If her doctor indeed told her that valium and temazepam are the same thing, then she needs to see another doctor.
Temazepam is an intermediate-acting 3-hydroxy benzodiazepine. It is generally prescribed for the short-term treatment of sleeplessness in patients who have difficulty maintaining sleep.
Temazepam is a hypnotic. Since benzodiazepines can be abused and lead to psychological dependence, their use should be avoided in people in certain particularly high risk groups. High risk groups include people with a history of alcohol or drug abuse or dependence. If temazepam is indeed prescribed to people in these groups, they should generally be monitored very closely for signs of abuse and development of psychological dependence.

Im waiting to get into a detox place my alcohol intake was getting out of control i needed more and more to stop going into withdrawal and i could not afford 2L of vodka a day, it was killing me, so I took matters into my own hands got some tamazapapam and after a few days i was down to 7 units of alcohol rather than 70 units a day and can assure you that taking tamazapapam or diazapam dose a lot less damage than the alcohol. I agree that benzos. Are open to abuse and some people will abuse them and they will need special care in rehab, but for those who want to stop drinking it works to stop dependency.
