Humans can also get rectal strep, just for the record.
I am 47 years old; I had my tonsils out when I turned 30. I was at a cheerleading competition for my daughter and was sitting on bleachers with other parents and spectators. I had a bottle of water beside me which I occassionally drank from. I picked my bottle up to take a sip of water and I could tell from the taste on the opening of the water bottle that someone around me drank from it. I did not think I could get strep throat; over the next 24hours I developed the worse case of strep throat I ever had. While it is uncommon to develop strep throat after tonsillectomy, it is not unheard of, even after 17 years after a post-tonsillectomy.
I am also a school nurse. Recently a student had her tonsils removed over Easter. She presented to me with a semi-high fever (102.5) and she told me it felt like she had the beginning of strep throat; I called her mom and told her about her daughter's symptoms to include the white exudate (bacteria) that was lodged on the right side of her throat where the student's tonsils use to be. The student's mom blamed the "white patches" on her daughter's seasonal allergies. The student ended up having strep throat despite the recent tonsillectomy.
HI my daughter is 14and has had her tomsills out 2 years ago and has had either strep or a throat infection at least every month or every other month she misses so much school and now she has been on penicilln for five days and its not working she is still sick . the dr has suggested her to go get a allergy test to see if she has allergies the other dr says see a ear nose and thrat specialist anyone now why this is happening to her .
I got my tonsils removed around 1.5-2 years ago and I have no doubt in my mind I have strep throat again right now. I knew what the symptoms were, how I feel when I have strep so I went to the doctor, thinking this couldn't be happening because I have no tonsils. The doctor was new, very young, and he insisted on taking a swab, which I understand, except it was 2 days before the weekend. Clinic isn't open on the weekend so I'm currently on day 4 of being sick without antibiotics and it is not getting any better.

Most doctors don't have the ability to speed up the laboratory processes and/or the mail, and even if they did, demanding them to "get the results back ASAP" will not encourage them to do so.
TOTALLY! I've had my tonsils removed, and I'm usually sick with strep!
