:-D GYNECARE THERMACHOICE; just had it done yesterday, some cramping the day of but not even close to as bad as my usualy period cramps. None today, I think I might even go out and plant some flowers. No drainage yet, just a drop of blood on a tissue. I'll let you all know how the first period goes. My Dr. gave me med.s to relax me and did a cirvical block with lidocane prior to dialation of my cirvics then all I took for med. was Advil for pain. I highly recomend this procedure and hope the people who get have become afraid from the other horror stories will feel better after reading this. Cat
These posts were so helpful, I had to post my own.
Yesterday I had 3 procedures done: Thermachoice, D & C, and the scope procedure. When I woke from the procedures (general anesthesia), I was in horrible pain. They gave me 2 percocets and I went home. I slept in the back seat, went home, and was violently ill (throw ups). I tried to sleep to no avail. It seemed as if the hospital's percocets weren't working. My hubby got my prescription filled and I took 2 percocets (4 hours after the hospital's), and was out of it, in and out of sleep with no pain. I took 1 more percocet at 8pm last night and slept fine through the night.
This morning I have no pain. I'm a little sore on one side, but nothing like I felt after the procedure. I've had lots of watery discharge, some with some pink in it, but nothing unbearable.
I just wanted everyone to be warned of the beginning pain I felt. It was horrible, but very temporary (4 hours).

I had a thermal balloon ablation done on 8th March and had no pains/cramps in particular nut I am still having a discharge which went from small amounts of pale, watered blood colour through orangey/brown and now is reddy/brown but the main problem is the smell. It is not heavy so I can get away with wearing a panty liner but the smell seems to permeate through my clothes and I am very conscous of it.
Has anyone had anything similar?

Can you use a tampon for the discharge?
No, you can't use a tampon for the discharge after any ablation. Want to get an infection?
I'm 17 and i have extremely heavy periods. It has ruined my life at times, i have to run my whole life around my period - i was thinking of having the thermachoise endometrial ablation done, but am a little nervous. Does it ruin any chane of becoming pregnant?
I am thinking of having this done as well......my DR will only perform this procedure with some form of sterilization at the same time. I will be having the Essure procedure at the same time....from what my DR says the Thermachoice procedure will not prevent you from becoming pregnant but it will cause you to loose the baby around the 2nd trimester....I would answer your question with yes it does ruin your chances because no one wants to go through that.
I had the Thermachoice EA done almost a month ago & experienced no pain, no cramping but even tho I thought I was well informed (searching the internet prior to the procedure, reading pamphets of several types of procedures) I didn't know about the watery discharge, and that it could last up to 8-10 weeks in some patients. Apparently, I am one of the lucky few that don't have any reaction until about 3 days later (back at work of course), when I stood up to greet a client at my office, suddenly it felt as if I was pregnant & my water broke. Fluid soaked my pants. Luckily for me, I was wearing dark pants, but they were saturated clear down to the knees with fluid!! Since I wasn't having any discharge at all until then, of course I didn't have any pads or a change of clothes with me!! So embarrassing....and unexpected! After that, the first week of watery "stuff" was very heavy & I was even concerned I might be having a bladder problem even tho there was no pain & no blood. I had a follow up with my gyno & he stated that some patients can experience the watery discharge 8 to 10 weeks after the surgery. I DID NOT read this anywhere in any of research, blogs or post operation postings I read prior to having the surgery, and wish I would have been a little bit more prepared. Since having the problem, I have found a few blogs that discuss the watery discharge, as most of the blogs are concerned about the amount of cramping and pain the ladies are having.
It has been 4 weeks since my surgery, and I am still having the watery discharge, but each week it gets less & less, changing color the whole time & only spotting a little now. I haven't had any period yet, and for that alone I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!!! I just wanted those who may be thinking about having this done to get ALL the information so they may be prepared for what can happen. Pack those pantyliners ladies!!!!!

I had the Nova Procedure done on 4/15/10 and I have had nothing but problems since. On my second month after havingthe procedure I started bleeding for eight days with two of the days being heavy. I went bak to my doctors and was placed on birth control pill and so far it has not worked either. I get off of the pill on this sundaay and I know that I will start all over again with the bleeding and cramping that feels like I am in labor. I would not recommend this to anyone..
For ANYONE considering any of these procedures-read this first-please. I had the balloon ablation February 29,2008 and was 1 of the 2 of 7000 patients unfortunate to end up in ICU for almost a month. my uterus was punctured either during the hysteroscopy/D&C or ablation causing the heated balloon to inflate and release hot liquid into my abdomen burning my organs to the extent that i had to have an emergency hysterectomy, bladder repair, colon removal, removal of over 1 meter of small intestine and bowel ressection all within 1 week. i survived but now have to deal with other more life changing issues. look at all the alternatives before you do this- i was not able to sue for malpractise or have her license removed by the college-the consent form you sign has alot of power even if you arent given all the info-if you are an OB/Gyn PLEASE do not do this procedure if you only perform it occasionally but if you do, may your hands be blessed so this never happens again.
I had the ThermaChoice procedure done on August 4th. It was done in conjunction with an Essure procedure D&C and Hysteroscopy. I am now nearly 3 weeks post-surgery and am still experiencing "normal" discharge. Per my doctor - discharge can last upwards of 3 weeks - and according to some of the descriptions - I'm at the "yellow" stage. I will say, it was never enough to have just a panty liner on though - I needed at least a regular size pad. My experience has been "bursts" of water/fluid - almost like the rush of my water breaking when I stand or change position. Luckily, so far, nothing too embarassing has happened
Post op - I was very sore for the first 8 hours... I cannot take pain meds (narcotics) - so once I got the alternating Tylenol and Ibuprophen going, it was managable. I was back to my "normal" routine the next day w/ little consequence - I did take a nap.
I have not had a period so far - but my doctor said that it could be heavy for the first few, and that we'd have a better idea about the results after about 3 months. Having lived in a pad for almost 3 weeks now has gotten annoying - but if it works, this will be well worth it.
I have had week plus heavy periods - (soaking through super/plus tampon and pad w/in 1-2 hours on a heavy day) - breakthrough bleeding and horrible cramping/anemia. There were no endometrial fibroids or disformities found. I tried the pill and Mirena first, but didn't tollerate the hormones... this is my last step before partial hysterectomy. I hope it works!
Good luck to all those women suffering currently - I'm hoping this recovery will be my last and will be the start of my new life. Maybe I can even buy a pair of white pants next Summer - lol!

