I just came accross this and it made me feel so much better to hear that other people have had similar experiences. Today I was sitting in my English class and we were doing our typical warm-up of analyzing a short peice of text.  All of a sudden I noticed that there was an excrutiating amount of pain in my kidneys.  I thought that it would pass shortly and I tried to tough it out.  Then my vision started to blur so it was more of a challenge to see.  Whilst struggling with these two things I noticed that my teacher's talking got more and more muffled.  I tried to unclog my ears but to no avil.  At this point it felt like my whole body had fallen asleep, like I had no feeling in my hands, but I still had control of them.  I raised my hand and said that I needed to get some water.  Once I stood up and starting wakling I felt a thousand times better.  When I got to the water fountain I felt my forehead and found that I had been sweating slightly.  I went to the nurse to take my temperature thinking that perhaps I had a fever and I was actually under the average, at 97.1.  It just really scared me and I was worried that I was going to faint or start screaming becuase of the pain.

Thanks everyone for sharing. I felt a bit better after reading that I'm not the only one suffering from this problem and that it can be controlled. I'm 24 years old and have experienced about 3 major blackouts since age 16 where I had the temporary blindness and ringing ears too. Im usually semi concious, though one time someone had to catch me as I was about to fall. The blackout would last for about a minute or so and i would immediately feel better after drinking some water and eating something sweet. Apart from these 3 incidents, when I'm out in the sun for hours and dehydrated and hungry, i often feel as though I may have a blackout if I don't eat something quickly. I feel weak and experience the ringing ears symptom quite frequently, i.e. I can hear everything in echo, especially my own voice, (but no temporary blindness, thankfully). Wen this happens I immediately sit down and drink water and then I feel better. Today I went to the doctor finally and he told me I may be having a vitamin B12 or vitamin D3 deficiency and he said he will put me on supplements if that's the case. So I took the blood test. Report will come tomorrow, fingers crossed!!

Earlier today I was in the bath, it was a relatively hot bath, I submerged my head for about 5 minutes and sat back up, I was in there for about 15-20 minutes before I drained the water, everything was fine until I stood up, I've felt this before so I knew what was happening, I felt faint and very warm, no sweating like everyone else. I quickly turned the shower head to cooler water and sat back down in the tub then it started happening. My head felt fuzzy and my vision was blurring, so I closed my eyes, for some reason they kept squeezing and squeezing until it hurt so bad I had to open them. Everything was black when I opened them, except the entire time closed and open, it wasn't pure black, there were blue, yellow, magenta and white squares all dancing and glittering very beautifully so I closed my eyes and opened them again and my vision came back within the minute or two, then everything got quite and I knew the deafness was setting in so I closed my eyes stayed calm and put my head under the shower head, the water was quiet then gradually got louder when my hearing came back. The whole experience lasted about maybe 5 minutes, and this happened once a bit worse 11 months earlier. I had eaten well but drank no water so I'm guessing it was dehydration but I would like a solid reasoning as to how this happens, if you have experienced it before and you know your vision and hearing will return it is actually a quite relaxing and calm experience. P.S when I went temporarily deaf and closed my eyes the colors went away and all I saw was a black hole with a white inner circle, what's with all these images when my eyes close??

This has happened to me twice. I feel like i'm going to throw up and then everything goes black and i get a ringing noise in my ear and cannot hear anyone. I start to sweat really bad and i become very shaky. The first time it happened was after getting a blood test, so i obviously thought it was from that and it wouldn't happen again. But then it happened one morning when i was in the shower, earlier that morning i had hurt my neck by jumping around and my neck was very sore to move. My brother and his girlfriend were the only ones home but they were in bed asleep. I got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around me and made myself to their bedroom all while i was blacking out. When everything went back to normal i couldn't move my neck at all. Did you end up finding out what was wrong?

I have heard low blood sugar and dehydration from people. I believe this to be the cause of mine, once while standing in the mall at the telus booth for a long while I began to sweat, get dizzy, I had to sit down, and everything got blurry and sounds started fading into a sort of ringing, after my boyfriend got me a smoothie and I took some sips I went back to normal so something like that would probably be low sugar levels and I am a healthy person to my knowledge. My other experience in the shower I believe was dehydration, if your shower was hot like mine you tend not to realize how high your internal temperature gets rather quickly so if you haven't had any water it could lead to the same outcome. So I don't think it's anything to worry about, my boyfriend also had it happen once while walking in Walmart when he was very thirsty. Just eat properly and stay hydrated, you could go to the doctor to see if you have an issue with your sugar levels but unless it starts happening very frequently I wouldn't worry too much, try to remember every detail about before it happens so you can figure out the cause, your probably not going to die anytime soon, so don't sweat. Just sit down, stay calm, and let it pass, then go get some water.

I have experienced this same scenario 4 times. Im 20 and it has started to happen in me 2 years back. Today it happened again and it was during a dissection class. I wasn't afraid of anything i saw but then suddenly I started to feel warm and my head was all heavy and the next thing I knew my vision got blurred. I could only see black spots and then I couldn't hear anything. I sat down n then it started to go away but when I stood up again, it started back. I drank a glass of water n I felt a sudden hot flush at my face. I seriously do not know what's going on 2 me.

This happens to me almost every time I start my period. I'll feel like I have a really bad cramp, and after a while I'll start to feel lightheaded. It happened today in math class. I got really pale and sweaty, but it was cold. I ccouldn't get to the office without passing out and needed assistance. My vision went black and then really bright yellow, and I found it hard to make out what anyone was trying to say to me. I went home and slept for a while but I kept getting lightheaded when I stood up. My parents just think I don't get enough to sleep or eat but I'm scared it's serious.

I'm 29. This sounds like what happened to me today. It took me a moment to realize my vision was gone, it happened suddenly but I was already tripping out about my hearing fading. My parents had to carry me over to a recliner chair, during the short walk over my hearing came back and it took a few minutes for my vision to come back. Things went from a silhouette to just black and red, to black and purple, then I slowly got more colors back.

Same thing has happened to me. I am a 15 year old girl, and this happened 3 times so far, the latest was just a few minutes ago. I was taking a hot bath (because i had menstrual cramps), and after I drained the water and stood up to turn the shower on. It was cold at first and then i began to feel lightheaded. I lost hearing and vision, then fumbled to turn the water off and sat down in the shower for about 5 minutes until my vision came back. Then I turned the water back on, rinsed and got out while my hearing was still gone. This has happened to me twice before, once about 3 years ago when I was waiting for a lift at a ski place, and once during soccer tryouts right after I pulled a muscle in my knee. Everytime I think im going to die and start panicing, and after its over I feel like crying. Help?

I am actually glad I found this page! I was at a Justin Timberlake concert on Friday. Into about 20 mins of him coming in stage this happened to me. We were quite high up and had seats. I was watching the stave then all of a sudden I had a bad pain in my stomach, a cold sweat came over me and my vision started to go. I sat on the seat. My eyes were open but I couldn't see a thing. My hearing had gone All muffled. This prob happened for about two songs. I really couldn't make out what songs were playing or anything. I was still on consious . I was drinking bottle water until it passed by. After about ten mins my vison and hearing came back. I have never experienced anything like this before. Im not sure if its because it got to hot where i was or not. I'm a bit worried now it'll keep happened.
