I'm 65 years old and have been taking adderall for about two years initially to give me a little more pep and energy as my other medication makes me tired. Also I find the appetite supressant in adderal a plus though I did not drop much weight... My medicare doesn't cover it now they say it is a high risk for people over 65 .. maybe it is for the best because it can be addicting.

I was on regular Adderall (not XR) at first, and lost a lot of weight. My doctor recommended that I try eating before I take my dose in the morning and then eating before I take my afternoon dose as well. This helped a little.

When I switched to Adderall XR, I gained a lot of the weight back.

LOL, I can look down the page without reading and know who takes adderall, most postings are a few sentences to a paragraph long, i know i have the same thing and some times i have a hard time stopping myself from making sense to what the hell's he going on about. lol

I also had the problem of appetite loss but after a few months i started forcing myself to eat, (tell you that was hard, at times i couldn't sawllow and had to spit it back out, but now after forcing myself to eat i am able to sit and eat a good meal.

You said at the 50mg dose you suffered headaches, you might wan't to have ur blood pressure checked more often, could be high blood pressure, even though its gone with the drop in dosage of adderall still would be good to keep an eye one.

Good luck to you, hope everything works out fer ya.

After much research and reading regarding, depression, anxiety, and ones' inability to focus and/or sustain a productive life i have come to realize how common it is among so many. Althoug it saddens me to hear so many truly seeking answers, it is also mindsettling knowing there are medications that can help. In a "perfect" world we would not need such medications, but obviously there at times and circumtances that, yes we might need them. Some might say that's not the answer. I struggle with depression but have just been diagnosed with ADD as well. I do know I am functional but not productive and this does interfere with my work and daily routines. As i recently read how someone referred to their mind as "mush", i agree with this analogy. I am unable to complete tasks, start multiple projects with lacking the focus to complete them. I am headed in too many directions that can make me feeling crazed! So from the diagnosis I was prescribed 10mg of Adderrall xr. Although hesitant i feel this might put the pieces of the puzzle back together that have been missing in my life. No, not the be all end all answer but think it is something worth tryjng(with pyhsician supervision of course). You too sound like someone who might benefit from Aderrall.
Best of luck!

Nella: I am a 62 year old male, I have been on Adderall for almost 4 years, due to adult ADD. For the first 2-3 months, I lost weight, because the drug (a stimulant) really tightened my stomach muscles up and I lost my appetite. I lost a total of 30 pounds; that was a good thing because I was overweight. But my body DID adjust to the medication, and I'm sure yours will too. I have since lost more weight (still a good thing), but due to exercise. If you are not taking a high dosage, don't be too concerned. It takes awhile (up to a couple months for some) to really get used to this med, but gracious... it does turn your life around for the better! Best Wishes to you!

I've just gone on Adderall XR 25 mgs. I've always been small weighing no more than 105. I started having seizures a year and a half ago and the seizure medication they put me on has caused me to gain 35 pounds which I feel horrible, I don't like weighing that much especially when I can't get into the jeans I bought last year. My Dr. put me on phentermine 37.5 mg which is the highest dosage you can take, I exercised watched what I ate and went back in a month and only lost 6 pounds, all my friends that have been on that have lost at least 40 or 50 pounds , it didn't give me energy or curb my appetite. So the Dr. put me on the Adderall xr 25 mg I've been taking for 5 days how long does it take for it to start giving you energy and really curbing your appetite so I'm not hungry all the time. I will be very disappointed if I don't lose any weight on this. Please can someone give me some answers on what this drug will do or what I need to do?

Is there any adults out there that can tell me why I'm not losing weight on Adderall xr 25mg? I have only been on it for a week now but I can't tell I have any more energy and I definately can't tell it has decreased my appetite. The main reason my doctor put me on Adderall xr was to lose weight. I had taken Phentermine 37.5 mg. for a month and only lost 6 pounds when I have friends that have taken it and lost 40 to 50 pounds and at least 20 to 25 in a month. I don't know what my problem is, I watch what I eat count my calories , whatch my sugar intake and carbs. I don't need to lose but about 25 pounds or 30 I've always weighed around 100 to 110 pounds all my life even when I was pregnant I gained 40 pounds and only weighed 128 when I delivered. I'm really getting depressed about this, I go back to the dr. in December so I guess I will see if I've lost any since my last visit. I'm exercising every day and watching what I eat and not eating in between meals although I am hungry sometimes. Can Someone please answer my question or let me know if it has or hasn't helped them lose weight!!!

Thanks,

I was put on adderall a year ago. I lost 48 pounds so quick. The only thing I can say is I started working out on an elliptical and lifting weights. Because of the quick weight loss my skin started to sag. But in working out I have been able to tighten up most areas. I would suggest to start taking a lot of antioxidants and drink plenty of water. You will continue to lose and most of all get to the gym or you will have sagging skin.

I'm 31 and have been on Adderall XR for many years.  The suppressed appetite is ONLY temporary.  Your body will get used to it and you'll get your appetite back.  Late night binging is the worst.  I can't sleep through the night without getting up to eat.

I was just prescribed adderall and am on day 3. I feel like I have a cloud in my head and my anxiety has increased. Could adderall be lowering rather than increasing the dopamine in my brain?

I am 33 and was diagnosed with ADHD when i was 15- I took Adderall for FIFTEEN YEARS- I went off of it about 3 years ago- I was, until then, rather thin without working out or even eating right- upon my cessation of Adderall- my metabolism was SHOT- I gained over 50 lbs- I have since gone back on it to finish my second Masters degree (and while it's not at all my primary use, I know it will melt the weight away, because let's all be honest here, it does shed weight with no effort otherwise). I'd like to reflect toward the aforementioned post- I would whole-heartily agree.....with Adderall I feel a relentless drive to be creative and intellectual, focused and productive- a drive my un-medicated brain would struggle to alone create- so yes, it's "borrowed" time, "borrowed" drive-- I will say this borrowing of drive and concentration did allow me to get a 4.0 in my Undergraduate and Graduate degrees.....I will also say that having read hours and hours of peer-reviewed journals on studies of amphetamines on the brain- from the day one quits taking the drug- it can exceed ten years or more for your own brain to quit desiring the drug- I am the prime example of this- I was off for a little over three years and find myself, RIGHT NOW- back on Adderall, loving my life on it- but also with the better part of me knowing, that its only a matter of time that I once again will have to stop. Adderall is a wonderful guide and the worst Master.......don't let Adderall ever take the roll of Master- and if you're even considering that it might be- it already is.
