I've have similar issues. Last Monday I woke up with the zig zags in my right eye making it hard to really focus on anything after a 1/2 hour or so without it getting any better I laid back down to see if a nap would help. Suddenly numbness hit my right hand and worked its way into my face and mouth. I had absolutely no pain through all of this, once the numbness stopped I had a slight headache on the back side of my head, very very mild headache however.

I ended up going to the emergency room (with no insurance..) because I was afraid I had a stroke of some sort. They ran a couple of blood tests and CT scan and when my results came back they told me everything was fine and that I should maybe go see my eye doctor instead... :|

Brilliant.

Can't wait to receive that useless medical bill.

Any help would be greatly appreciated I can't afford to go back to the hospital.

I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH HEMIPLEGIC MIGRAINES. THE SYMPTOMS ARE MAJOR HEADACHE/MIGRAINE, STROKE LIKE SYMPTOMS, AURA, BLURRED VISION, CAN NOT STRING A GROUP OF WORDS TOGETHER, NUMB OR PARALYZING ON ONE OR BOTH SIDES OF BODY OR THROAT, BRAIN BLEEDING AND OTHER NASTY UNEXPLAINED SYMPTOMS...

BEST THING ABOUT THE OTHER SYMPTOMS THEY DO NOT LAST VERY LONG EXCEPT THE MIGRAINE WHICH HAS A MIND OF IT'S OWN. THE PAIN LEVEL YOU MAY HAVE CAN GO UP AND BACK DOWN IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME (IF YOU ARE LUCKY THAT DAY) AND IT CAN JUST STAY AT A PAIN LEVEL YOU HAVE LEARNED TO LIVE WITH ... AND ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH IT PUTS YOU DOWN WHERE YOU CAN NOT FUNCTION

IF ANY OF THIS SOUNDS FAMILIAR PLEASE RUN DO NOT STOP UNTIL YOU FIND A NEUROLOGIST THAT KNOWS WHAT A HEMIPLEGIC MIGRAINE IS.... NOT ALL NEUROLOGIST HAS STUDIED THIS MISDIAGNOSED ILLNESS.

HAPPY HUNTING ... I DEALT WITH THESE WACKY SYMPTOMS FOR OVER 38 YEARS BEFORE I WAS PROPERLY DIAGNOSED...

AND NO YOU ARE NOT CRAZY. HEMIPLEGIC MIGRAINES IS A HEREDITY ILLNESS THAT RUNS IN YOUR FAMILY AND IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY... GREAT UNCLE HENRY ON YOUR MOTHER OR FATHERS SIDE OF THE FAMILY COULD HAVE HAD THEM... OR GUESS WHAT YOU COULD BE THE FIRST IN A LONG LINE TO COME.... ONE OF YOUR CHROMOSOMES WAS LEFT OUT OF YOUR DNA... THIS IS REAL AND NOTHING TO PLAY AROUND WITH. IF YOU ARE HOPING IT WILL GET BETTER OR JUST GO AWAY FOREVER IS ONLY FOOLING YOURSELF...

GOOGLE HEMIPLEGIC MIGRAINES AND GET ALL THE INFORMATION AND TAKE A COPY WITH YOU TO THE DOCTOR.

I HOPE THIS HAS HELPED ALL THAT HAS GIVEN UP FINDING AN ANSWER... THERE IS NO CURE... BUT THERE IS HELP IN A PEACE OF MIND AND WITH SOME OF THE SYMPTOMS.

BEST WISHES FOR ALL o.O

I am 28 now. I started having some stroke type symptoms around the same time last year. Middle of January 2010, I had a sharp knife stabbing pain in the left side cheek area of my face shot up to my left temple-this happened twice. Then later on in the week twice, my face around my mouth was twiching like muscle spasms or something losing control it seemed of my face around the mouth area. I was scared that I was having a stroke & was afraid to go to sleep thinking I might wake up with my face messed up. Everything was fine the next day.

Then February 4, 2010 I was talking on the phone with family, I felt fine, was happy & have no idea what triggered this, but while talking I start feeling strange in my mind like I couldn't continue on the conversation, started forgetting what we were talking about, started feeling I was forgetting who I was talking to, then I started becoming aware something isn't right. I knew I had been suffering from anxiety problems after the birth of my baby, but at that point 5 months later I was doing much better getting to sleep & everything. I had to get my husband to quickly finish the conversation, I did not want to startle anyone, but needed to let him know that I couldn't remember families names, then I started forgetting my husbands name & felt I might start forgetting him, I could only remember my baby, & I was struggling really hard to hang on to my memory. We went to the ER thinking I was having a stroke or an aneurysm or something. Once we started getting closer to the ER my memory seemed to start getting back to normal, but I didn't want to chance anything & went on in. The Dr. asked me why I haven't went to my regular Dr. for these earlier symptoms, did a CAT Scan, checked my heart, gave me meds to help me sleep, & told me it was postpartum 5 months after having a baby. I did not feel anything was postpartum & felt that after a woman has a baby that is just an easy thing to pass it off as. The CAT Scan did not show anything.

Since Sept. 2010 I have been under a lot of stress, & I have not been able to sleep normally.

