I bought the gelatin capsules online from amazon size 00 very cheap to buy think there was 200 capsules in the bag.. I got a pharmacy to order in the boric acid for me, maybe this might be a possibility for you.. if not you can buy boric acid pharmaceutical grade from amazon also.. also some health food shops sell the empty capsules.. size 00 will hold 600mg of boric acid so all I would do is wear gloves, pour some boric acid powder in a dish and scoop some up into empty capsule then push the other end of the capsule to seal..I would make a batch of fourteen at a time... if you go this route just be careful of the boric acid because its deadly for animals and of course us if ingested.. x

So my culture report came back positive again. I am devastated. I really wanted to feel fine and be fine. Was hoping tht the cukture report will come all clear but it didnt. Feel so lonely and broken.

So sorry you have not had the outcome that you so badly needed..looking back at your post you said the infectious disease specialist gave you fluconazole and ampho b gel.. and it hasnt worked...glabrata is known to have a high resistance to all the azoles , I dont know if your doc did a sensitivity test on your swab but it would be important to know if you are resistant and to what before needlessly taking medication when it may not ever work..I know you are so devastated right now.. would you consider doing the boric acid again and maybe doing the treatments closer together if the first round doesn't do it .thinking if you..

He didnot do a sensitivity test. Just a culture tht states "candida glabrata complex may cause recurrent vulvovaginitis. Such isolates are less sensitive to topical and oral azole agents but miconazole and clotrimazole have been shown to have good in vitro activity. Topical boric acid (by pessary) is also an option." Dont know if its a sesitivity report or not.
Yes i am considering trying boric acid again now. Three rounds close together under the supervision of my GP.

When they do a sensitivity test they take your particular culture and test it with all the available antifungal drugs..azoles, enchocadins and polyene drugs..., to see what kills off the glabrata in the dish basically.. in vitro is in the dish .. in vivo is in your body..the thing about azoles once you show resistance to one it is more likely you will be resistant to all as was in my case.. except for voriconazole but even that I wasnt overly sensitive ... I wish doctors/specialists were more educated with glabrata and know how important it is to get a quick diagnosis and to also have a sensitivity culture done to find out quickly what may or may not work..because with every wrong dose or treatment it ups our chances of becoming more resistant with less available options.. because I had been given so much fluconazole before I knew it was glabrata it meant I was resistant to all of the azoles besides the voriconazole even though I had never been exposed to half of them..I think with every wrong treatment it increases resistance and makes the glabrata stronger.. I really feel for you, because it wasnt so long ago when I was standing in your shoes...its so scary and lonely, but hand in heart if I was you I would try the boric acid for a fortnight, a short break have a swab and do another fortnight and see how your going...what have you to loose at this stage.... you might not need three rounds , I did in my case, but every swab the growth was dramatically lighter.. so it was heartening...

I did 3 rounds of boric acid but then contracted strep throat right after I finished the third round and had to take an antibiotic so it’s hard to know where things were at after round 3. i am debating whether to try a 4th round of boric acid or try the ampho b and flucytosine vaginally. To the lady in New Zealand: have you had any luck with this?
I have also read some articles that talk about the fact that yeast can hide in your tissue so to treat with both an oral antifungal and a topical together. Obviously I don’t want to use diflucan. Has anyone tried a combo treatment? I think almost all the oral medications are azoles:(
It’s so hard to know what to do. I am open to any thoughts and input. There is so much trial and error to this, it’s horrible:( would love to hear back from you ladies! Also, can anyone recommend an expert on glabrata to consult with?

Karen, it was back to heavy growth just after 3 weeks of amphotericin b. I did a course of orsl fluconazole 150mg every alternate day for 14 days along with amphotericin b for 14 days. Even while doing it i knew it wasnt working. Now the ID doctor wants me to get a pelvic MRI done to check if the source of fungus is from somewhere else tht it doesnt go away. My gynae said i dont need an MRI as my ultradounds were normal and she couldnot find anything wrong upon 0hysical examination. Has anyone evere had an MRI done? Is it scary? Karen what country r u from?

No glabrata doesnt become resistant to boric acid .. I have had a low pelvic mri don NOT for this but no it wasnt scary, it can be loud in there however.. all was normal...cant understand why they would suggest an mri for a fungal infection...my last swab before last round of boric was very few too karen, only six colonies per plate... next round got rid of it..

I apologise if I sound a bit negative about the medication you have just had or the suggestion of an mri... could you ask your specialist about ampho b and flucysotine mixed in a vaginal gel it has a very high success rate if you decide not to the boric acid...

S, I haven’t done a pelvic MRI but I don’t think it could hurt anything. Though, like D said, I would be more worried about the next step they recommend for treatment more than anything.

Did the sensitivity culture help with the treatment in your case? For me it seems like everything mine is sensitive to is given intravenously. My doc did say Voriconazole is an option. Did you take that orally at all and if so did it help at all?
What natural antifungals were you taking (i.e. garlic, GSE, caprylic acid, oils) while doing the boric acid if any?
What do you think about just inserting the acidophilus vaginally as opposed to on a panty liner?
Do you have any lingering side effects from taking the boric acid for so long?
