Ceil, My swellings on my neck (also puffy like a gel pack) have been coming and going since August 2010. I have had periods of time where they have gone away and came back. Once it went away for 6 weeks and I thought it was gone. Unfortunately it came back. Please keep us posted. All of us are hoping that together we can find an answer. I am in Ohio.
Hi, I am struggling with the same issue as all of you but mine is on the left side only and is like a gel pack and I have had mine more on than off for the last 8 years approx. I have had one Cat Scan to check to see if there was any sign of cancer in my lymph nodes and there wasn't at the time it first appeared and now I am booked again for another Cat Scan the first part of May. I do experience pain from time to time with mine. It is the size of a small egg at times. Sure would like to get some answers as I was shocked the first time I discovered it in the mirror.
Dadams9041, Glad to hear you are "done with this guy". Sounds like a real "quack". Anyone with this problem (the swelling-not the bad doctors) have a history of chronic pain? And use of chronic pain medications such as opiates or the synthetic opiates?
Feel better for now.

How many with this problem (swelling on sides of neck..) had or have one or more of these conditions or symptoms; 1) History of alcohol abuse-ongoing or not. 2) Liver disease (not just cirrhosis) 3) Chronic pain and subsequent use or abuse of opiate or synthetic opiate pain medication. 4) High Blood pressure and medication for High B/P. 5) High consumption of Caffeine (remember Coca Cola, tea et al). 6) Does the swelling appear or increase with Stress? Mental/Emotional type Stress. 7) Menopause or post menopausal (not a problem but a condition to be considered). 8) Thyroid problems and prescribed Thyroid medication. 9) Psychosomatic reactions to Stress eg; Break out in hives and times of high stress. 10) Elevated WBC (white blood count) and/or elevated Lymphocytes.
We are asking these specific questions in the hope we can get a good demographic and narrow down the cause(s) for this problem. It seems between all of you every test and exam and type of "Specialist" has been done and consulted. Every type of Antibiotic tried. Yet no answers, treatments or "cures". We have this great opportunity to connect via the internet. Let's try to figure this out. I do not believe it is a "life-threatening" condition but it certainly is cause for concern and may well be something as yet undiscovered.
Thank you, Docmex

I am hypothyroid.
I to have this problem. My sister noticed it on me about 4 years ago. Just above the collarbone I have swollen jell like puffy patches. I went to the Dr right away and he told me it was fat. I'm not a fat person, just for the record. I was not convinced so I got another opinion and that Dr said that it was fat too. I got another opinion and that dr did an MRI and said that it was just fat. I have lost 20 lbs and got to a weight of 128 and they are still there. I just recently heard about cleaning the limph from Dr Robert Morse. You all should check him. He believes we all need to detox. Oh I forgot to mention that I also have been dianosed with fibromyalgia.
I have quit eating meat and dairy. I also have quite eating processed food. I hope this works.

Sorry, itsrawgoodness is on the right track..
I am having swelling on both sides of my neck above the clavical bone, in front of my trapezius muscles. I went to the doctor, he doesn't know what it is and said it's not my lymph node. He thinks it's Cushing's Syndrome. I doubt that very much, I did my research.
I do have a thyroid nodule and have been diagnosed with PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and insulin restistant. All of these with unexplained weight gain and now this. I'm frustrated, it's not normal and the swelling looks horrible I want to find out what this is and how to get rid of it especially if it's not life threatening. I hate it, it makes me look like I don't have a neck.

My wife has everything except the Ovarian and Insulin problems. Has had the swelling (painless) for at least 5 yrs. I say since 2004. Please read my past posts. "Docmex". This is extremely frustrating and my wife (I am "Docmex"-Ret. PA,RN) feels exactly the same. She says she is tired of looking like "Danny Trejo". Is your WBC up? Does it go up instead of down with antibiotics.? Weight gain is mostly in my wife's ABD and upper arms. Keep the faith-we'll find an answer and the more (women esp.) who write in the better. Docmex
My husband has the same problem, swelling on both sides of the neck. We went to his GP and she sent him to have an MRI. It showed no lymph node swelling. Then she sent him to an ENT who said that it was fat pads and nothing to worry about. He said that people come in his office all the time with the same thing, scared to death. He said it's nothing at all to worry about, and very common. I was so glad to hear that!
Hi tupelosmiley. I'm going to apologize if this sounds a little harsh, but I don't believe your doctor. It's very common? Common for what? What caused it? It's not normal. My ENT wanted to do liposuction! My other doctors looked at my like I was a freak because they had never seen anything like it.
I finally found a doctor who said he knows what's causing it and is going to treat it naturally. I've looked into his theory on it and it makes a lot of sense. He said it's a systemic yeast/candida infection and when I looked at all of the symptoms that this can cause and what created it. It seems like it could actually be the reason. I'm starting a detox program this weekend which will go for about 30 days. I'll keep you all posted.

I too have these exact symptoms with no answers from doctors. I even took a picture to show them because it often is not as visible. I also get very tired when mine really swell. I have Hashimoto's & no longer have a thyroid.
I also have hashimotos, but still have my thyroid.
I did some research online last night & found that the lymph ducts join the bloodstream right at the point of the clavicle. I'm thinking that it is probably some type of lymph edema. I haven't had this confirmed but for me I think it's right.
Hi Tupelosmiley! I agree with find a cure....I have been to over 42 doctors appointments, several ER's, and 3 hospital stays. One of my current drs said it was common to see neck swellings. I found that to be crazy, as if it is so common why did 41 other drs not know what it is? I was told that I have supraclavicular neck swelling or fat pads by this Dr, so i decided to research this theory. I also get very sick at times with this neck swelling where I get dizzy, nausea, and neck pain in back of neck. Sometimes I cannot function I am so sick. All my symptoms come and go, as well as the neck swelling on both sides. I have not found anything on these supraclvicular fat pads that go with these symptoms. I also saw a ,Dr that said my lung tissue is pushing into my neck and there is nothing I can do but live with it. Yet, nothing shows up on CT scans or MRI to support this theory. I really think this is a rare condition.
I hope you continue to share your journey with us as we,are all hoping that together we can find an answer and cure to these swellings.
My prayers,are,with everyone here.
