From what I've read, it's just your body's way of returning to normal after having it removed. I just had mine removed 6 days ago (after only having it in for 2 weeks due to PAIN) and I'm still bleeding. It is getting lighter though. Dr. told me I would have "light spotting", ha! More like post childbirth bleeding.

Had my Mirena in about 5 years too long. Bled for about 3 weeks very heavily, then a week and a half break and now bleeding very heavily again. Thinking this may be my cycle starting to regulate as I had no periods while iud was in, but it is so much worse than my normal periods ever were prior to Mirena insertion. Anyone have thus experience and had things settle back down?

I'm in a similar boat. Mirena inserted 5 years ago. Removed in early March and transitioned to Nuva ring inserted the next day per my provider. Bled more heavily than I ever have for 30 days straight. Blood free for 5 days afer inserting the second ring, and now I'm bleeding again. I don't know what to do. No pain, but I certainly don't want it to turn into something major.

I wish I knew what my outcome was going to be

I had my mirena removed April 14/2015 after 3 years. This was my 3rd mirena over many years. I've never had this experience before! Today is day 10 of steady heavy bleeding, with heavy clotting. I've read someone bled for 2 weeks before it stopped. I first thought the was contributed to me being 45, and possibly starting menopause. No I'm not so sure.

I am now terrified and scared out of my mind. I plan to have my mirena removed tomorrow and have my tubal all at the same time. IUD has to come out! If you name a side effect I've had it while having the mirena: weight gain, hair loss, bloating feeling, back pain, dizziness, and craziness! Seems as if I need to go to Costco to buy some pads now!

I only had mine in for two weeks, but when I had it removed the bleeding lasted about a week, maybe slightly longer. It was very heavy with clots. It did stop eventually and now a few months later everything seems completely back to normal. It sounds like this is not an uncommon experience. I kept wanting to go back to the doctor but since I was slowly getting better I stuck it out.

I know it has been over a year since your comment but I was wondering how long it took you to stop bleeding after you had Mirena removed? I am hoping to get pregnant too and just wanted to know how your situation ended. Thank you!

If u don't mind me asking how old are you? My mother had an I u d after she had me and when the doctor removed it 5 years later, the tissue around the I.U.D had grown around it the doctor did not know this and ripped it out caused her to get her ovary removed. Now for my experience I had mine inserted in January of this year I never had any kind of good experience with it from the HEAVY bleeding to the ruined underwear, I have had a pad on for 7 months I even had a very strange older older and a discharge. Sex might as well get over that dew to the smell and the fact it felt like a needle being poked in my #$&. So that put a bad strain on our relationship. This Wednesday I had had enough I called my doctor and had it removed. As soon as I did I started to feel better no more cramping the smell has gone away. Although I am now bleeding very heavy and I'm tired my body feels so much better.

I had my Mirena removed 2 weeks ago after having it 2 years. I had been on the depo shot for over 9 years & hadn't had a period since 2004. My doctor talked me into the Mirena. I had problems with it from the start. The strings got tied into a knot some how & I could barely walk, I was spotting most days, & then starting Jan 3rd I started bleeding heavy every day for 7 months. EVERYDAY! I had scan after scan & my doc kept telling me the Mirena hadn't moved. Ok well I don't want it! Had it removed & was given my depo shot immediately after! I'm still bleeding, changing my Super Plus tampon every 25 minutes (I was changing it every hour and a half before removal) and I'm passing huge blood clots. My doc says because I was a heavy bleeder before I started birth control that is why I'm bleeding heavier now! I've already been 7 months without sex... Something has got to give! If I have to wait for my 2nd depo shot in October to get some relief from this crime scene in my pants I may literally go crazy!

I guess we're all "blood sisters"
Lmao. That was horrible.
But I gave the same complaints most of these women are having. I only had the IUD for about 9 months and I was finally fed up!
I got it removed 2 weeks ago. Had NO bleeding until 2 days after it was removed and nonstop since then.before IUD I had light periods only lasting 2-3 days. Getting an IUD was one of the worst choices I think I made

I had mines removed on the 18th of this month. After day 2 omg it's like a murder scene down there. And I have been passing blood clots like crazy. My husband and I wanted to try for a baby and wow from the looks of things not happening... Never again I feel like everyone can see it through my clothes changing my pad every 30-45 minutes. I feel nasty especially when I sneeze.
