I am actually quite surprised to find so many ppl with the same ailment. I have been suffering, if that is indeed a word to call it, because it does not cause me any pain, with this for a few years now. My doctor did an ultra sound on my neck, and said the same about the lymph nodes, and that it wasn't anything to worry about. Mine is only on one side though, and is the same gel pack consistency. Sometimes going hard, but then it goes away after a day or 2. I am going to pay more attention if I am more stressed on the days it shows up or not. It does make me feel better hearing about everyone else, and that it does not seem to be life threatening.

I am a 43 yr. old male and had bad asthma since the age of 2 years old. I don't drink or smoke and try to lead a healthy active lifestyle, although I needed to take inhalers daily. I saw a naturopath last year who advised I take Umbrellux DAO and Quercenase herbs for one month to balance histamines and increase mast cell strength in an effort to decrease my asthma symptoms. Low and behold I have never had to take a ventolin since, it was an amazing surprise for me. That's the good news. The bad news is I now have a large gel-pad like lump above my left collarbone like everyone else here describes and it happened when I abruptly stopped taking my ventolin inhalers. It's been over half a year since I have taken one the lump appeared, and it's still there and doctors have no answers. Thought I'd share this because it seems like it occurred when I abruptly stopped taking steroids (inhalers).

You are absolutely right. I have had the fat pads since I had steroid injections for extreme pain with pinched nerves in my back that cannot be fixed in my situation. I also use steroid nose spray for allergies. If people research their meds and food supply a little closer they will find the answers to these stupid fat pads.

I have to agree with you. I have the same thing and attribute it to my teeth clenching.

I took have this problem, male 58, Best of my memory I have had it at least since the late 80s... although I try not to worry about it it's still concerns me. over the years I have been to approximately 6 or 7 doctors and have asked them about it. About 3 years ago I finally had a doctor look at it and go wow... Actually pulled out her camera and took pictures of it to send to another doctor. Finally she had ultrasound and like everyone else essentially nothing shows up. I too have noticed that they are larger under stress and I have also noticed sometimes like if I do emotion like I sweep or something like that they actually go down to almost perfectly normal like the movement alleviates the fluid. I now just live with it and feel that since I've had it since the 80s I am really not worried about it being a cancer because I even mention to the doctor that I probably wouldn't be here if I had had it that long and they totally agreed. I also try to find out things that make it go larger or smaller or just like everyone out medicines I take food I eat etc etc and on this forum and other forums compare to what other people say compared to mine and there is some commonalities. so I have just decided to not let this overly worry me and just live with it.

I am 36 M and had this issue for a year and a half. It's very strange they only appear when I lift my arms horizontal or I pull both shoulders back. It's like I can make the lumps appear. They are soft and quishy the right is a little larger than the left but like the size of a lemon. Dr. wasn't worried but scheduled a CT scan and blood test and showed nothing abnormal or enlarged lymph nodes. I constantly think the Dr's looked at the wrong scan bc I can't understand how its nothing, especially researched "swelling above collarbone" and seeing the results. Does anyone else have this issue when raising arms or like hunching shoulders back? Very worried.

Hello everyone I too have this issue as well. I’m 26 female with primary Sjogrens I have been from Scott &white to mayo hosp in Minnesota all I ever get for a diagnosis is “fat pads”. Mine do defer from most of yours though in the respect that I’m in severe unrelenting pain when I swell. I first started after a 2 month bout of tonsillitis when I was a child. It turned into what we thought was possibly a footer as thyroid issues run in the family. Needless to say 15 years later and more doctors than I can even possibly name plus being tested for everything under the sun and still I have yet to find anything to even help the pain. I did do a round of prednisone but it was several years after the swelling had already begun.
I don’t smoke, drink alcohol, and eat relatively healthy. I have come to find that eating eggs and drinking caffeine does make mine exceptionally worse in both pain and swelling. I am just so tired of all the pain and the chronic fatigue associated with it. I’ve pretty much given up even having a life. Does anyone have any new information on this topic? Have you found what is possibly causing it or any relief for it?

I also forgot to mention that I cannot move my head from side to side during what I call “flairs” which are the days that I have lots of swelling/pain. Also my fat pads do swell more on just the left side. Occasionally it will just be the right side.

I can relate to this Prednisone stopping abruptly instead of tapering - I notice my neck swelling about that time so you could be right.

Google the brachial plexus, a bundle of nerves that leaves the spinal column and goes into the sub clavicle area where everyone is getting these inflamations. Injuries to the brachial plexus can result in CSF leaks. My theory is that the CSF leak travels along the same path and that the inflamed “fat pads” is the lymph system trying to deal with CSF fluid. -Daniel

Apparently this is a known side effect of inhaled steroids to treat asthma, and I have developed very pronounced pads above both clavicles; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4319196/

Started seein swelling below ears over a year ago and all docs came back with weight gain although weight had no changed in years. About 2 months ago started having "pads" develop at base of neck/collarbone. No explanation yet - don't smoke, very little alcohol, no steroid injections/inhalers. Having ultrasound because it is difficult to breath lying flat