I had the Gynecare Thermachoice II procedure done July 20. I had some cramping afterward, like heavy period cramps. That lasted for a few hours and was managed with ibuprofen. Otherwise that day I would describe it as feeling like you've had really rough sex or a sunburn on the inside. Nothing to get upset over. The next morning I felt no pain at all. For the first day there was only a light pink tinge in the bathroom- extremely light spotting. That following week I had no discharge at all. But the next week, I started to have pretty regular gushes of clear fluid with a bit of brownish staining. I had to wear a pad to bed and all day for two weeks until that stopped. One morning, though, it did stop abruptly. When I got my period at last it was what I would describe as totally "normal". No tissue or clots of any kind and a manageable amount of bleeding that was covered entirely in Tampax Regular tampons being changed every few hours. That was a huge difference from before the surgery, when I had to wear super plus tampons along with a pad and change them every half hour, or risk gushing onto my clothing. There were times before my surgery where I would think I was having a miscarriage, the bleeing and tissue loss was so great. It was refreshing to have NO cramps during my period, either. My breasts did not even hurt at all the week before the period or during it. And before the surgery they hurt the entire week before and the entire week during.
If I had to give someone advice, I would say that you should absolutely do this if you have heavy periods. The two weeks of clear fluid were totally worth the lightness of the period. I haven't had that light of a period since middle school, and I am 35 now.

I am trying to decide which ablation procedure to have. I am also going to have a tubal at the same time. I was wondering if anyone that has already had an ablation has a retroverted uterus and if so did that help them decide which way to go.
Well, I am scheduled for a Hysterectomy tomorrow morning at 7:30AM. I will say that the ablation surgery did lighten my periods, however it did nothing for the length or the break-through bleeding/spotting.
My gushes lasted well into 6 weeks, although they got lighter and lighter.
Best of luck to all the ladies!
For the last "poster" - my uterus was tipped back, and we went w/ Thermachoice for that reason, and because I was having it combine w/ the Essure proceedure.

I just had the Hystoscope, D&C, & Thermacare ablation done on Oct 22, 2010. It was all done under general anesthetic. When I woke up I had SEVERE pain on the right side. The nurses gave me a shot of Demerol, and sent me to recovery. After two hrs and another shot of Demerol, I was sent home.
On Sunday, I ended up in Emerg, and was admitted d/t severe pain (it felt like my right ovary was rupturing!). They started IM injections of morphine and gravol, given about every 3 hrs. and started an IV line and nothing to eat or drink. The Doctor on call managed to get a hold of the surgeon who wanted me sent back to that hospital, so I was sent via ambulance. The surgeon saw me and had no explanation for the pain or the clear/yellow discharge, and left to consult with his associate. When he came back - he still had no explanation, but started me on IV antibiotics, IM morphine, scheduled me to have an ultrasound the next morning, and to see a general surgeon in case it was something coincidental like appendicitis.
Next day, was still in a lot of pain, ultrasound was excruciatingly painful - but they did detect that my uterus was full of a liquid (blood or infection), never saw the general surgeon or my Dr/surgeon the rest of the day. Was finally allowed to eat late afternoon, but quite nauseous d/t the drugs. On Wednesday, my surgeon call to see me again - still had no explanation to WHY I was in so much pain, passing infection, etc. But he did inform me that my uterus was very large and he was not sure if the procedure worked (something about was at the max amount of water allowed, and the balloon wasn't taut enough) but we'd find out in 3 mos time. Prescribed me some T3s, indo supps, told me to take it easy, and sent me home.
My family Dr. called me in the next day and put me on 2 different types of oral antibiotics for 7 days. Saw him for a recheck - still in pain, passing infection (yellow/white discharge), and he put me on 5 more days of antibiotics. I see him on Tues ( which will make it 2 1/2 weeks post-op), I'm still in pain, still passing infection.
I have three small children (ages 6, 4, & 2), who depend on me and I can't be there for them the way they are use to (this is my main reason for NOT having a partial hysterectomy done). My husband (who has been very supportive) has had to take up the slack (as well as had to take time off work while I was in the hospital and for a few days afterwards), as I tire very easy, and reaching, lifting, etc, cause immense pain. This is NOT the recovery I was told of or even listed as a possible complication (and I know there is always a "worse case scenario"). Because I need to be coherent, I try not to take the narcs til my hubby is on his way home, and try to manage throughout the day with Tylenol extra strength and naprasen. But I'm still in pain!!!
Has anyone else dealt with this?? And if so, how did you manage? How long does it last ?? And thanks everyone for taking the time to read this.
