What concerns me is why so many people who are on it want to stop taking it if it is helping their pain.
I was having tremendous pain with a urinary infection and could not go to the doctor that day. I took one of my husband's 50 mg Tramadol for pain after dinner around 7:30 PM. (The drug does not effect him adversely at all) I felt a little nauseated when I went to bed, but the feeling went away and I slept. I got up at 6AM and took a shower and was getting ready to go to the doctor for the UI when the world started spinning like I was drunk - everything was going round and around up and down alternately - I could not even sit on the bed without falling over. I started hyperventilating like I couldn't catch my breath and vomiting. My husband had to practically carry me to the commode. We went to the emergency room where they found I had elevated glucose levels. They gave me an IV bag of fluids, phenegren for the nausia, and an inner ear medicine for dizziness. After reading all these posts I am convinced that the Tramadol was the culprit, although the doctor knew about the tramadol dose and did not suspect it. I thought I was dieing...I will never take Tramadol again.
I was jsut prescribed tramadol for tooth pain as well. I am an 18 year old female who has never taken a pain killer before. Well, about an hour after taking it i felt very airy and lightheaded, similar to being a little drunk. All was well, but about an hour after i was feeling lightheaded I began to feel ill. Very ill. I layed down for about a half an hour and felt amazing! I was like "woo! thank goodness that went away!" ..and i began to continue my normal routine (I am a college student, so i continued my homework and reading). Sure enough, 20-30 minutes later i was feeling ill again. This continued for an entire 8-9 hours! In order to complete an essay due early the next morning, i had to alternate reading and typing for 45 minutes with 30 minutes of laying down to relieve the nausea and reset my stomach. THIS WAS HORRIBLE. I have taken it before bedtime to ensure i am not awoken with tooth pain in the middle of the night and have woken up perfectly fine (i sleep about 9-10 hours a night). I will never again take this product during the daytime though. 3-4 ibuprofen will have to do.
I was prescribed Tramadol for a tooth ache. 1- 2 / 50 mg tabs, every 6 hours. I started with 1 at 3pm. After 2 hours the pain was still unbearable so I took the second at 5pm. two hours later I took a Clidamycin 300mg. (antibiotic) I started sweating, shaking, got dizzy, nauseated and loopy. I threw up about 3 hours later. There was some blood in it. Not much, may have been from a ruptured capillary from heaving. That was about 2 hours ago. I'm feeling better now but still queazy and loopy. I can tell it is time released because the nausea comes in waves, as does the pain relief. Scary stuff!
I'm amazed at people saying "I took this once and it made me ill so I'm never taking it again..."
Tramadol is a very strong painkiller prescribed for moderate to moderately severe pain and is naturally going to have some nasty effects until you get used to it.
It's normal to feel ill & spacy for a few days util your system gets used to the drug.
This is common sense and it's incredible how adults (who young people are supposed to look up to for advice!!) are so naive as to think you can adjust to a new drug, especially one as strong as Tramadol, immediately without any side effects.)
I find your comment ridiculous and offensive!!!!. If people are having an adverse reaction, then they shouldnt keep taking it if they are finding the side effects to be extreme.
Dr prescribed me Tramadol 50mg 2 tabs at a time for acute pain from kidney infection, only to find out I am allergic to tramadol. I get mild reaction to codeine so thought it might be from that but this reaction was extreme. My skin was so itchy ALL OVER and I was scratching myself until almost bleeding, this started about 45mins after taking them, sweating, dizziness, shakes, loud oceanlike noise in my ears, sounded like I had put a shell to each ear, and really bad nightmares when I tried to sleep. Spoke to a pharmacist and said that I was definately allergic to it, stop taking it immediately and notify Dr to put onto my records. But in your opinion I should keep taking it until I get used to it! How stupid are you.....and you expect "young people to look up to you"!
Taking medicine that makes one feels very sick is extremely foolish. A drug that negatively affects one severely can prove to be fatal. People die from drug side effects all the time.
