Hi blondell, I been taking Trazadone for many years for sleeping problems. I got this problems as a side effect from the Hepatitis C treatment. After not been able to sleep for about 10 day and crying for no reason, my doctor put me on this medication and told me is no addiction to the medication. I been on high dosage 100mg,then on 200 mg and then decrease back to 100 and then 50.After 2-3 years been on 50mg. I decided by my self to give up and try to sleep with out medication. I been doing this for about 3 weeks and I can tell is no addiction, but I cant sleep deep as I sleep with the medication. With the medication I can sleep for 6 hours and really rest sleep and function perfectly for the next day. With the medication I fall asleep in less the 5 min and stay asleep for 6 hours. Now with out medication it take about 45 min to fall asleep and I'm half way awake so no deep sleep and no rest as before. I sleep for 1-1.5h then wake up and fall asleep again like this for about 6-7 hours. The next morning I'm okay for few hours and then tired for the rest of the day. When my daughter is stress because of the exams and can't sleep ,I tried to give her one of my tablet and did not work at all. She tried 3-4 times and same effect, no effect on her, so I suggest you go to the doctor explain your situation and let dr. to decide what medication work for you. A friend of my daughter (31 yrs old)have a drinking problems and drink a lot and only gin, not sure because is gin and has something as caffeine from plants but he had the same problems. Since he reduce drinking he seams to be better. So having sleeping problems could be so many reasons. Please go to the dr. and make sure you get exact what you need for your situation. Wish you the best.

hey i take trazodone for sleeping because if i dont take it i want go to sleep
YOU SOUND LIKE MY PROBLEM. HAVEN'T SLEPT NORMAL FOR 20 YEARS NOW, SINCE KIDS MOVED OUT ON OWN. I AM 68 NOW AND HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING SUCH AS ALLERGY DRUGS, GRAVEL, ETC. AND NOW HAVE HAD ZIPLI CONE (?) PRES. PILLS. ONLY GET 4 HOURS OUT OF THEM NOW. GRAVEL WORKS BUT IT SAYS NOT TO PROLONG USE, AND IT MAKES ME SLEEPY ALL MORNING. I HAVE TRIED TRAZADONE NOW FOR 70 OF THE 90 PILLS I HAVE GOTTEN. I AM NOW GOING OFF THEM BECAUSE THEY DON'T HELP ANYMORE SO WHY KEEP ON? THEY GAVE ME A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP FOR ABOUT THE FIRST 2 WEEKS AND THAT WAS ABOUT IT. I WOULD LIKE TO THROW THEM AWAY, BUT SCARED TO COLD TURKEY, SO TAKE NOW AND THEN TO FINISH.
i am also scared to go off of trazadone cold turkey. i wish i was never prescribed to it. do you have strange dreams on it? i sure do almost nightmares. thanks tami
Does it make you sleepy the next day. I teach school, I need to be alert.
My doctor gave me 100mg and it helps me sleep great. The problem im having is staying focused. Everyday for the last three days ive felt slow and drowzyness
I can't sleep without it.
Dr. prescribed 50mgs PMS-Trazodone to help me sleep. I either had trouble getting to sleep, or if I did get to sleep, I had trouble staying asleep. To my amazement, the difficulty went away...but recently I asked about this medication for sleep because I'm due to go on holiday with a friend who is the world's worst snorer. I don't think it fair that I should be constantly waking my friend up, but on the other hand, I need my sleep too. I'm on b/p pills...& the Dr. seems to suspect that the cause of some of the high numbers is because I become quite anxious when attending the office. I asked him just yesterday about taking the Trazodone on holiday & the reason why..but I also told him that a lot of user reviews gave me the impression that it was a difficult medication to stop. He told me that Trazodone is not addictive & that he would never prescribe an addictive drug. After reading the side-effects, I'm very reluctant to take this medication while away, & think I'll forego it 'til Im home & call actually call him if necessary. Never was I told that stopping cold-turkey shouldn't be done. In fact, I wasn't instructed to take Trazodone every night...just when I felt I needed it.
I have been taking TRAZADONE , 25 mgs. at night for about six years now.... It is effective in putting me to sleep and allowing me to fall back to sleep too. The secret is you cannot take it every night !! It loses its effectiveness and may actually start making you not able to fall asleep as that is a side effect if you are taking it every night and then suddenly stop. Otherwise, it worked great for me with no side effects, use it maybe 3 times per week and not in large mgs, 25 mgs works if you are not taking it every night.
My advice is find a different. more empathetic doctor.
a few weeks ago I was prescribed this drug for sleep aid. 100mg-150mg
At 100mg I was sleeping exactly 6 hours. Since I need 8 hours to feel rested during the day I tried the option of 150mg. I woke up after 4 hours.
I tried this a few times and I found out:
150mg = 4 hours
100mg = 6 hours
At that point I made an appointment with my doc to discuss the theory and drop to 50mg to see what it would do.
She declined and told me 50mg isn't a dose. Since I desperatly needed some hours of sleep i went to bed early and tried 50mg with the intention to take the other 50 at midniht. Guess what...
7 hours of sleep.wtf is happening here. Also the hangover effect of trazodone is awefull. The first days I took it I was giggling and stuff. But at this point the hangover effect is worse than the sleeping problem. I don't see how I could ever take this as an antidepressant. It might lift or stabilize mood, but hanging wasted on the couch all day isn't really uplifting either.
Long story short:
I'm dropping the dose and try to go to 25mg. It helps me feeling tired and gets me over the doorstep into sleepy world. It's just too strong and having effects it shouldn't have on high doses.
Good day
I take trazodone 50 mg for sleeping it works good
