malformation in exposed infants (Golub 2005)."

Hello Ladies.
I am reaching out for support/advice. I took a pregnancy test last night after realizing my period is a little less than 2 weeks late. Sure enough, I'm pregnant! I am overwhelmed with just about every emotion and here is why...
I have been prescribed Adderall for about 9 years. When I began my Graduate studies my psychiatrist and I decided to add Vyvanse in the morning and IR 20mg 2x as needed so I can Have more control over when I am medicated based on the tasks in store for each day. Adderall has truly saved my life and helped me become the successful and driven 25 year old woman I am today. I once suffered with my ADD/ADHD and Depression and Anxiety. I tried multiple meds for ADHD before Adderall and nothing worked. I have been judged and made to feel like an addict by ignorant family (not my immediate parents and brothers support me 100%) who read all negative articles about the drug. According to the pregnancy calculators, I am about 6 weeks pregnant. I am so scared I have harmed my baby by not knowing I have been pregnant and have been taking my meds as usual. I am terrified of what will happen to me and potentially my baby if I am advised To discontinue my meds. This was an unplanned pregnancy and I always thought I'd have more time to sort out these issues prior to becoming pregnant. I recently started a new job that requires a lot of organization, focus, and documentation ( I'm a social worker). My husband and I closed on our new home and then 3 days later had our wedding. All great things are happening in our lives which we feel so blessed and thankful for, but stress is an understatement. I am so worried I will loose my job without being able to take my meds, without this job, there is no way we can pay our newly acquired mortgage, let alone our other bills. My husband is so supportive of me in every way and just wants the best for me and the baby throughout this pregnancy. I am crippled by anxiety and being new to this area I have no doctors and know I need to call an OBGYN and set up an appointment. I know this may sound like a bunch of rambling I just was hoping to get some support from woman who can relate to what I'm going through or have been in my shoes before.

This is a relief! Someone else who metabolizes Adderall fast. I've been taking adderall for over 15 years and am 33 years old. At one point, I was prescribed up to 150mg (60mg in the am, 40mg at noon, and 50mg at 3pm). I've tried multiple alternatives as well as various combinations, which ultimately have not worked. Currently, I take 80mg (Adderall XR 30mg/2x daily & 10mg as needed). After three failed IUI procedures, we decided to try IVF this summer, which we are attempting for the second time this month after a failed cycle last month due to my body producing too many eggs too fast.

Anyway, I am getting off topic. I greatly fear taking Adderall while pregnant, especially considering my unusually high dosage. I have tried a smaller dose and it has not worked. Yet, is it worth the risk of having a child with life-long struggles?

I've asked opinons from several different specialists (maternal fetal specialist, OBGYN, PC, endocrinologist, and psychiatrist). All of these professionals have said the same thing: "Since its a class C drug, so the research pertaining to humans is nonexistent. So, this is something for you to decide. Do the risks outwieght the benefits?"

I understand the reasons for not taking it during breast feeding, but I do not feel 100% confident with taking it during pregnancy. Yet, I know without my Adderall, I get nearly nothing done during the day and I struggle to get out of bed before 1:00 pm. Plus, I turn into a grouch and have high anxiety due to unmanaged ADD.

Based on what I've read here, I feel confident about continuing my Adderall regiment. I will try to lower it to 60mg if possible in order to keep my job. It's strange that I am getting more information here than from five highly trained professionals!! Anyway, for those who can do without Adderall, I am jealous of you!
