Hope this helped.
Hi everyone
I am also allergice to chapstick too. I tried EVERYTHING! i tried vasoline, blistex, burts bees, neosporin lip health, and nothing seemed to make the bumps go away. so i did some research and saw that a lot of people who were allergic to chapstick either a) went without anything at all or b) used something called Aquaphor. Itts a healing ointment that you can get at your local target or walmart. i saw they came out with a aquaphor specifically for lips, but you can get 2 .35 oz tubes for the same price as 1 of the lip kinds. after i started using it, the bumps and rash started going away in about a few days and turns out that i use way LESS of it than i used chapstick! hope this helps (:
Hi all, I first experienced these symptoms (super red, swollen lips with what appeared to be blisters on them) over a year ago & couldn't figure out for the life of me what it was or what caused it. I had to go to the ER because they got really bad & even the ER physician was stumped. I thought maybe it was an acquired allergy to chapstick because I used regular chapstick religiously so I stopped using chapstick after changing chapstick types to no avail. I even tried medicated Blistex but that made my lips hurt like hell. So I finally tried Carmex because it is medicated & that seemed to save me. Unfortunately, after the Carmex worked & I ran out of the first tube, I bought the Cherry flavored kind & that had my lips a hot mess once again with the same symptoms. So, I've concluded that I'm allergic to Cherry flavored Carmex because the regular one does nothing but save my lips. Hope this helps. It may not even be the flavoring but the active ingredients in it which are not present in the regular Carmex (Octinoxate, Oxybenzone & Camphor) Good luck!
"It has also been determined that Tocopheryl Acetate is a skin sensitizer that can instigate immune system responses that can include itching, burning, scaling, hives, and blistering of skin, according to The Natural Skincare Authority."
I used chapstick for years, it was the one thing I couldn't live without. A couple years ago, I developed this weird lip rash. It was red swollen, itchy, burning, and grossly it would be leaky. I didn't know what to do, and got all sorts of weird meds from doctors but nothing ever seemed to work. They thought it was stomatitis from Vit B def, but after checking my levels nad taking those vitamins I was fine (although that is a cause) Over the last year I've gradually shifted to using vaseline only, just out of liking. But have recently found out 1 of the causes of my rash. The few times i used chapstick, whether a little or a lot, within hours I looked like a duck. If i didn't aggravate it it would go down. It may also be a food allergy but i know this is one of hte causes. and as someone else said, CHERRY is the worst for me. So now I only use vaseline.
I found that the best way for a quick heal (after trying all ridic things). Is to first clean your lips with soap, to make it dry. If it ISN"T due to chapstick, you want to make sure you provide a dry area if it's bacteria, so no growth will occur. Then apply a thin layer of aquaphor/eucerin on and around your lips. You get it at any local drugstore, white bottle/tube with a blue cap, it's inexpensive and it's AWESOME. it's the only thing that helps in healing (its a healing ointment). This dramatically reduces my swelling. It won't make it go right away but it's the only thing that has helped and sped up the healing process.
Do take the tablet and/or use the cream on the blister?
Thank you for your post.
