Hi everyone!! :D AnonaMOUSE here! Sorry I haven't been on for so long, maybe 4-5 months? Also, I pretty much have got rid of this problem. I do the ocassional scratch when I'm concentrating on homework or bored, but I've stopped! Hello Craig btw :D This will probably be the last time I go on this site so I'd just like to say goodbye everyone, I'll miss you! -AnonaMOUSE P.s: A good tip is find a different habbit that's easier to get rid of, like chewing gum or doodling on a notepad.

Its been a year already, but I'll answer anyway. "Seek help! seriously" is not funny at all -.-

If you think they're weird, let them be, after all, "one persons weird is another persons normal". "Don't take life so seriously".

went to hairdressers yesterday and the scab that i had left intact on my head was ripped right of while she was cutting my hair,  the comb caught, it was all over so quickly but it stung for a bit afterwards

I have been following this thread for a few years now (I posted years ago and that's why I'm following it), but I have to say--- picking your own dandruff is one thing but picking someon else's---- That got to be the nastiest thing I have every heard!   I shudder at the thought.

I like picking my dandruff out ( doing the snow shower thing) I also like going through my dads hair, he is 65 now and he had loads of larger flakes, he doesn't wash his hair often.

Im addicted to scratching my head too. i really want to stop. Its getting worse. It hurts to brush my hair because i have scabs. I feel ashamed doing it because it distracts me from my school work. Im loosing so much hair. Do any of you guys like to look at the dandruff in your hair. i try to stop it. i put my hair up in a pony tail and it keeps me from scratching. In school ive gotten better usually after lunch i start scratching. I have nothing better to do. You know boring lectures.

I know what you mean, I dread having my hair cut because of my head scabs, I know how much pain I go through when one or more of my scabs get sliced through, my head actually got jerked back last time as the comb dug into the scab, then to make matters worse the hair dresser sprayed my hair with hair spray and it stung like mad.

Its incredibly fine i used to have dandriff to because in the shower i have a problem of not rinsing the back of my head lol but dont try to itch it so much cause if u itch it too much it will go red and cause scabs .. it has happens to me once . one thing i might recommend and i know u wanna see like snow from ur head but its not healthy for ur hair or scalp to itch anyways. one thing i recommend is u go to ur local pharmacy or grocery store and get dandriff serum my friend uses it and it gets rid of all dandriff . its a process but it works !! hope this helps

20 year old female; I do the same thing. It started when I started college, i would scratch my head when its not itch, and get stuff under my nails and then afterward i would eat it. I get some sort of pleasure from it, I dont know why.

Chris at work has mousy blonde hair, I noticed the other day a good covering of dandruff on his dark blue shirt, this made me think - do black and Asian people have black dandruff, do they have to avoid wearing white tops for fear of showing the black dandruff fall on their clothes.?

I believe this habit/compulsion may be a form a Dermatillomania (also known as CSP, Compulsive Skin Picking), which is VERY common and which I have suffered from for decades. People with CSP targeting their SCALP is also very common (perhaps because your hair hides the embarassing effects). There are numerous websites addressing Dermatillomania/CSP and many online forums where people can share their experiences and get emotional support. Treatment for Dermatillomania/CSP appears to be fairly specialized and unfortunately there is no one in my city to help me. Depending on where you live, you might have better luck (assuming you want help stopping).
