I had an MRI done on mine and was told it was a fat pad. Mine used to be only on the left side above my collarbone, but now one is developing on the right side too.

OK - I have had a ultrasound, xray, ct scan to rule out anything cancer related. Mine lumps on both sides now are painful, under the muscle pushing up. It has created poor posture in my back for the past three years. I finally went to my old and very good chiropractor (not all chiropractors are good) Its trapped fluids in the body trying to get out. He took me off all dairy and wheat for a time (ugh) and I started taking potassium (over the counter) and liquid iodine (oral not regular) the lumps are diminishing. The pain in my back is easing. I am still going to a thyroid specialist to rule it out. I will keep you posted but starting to feel better and myself again. Its been years!!!!!!

I am from New Jersey, also. I have been swelling in both sides above my collarbone, more on the left than the right. I have seen at least 6 doctors in under 3 months for this! I happen to be a Research Coordinator and know a lot about medicine, myself. I notice the pain is more when I am stressed. I tried heat and it feels good, but made the swelling worse after using it for a long period of time, weeks. This was confirmed by one of the MD's I saw. One doctor thought it may be dermatomyositis or another autoimmune disease, everything blood tests came back negative. I was just diagnosed with a lipoma, soft tissue tumors on both sides of my neck. That is what this is! Now, the question is, are they benign or malignant? My face turns red, this is flushing and why my first doctor thought it may be autoimmune. This can also be cancer. My vision is getting worse. I see hazy lines when I read, zigzags, almost like a bubble in the middle. I get burning on the top of both feet at times, about 2 to 3 times a week, left foot worse than the right. My pain symptoms are always worse in the afternoon, from about 1 or 2 pm until about 5 or 6 pm. Very strange stuff!!! Next step for me is a biopsy. I also had an ultrasound and it showed what looked like edema, large amounts. This could also be soft tissue, lipomas are fatty. Do some research for yourself.

Research is one thing, that's why we're here. Tests, doctors visits, that sort of thing takes money, and is another thing entirely. Especially when most of it comes with an answer of "we don't have a clue".

Mine just started yesterday. I noticed it in the mirror after I had been feeling very itchy around the neck--I thought the shirt I was wearing was irritating my skin even though I have worn it before without problems. I have the squishy gel like swelling. Benadryl does seem to help with the itching. I read it could be a stress rash--I have been pretty stressed lately but I've had many other times of stress and never had this symptom! It is discouraging to see that so many of your doctors don't have a clue. I hate that feeling of having something wrong and not getting answers. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2010. I also have hereditary spherocytosis. I take Claritin and Zoloft daily.

That is interesting. I clench my jaw (I dont grind either) in my sleep when I am stressed. Clenching or not, this swelling could be stress related. I have two different friends that have gone through very stressful events in their lives and they developed random lumps on their bodies that they had removed. They were benign.

Ok, I went to a new doctor yesterday. I have had a ct scan, xray's, blood work and ultrasound. It registers as a lymphoma but when doctor examined yesterday the light can shine thru the fluid (its not solid) Doctor feels it is trapped fluids like a sprained ankle swells to protect itself. I have neck pain after a neck spasm 3 years ago. I am going to a muscle doctor to find out if the trapped fluid is causing the pain of if the muscles are causing the pain ..not letting the fluid release. Infection and thyroid are still on the table. It might be a multitude of things and doctors are looking for one.