New Year's Eve after waking up I get a bad headache with my eyes hurting. During this 4 hr. lasting headache/migrane I couldn't carry on a conversation because I couldn't think of the words to talk & when I tried to it seemed almost like slurred speech difficult to do. This worried me, but I ended up feeling fine later on. From then it was every other day occurance. While driving head & eye start hurting at the same time, right eye goes blurred seems like slight loss of vision, difficult to find words to talk, seemed like start slurring speech when trying to talk, hard to make sense of the words people used when talking to me I was having to really force my mind to hang on to every word trying to put it all together to make sense of what I was being told in some cases. This would usually include a slight tingle/numb sensation elbow to my hand on the right side. Later in the week all of this started the second time while driving, so I quickly get home thought I would rest, not think about anything, have a cold water & some crackers to try & relax. I kept feeling strange in my head, so I got up to walk off to lay down, when I went to walk, my whole right arm went completly shoulder to hand numb warm feeling & just like heavy dead weight--I was scared, but I didn't want to drive like that to the hospital, & thought the last time I went with an episode I got a huge bill just to tell me it's nothing why didn't you see your regular Dr. for this. So, I tried to sleep, but my head hurt too bad the Excedrin was not working, usually asprin don't seem to. The following Saturday something new was going on. I wanted to get out of the house thinking I would feel better. We went to a store, & I could not tell if I liked anything or not, had no opinion it seemed, head felt fogged like I almost wasn't in the world or reality, like I was walking in a dream--this went on until later that night. I had also a numb feeling in my right eye, never had this before it's weird to explain. The following Monday my forehead felt hot & strange on the inside, I felt normal temperture on the outside & I had no fever which is also strange.

My Dr.'s appointment was the following Tuesday. She shouldn't even be called a Dr. No help, was not concerned, did not want to hear my symptoms, or all of my medical history etc. She just told me to stop taking my birth control that she thinks that I have been having blood clots that have been quickly dissolving that was it. I called my Gynecologist talked to them about all of this, She don't think that I need to be taking the birth control either.

I went to an Internal Medicine Dr. this week to have blood test done check my thyroid again, & will be having an MRI & MRA to see if there is any aneurysms forming or anything like that. I hope not, but I hope to find out what is going on.

Every time that I have said something to these other Dr.'s it's like they have no idea what I am talking about, & haven't seemed to be concerned about it except for this new one.

I have had panic attacks since I was 16 due to uncomfortable, high stress situations. These symptoms that I have been having I thought was being brought on by stress, not getting a lot of sleep or good sleep, feeling like I'm running a marathon without running even while sleeping feeling like I have anxiety in my chest even though I wouldn't say that I've had panic attacks. I have never had problems with my vision, headache, fogged brain, memory loss, or a complete numb arm when I've had panic attacks.

I am glad to find other people's post on here so I don't feel too odd in this, since it's difficult to explain to other's & I have no idea what is going on. I don't understand why there hasn't been more figured out by Dr.'s since this doesn't seem to be that uncommon. I notice most females on here with these symptoms & a lot of young ages that it has started out on which is bothersome.
Good Luck to All!

Hi I suffer from the exact same symptoms but my ultimately leads to a migraine. I haven't had one in a while but I have a couple of times a year. It's rather annoying especially if you're going out or somewhere important with no tablets. Do I need to go to the doctors if there is possibly something wrong with the nerves in my brain?

After a lot of test and a large bill going to the ER I've been told it is caused from a complicated migrane. So maybe others should look into this being their problem.

Yes this happens to me a few times a year! I want answers too. It does not go into my legs but left or right side hand and moves up the arm then goes to my lips. This last for about 15-30 min

Hi I'm 15 years old and I have had two of the same type of thing happen to me pretty much exactly except for the fact the second time it was on the other side of my body and my doctor diagnosed me with complicated migraines. It's a freaky thing especially when it happens to you in the middle of class haha. Does anyone go to the er Everytime it happens? Because I feel it could be a misdiagnosis.

Hi,

Over the past year I have had similar symptoms; loss of half of my vision (top half of right eye) or blurring of my vision, sensitivity to light and sound, numbness of half my body starting from my hand and moving up towards my head and down my leg, dizziness and confusion. They do not occur at the same intensity or all together all the time, I usually get blurred vision and sensitivity to light occurring throughout the day.

I have had 2 CAT scans, 2 MRIs, ultrasounds, a spinal tap, all the blood tests you can imagine and I tested negative to MS.

My neurologist told me that I suffered from a mini-stroke however this was just speculation and also suggested that it is as likely for it to be migraine symptoms.

In fact, every neurologist in the hospital attempted a diagnosis and they came up with - migraines.

Good Luck!

Lily,

I am a 40 year old women and like you I am pretty healthy, a non smoker as well. I have been having the same exact symptoms you explained. EXACT! I have been reading other posts and some are like mine but not exact. I have been dealing with this since I was 18. I chalked it up as being under weight or something because I was always dieting and working out. Since I am 40, alittle heavier and not so health conscious, I don't know what to think about this still happening. It is happening more and more lately and finally I went on today to see if anyone else out there may have the same symptoms or even answers for me. Last time it happened I remember saying over and over again my boyfriends name of 12 years and my 16 year old sons name. Thinking I can't believe I say those names every day. I was saying their names out loud as if I just learned to speak...it was really scarey. As I get older and it happens more I really am scared. If you or anyone else has any thoughts please don't hesistate to contact me. Thanks, Tina
