Ayeesha... who was the doctor that performed your lip reduction surgery? Does he/she have a website? Also, how much did you pay to get your lips reduced?
I too am thinking about undergoing this procedure over the summer and really want a drastic change in the size of my lips. It worries me sometimes because there have been numerous people claiming that after undergoing the surgery, they saw very little reduction in size which defeats the whole purpose of having lip reduction surgery done in the first place (especially for us who want to see a big change). Then again, i've seen photos of patients who benefited greatly with the procedure, having noticably smaller lips months after surgery. What I believe is that because there aren't many surgeons around that actually perform the procedure, it's best to choose wise and go with someone who is well-known and highly respected as a cosmetic surgeon, even if that means forking out more $$$.

Hi Sadsquead,
I did my surgery in Atlanta GA with Dr Whiteman, he is very good but like you said i don't really see a big difference in size right now. SOme people claim that it takes 3 months to see the final result. My lips are smaller but i think they are still too big compare to what i have seen on the internet and what i was expecting too. I spent $2,800 for both lips. Do it if that is what you really want. I don't regret at all but it's just that i wanted them very samll.

Hey Ayeesha
During your consultation w/ Dr.Whiteman, did you make it clear to him that you wanted a drastic change in your lip size? If so, did he/she give you his/her word that it was going to be done and that is what you'd receive?

Hi Sadsquared, of corse i told him that's why i wanted them done at the first please. It's not like if they are big because i see a big change but i think they could be smaller. Maybe it depends also on the shape of your lips. When i ask my boyfriend and friends of mine they all guarantee me that my lips look smaller; maybe it's just in my head.

So basically when you undergo lip reduction surgery, you are not able to go w/ a desired lip shape, restricted to only your natural lip shape (but smaller)?
Also, i'd love to see before and after photos of you lips if you wouldn't mind sharing. If you don't want to display them publicly, just let me know and i'll priv msg you my email address.

Hi Sadsquared, on don't have any after pics but i promise to send you one , i'm just waiting for my lips to heal. You know what don't listen everything people say, do it for yourself, today i went to a brunch , i put some make up; let me tell you that i felt great about myself for the first time. SO if this is what you really want , just do it. How old are you?

That's great to hear ayeesha. More self-confidence can never hurt a person (only when there is too much). You know, i'm in the same situation you were before you got the surgery. I too am very self-conscious about my lips and know for sure that I will be getting lip reduction surgery over the summer. Also, i'm planning on getting rhinoplasty along with it as well. Chin augmentation is another option i'm comtemplating because I figured if I know i'll eventually get it later in the future, might as well undergo the surgeries I desire all at one time. That way, you don't have to go through all the mess more than one time plus you save some $$$.
I am currently 19 right now and no, my parents aren't going to be paying for the surgery. I just need them to help me get the monthly payment plans set-up w/ the surgeon (under their name) and i'll pretty much be taking care of all the monthly payments from there.
Did you pay for your surgery up-front or are you paying for it monthly?

Sadsquared, i paid my surgery up front, it was $2,800 for both lips, now i'm thinking about having the laser surgery for my eyes cos' i'm wearing glasses and i hate it. It's just that i'm a little bit scared with the laser surgery because if the surgeon mess up you're going blind.

Hi y'all,
I just wanted to chime in as I had a lip reduction procedure done on both lips a little over 3 yrs ago.
I am an asian male born with enormous lips (along with bimaxillary protrusion). They were so huge that they were drooping at rest. It became a source of shame for me because in school I was teased by bullies and ridiculed because of them.
I paid about $3500 total for the procedure on both lips and anesthesia. The surgeon was based in Manhattan NY. I am not sure if I can mention surgeons by name so I won't. (I'll just say that he is not one of the docs mentioned in this thread) Anyway, afterwards my lips were very swollen. After about a week of applying ice several times daily, the swelling went down to tolerable levels. I had dissolvable stitches that took over 3 weeks to disappear - beware of this, because when I returned to work about 2 weeks after the surgery I could not smile because of the stitches, I had to make up some phony story about what happened to my lips.
I would say the swelling and hardness disappeared totally after about 6 months. I am ok with the result, but the surgeon screwed up. I ended up with asymmetric lips, particular my top lip. It is clear when I check the scars that the incision the surgeon made was not symmetrical. Plus, one side of my lip clearly has more tissue than the other side. When I first told the surgeon of this (in my post-op visit), he said somewhat defensively "Sometimes it's like this."
The surgeon did not mark my lips before I went under. I don't know whether he actually did so before he perform the surgery. Maybe this is what caused the asymmetry.
What can I do but let it go? I had to sign a medical waiver form (not to hold him responsible if the end result isn't good) before he would perform the surgery.
Moral of the story? Be very careful who you choose to do the surgery, and even then it may depend on luck. My surgeon is the head of plastic surgery department in a well known university, and he's been featured on television before, so his resume was not bad, but still the result was not that good.

Sucks that you had to expierence that man. Your story really struck me pretty deep in that now I feel even more conscious on who I choose to perform my lip reduction surgery.
Could you possibly share some photos with us? (Before/After and/or pin-pointing the misstake made)

I consulted with just 2. I could not consult with more because I worked fulltime, I only had a limited number of days that I could take off, considering the fact that I needed to set aside 2 wks for the procedure.
Sorry I have no before/after pics. I was so conscious of my formerly fat lips that I always try to make them thinner when I take pics, so you wouldn't be able to see their true appearance at a relaxed state anyway.
The asymmetry is noticeable upon close inspection but it's not so horrible that I am going to spend additional money to redo them, especially since there's no guarantee that the results would be ideal then either.
Perhaps if you went to a surgeon who also specialized in face-work, the result might be better.
Good luck to you. I hope you find a good surgeon.

Hi holyabdul,
I am an asian male with very thick upper and lower lips. They also droop at rest. I am definitely going to get lip reduction surgery for both lips, but I want to get it done right rather than rush into a situation. I've done research on NYC surgeons, and none have impressed me so far. The only doctor that I would actually go to is Garth Fisher from ABC's Extreme Makeover. He's done a couple of lip reduction and contouring. He has several pics on his website.
My question to you is, even with the asymmetry, are your lips smaller now than before the surgery. Would you consider follow-up surgery to correct the asymmetry?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

DO NOT. I REPEAT...DO NOT go to Oleh Slupchynskyj. He is very unprofessional. I came in to do a procedure and he was unprepared. Forgot the equipment he was going to use. I drove out to his jersey office for no reason. Lost a day of work and he didn’t even apologize. I would never ever trust him. He even looks like an id**t. He has this blank stare and seems very sleazy. Yuk!
