I had standard lips and had collagen injected in both the top and bottom with one cc per injection. The lady informed me that since it is not permanent and body reabsorbs collagen to repeat four times unti lscar tissue develops and the results stay. I did so and I believe she used silicone on the last visit -- the lips never went down and I have been walking around with fish lips ever since and I am now going to have them reduced. All people I know imitate the fish lips I now have and people ask if i have herpes on my mouth, I was let go from one job and my mother says as a hispanic girl I now look mulatto, which I am alright with but others dislike it.
I am in long beach california lookng fora good doctor, any references?

First I want to commend you for taking the steps to improve yourself despite what others have to say. I live in San Antonio Texas and wanted to know where in Texas you had the procedure done. I've been to 1 doctor who explained that he would only do my bottom lip and his billing clerk said it would cost 1200 for the doctor another 1200 for the numbing doc plus 600 for the surgery ctr. (I have to pay two weeks n advance) I'm concerned with symmetry of the lip afterwards so I'm not rushing n 2 it yet.

Hey all,

I had a lip reduction done on Sept.6, 2007. Today is Oct 9, 2007. I was born with normal lips and loved them. The problem all arose when I took Accutane (acne med), and after I got off it. I noticed my lips were so volumous in comparison to what they used to be! No one believed me, probably b/c the change happened soo gradually over the course of 4 months that they assumed that these were my natural lips forever--but they were wrong< i knew what my lips looked like and they werent the same...that was in April 05. So i lived with these big lips for a while...

So I finall had reduction thinking everything would be "perfect again." After 1 month, I have to say there is assymetry with my upper lip. She removed too much on my right side...so now the right side of my lip does not close naturally. Which sucks. Also, healing is taking a long time When i smile i feel my upper lip goes higher than it did before surgery. So my smile doesn't look right either. Well i will anxiously await the results in another 2 months....b/c they say 3 months for full recovery...

I went to Dr. Samuel Adams out in Plano, Texas. He and his staff are very professional and friendly. As for the surgery I just had it completed on September 23, 2007. As of right now I can not really see a big difference due to the swelling but the alignment of the incision that he did was correct and accurate. The next step is seeing how much of a reduction he did and if that is what I truly wanted. I only reduced the bottom lip for comfort of speaking and manuerving of my mouth. I love full lips but this was only done for speaking purposes and to pick up the sagging of my bottom lip. I will come back after three months to let you guys know. Dr. Samuel Lams and his staff are very understanding and friendly although, as I said the only question is if the correct amount was taken out. See you in 3 months!

Hey guys I'm also interested in having lip reduction/sculpting done on my lower lip. The size of both my lips are fine but my lower lip is uneven due to trauma as a toddler. I split open my lip and after the surgeon sewed it up, it left scar tissue. Well around HS I got self-conscious and when I was having my wisdom teeth removed, the oral surgeon removed the scar tissue. Probably not a good idea on my part because although he removed the bump, it's still uneven. It's really not visible unless you look really close but it still makes me a little self-conscious.

I wont have the procedure done for sometime since I'm in my first year of college. Just doing research now :-)

Ivory, you've been pretty steady in these lip reduction forums. Thanks for being around since '05. I guess 'Best' kinda dissappeared. I really marveled at her new lips.

I thank you because I've been looking to reduce my lips for years now. I had one lower lip surgery down in NYC. He said that the best he can do is to make them small and curl the lips in so that they don't pout. Because my lips are HUGE.

In the consultation he had told me that I will have to come back for surgery again and again. Because, the fat inside the lip comes back again and again, however, they come back smaller and smaller each time.

At that time, 10 years ago, he was able to get my insurance to pay the $2,000 charge as it was not a case of cosmetic surgery. Rather, I had a condition that was there from 'birth' and he had to correct it. The insurance paid for it.

Anyway, the contours of my lower lip were nicely rounded and even BEFORE the surgery. He kinda disfigured it. Not too much but just enough that I got scared. And, I never went back to him. I still endure the ridicule of people, including friends and family. I should say especially friends and family.

I made a mistake. I should've gone back to him and had the surgery done over and over again till my lips were curled in, small, and gave me my social life back. Actually, because of my huge lips I do not have a social life.

Now, I live in Maryland close to Washington DC. I went on the internet to look for lip reduction surgeons. This time I am determined to get rid of the upper and lower lips till they curve in. I hope I don't have to go more than 2 times for each of the lips. Unfortunately, I will have to pay out of my own pocket.

Never saw a picture of your new lips, Ivory ? How did the surgery go ? do you like them now ?

Hey matador, thanks for the feedback..I'm actually a veteren up in this forum..unfortunately, since 05, I haven't done my lips...I was always anxious because of not knowing how the results will turn out..nervous about wondering if it will actually help me get my social life back or make it worst...I've been to 3 docs in NY with good feedback but I stay really nervous about the whole procedure..that's why I wanted to interact with someone who has had lower lip surgery to feel more convinced and determined.

I've actually got a chance to speak over the phone with 2 of the doctors' previous clients and they gave me positive feedback, but I want to see it face to face to really be convinced...So matador, basically I'm still waiting desperatly... hope that answered your question... btw, do your lips hurt and look uneven or are they somewhat smaller than b4 and kinda straight? and which doctor did you go to?
