My Dad just had ERCP procedure done and a gall stone was removed. He is now bloated and has gained about 25lbs from being in the hopsital for a week with little food. How can this be?
Its is completely common that after gallstone removal of any sort, through ERCP or some other sort of procedure, some abdominal side effects like nausea, diarrhea and most often, bloating, happen. That is partly because liver still continues to produce the bile but the gallbladder is now different after the procedure and the food your father eats, even though it is adjusted to minimize these sort of troubles, still does contain fats, but digestive system just isn't working - yet - as it is supposed to, so there is much more gas from digestion than regularly. Does your father have scheduled post-op checkup? You also can call his doctor and ask if it is still normal for this amount of bloating to remain.
