I see that a lot of people with this problem have thyroid issues (nodules etc.). In my opinion, the swelling could be a special kind of edema, called ‘myxedema’, that is due to a thyroid auto-immune disease (Hashimoto). Wikipedia says: “Myxedema is a term used synonymously with severe hypothyroidism. However, the term is also used to describe a dermatological change that can occur in hyperthyroidism and (rare) paradoxical cases of hypothyroidism. In this latter sense, myxedema refers to deposition of mucopolysaccharides in the dermis, which results in swelling of the affected area.”. I think it’s possible to have this kind of edema when you have Hashimoto, even if your thyroid hormone levels are (still) normal. But then the question is: is there anything that can be done to remove or reduce this swelling?

I have neck swelling above collarbone. I do have hypothyroidism. I ignored it for months until recently. I thought it may be related to my degenerative cervical disease. However, after research, I believe it is something else. I also have sinus issues. I see my primary care in August, ENT in September and thyroid doctor in October. If anyone has results of this condition, please share.

Did you find an answer to your swelling above your collar bones? Same thing started with me this past Monday. My functional medicine doc thinks I may have a parasite. I will check it out!

I have same situation as you. Dr said not cancerous, after CT & US. “Fat” she said. Asked about removal. She said a plastic surgeon and attached to “blood vessels” which can be more harmful than helpful.

Hello all.  I just wanted to chime in here about my own issue and what I have learned.  I have not had any tests for this swelling above my collarbone, but I did mention it to my chiro and he said it is swelling due to my neck being out of alignment for so long.  I read someone else's post on here that mentioned the same thing about the C vertebras being out of alignment and this lower neck swelling.  My chiro is extremely experienced - in practice for 47 years - even adjusts animals - so I know he really does know his stuff.  Seems with everyone's attempts to get a diagnosis thru all the various tests and getting no answers - this may be a possible answer - even though it isn't a formal test result.

I have the same thing. After 4 years , i have determined it is the at synthroid itself causing this. I have no swelling except a few hours after i take the medication. As time goes on, it subsides. I also get ringing in my ears and fatigue 6 hours after taking my Synthroid, so have started taking it at night. Will take it around 6:00 then ready to pass out by 9:30.

Hello, I have reading over this thread as I too have this bizarre swelling above my collarbone. I did recently take dexamethasone. I took it for the prescribed 10 days and then stopped...not sure if that is considered an abrupt stop, but perhaps there is a link to taking steroids?

I too have had soft gel like lumps on each side of my neck at the collarbone region. It comes and goes seemingly when stressed. But when it first appeared was after my second Moderna Covid vaccine. Coincidence? Not sure. I have had a doctor look at it but they could not provide a definitive answer. Anyone else notice this post vaccine?

I have this very same problem that I've had for a few years now, though with mine there is no lump that I can feel on either side and nothing in my throat, just the swelling/puffiness. It gets sore when pushed in and rubbed on along with my shoulder muscles and neck as well. I did go to a chiropractor and the assistants felt knots all long the upper back, shoulders and neck, maybe that has to do with my swelling, though I also have swelling under my arms and assume that has to do with my fibrocystic disease of the breasts because there to are no lumps and if any are very small and aren't hard at all except the swollen glands in my breasts. And i'm aware I really won't know unless I see a doctor, can't afford to see a doctor or get treatment, can't afford insurance so there is none and make to much for assistance. So stuck until something falls apart.

I think this is what I may have thats causing the swelling or I hope its why. My shoulders, upper back and neck are always in constant pain with the swelling above the collar bone and my shoulder muscles also look swollen as well.

Might also be something causing my problem, has to be either my muscles in my neck and shoulders or my bad tooth that needs a root canal.

Also another issue that may be causing my problems is that I too had xray that showed I had beginning stage of arthritis in my lower back, cat scan showed nothing and a mri while seeing a chiropractor showed that I had bulging disks from my c3 to t2 with mild spinal stenosis, mild cord flattening and mild kypgosis on the c5-c6. Maybe I just have multiple issues going on at once that is causing my swelling of the collar bones. I didn't get to finish my chiropractic visit due to covid and insurance ran out. So since doctors clearly don't know what it is, my problem may just be from my spinal disk bulging, tooth problem (root canal infection), thyroid (not sure which one hypo or hyper), I need to exercise (over weight by 55lbs) and hormones (peri menopausal - still have my periods which are irregular always been like that), probably low blood sugar/high cholesteral and who knows.. many more issues I can't think of right now. I need sleep, I'm off for now. Hope everyone gets some answers or at least peace of mind.

My sister-in law developed the swelling on both sides of the neck today. She has lung cancer, and compression from the mass, could be pushing against an artery and restricting blood supply, causing a fluid build up in the upper neck area. Hers feels like gel. She also has skin cancer. Just diagnosed on lung a few weeks ago. She had “something”palms causing swollen hands and feet and redness with flat fingers. Another sign of the cancer.
