Quote:This started recently and has happened the last 2 times she has consumed alcohol. We were drinking wine both times. she is fine all night but once she lays down to try to sleep, she feels sick and and her body starts to shake. Not a very violent shake but similar to a shiver but she is not cold at all. This lasts for a bout 5 hours, she vomits, and lays down and vomits about an hour later then lays down again and so on. Both times we had been up until early morning. She is Type 1 diabetic, on birth control, and was on her menstrual cycle the second time it happened. just some things that may play a role. please help. Thank you.
The same thing has been happening to me...I don't usually drink but after only two glasses of wine..I seem fine but about 5 hours later I start vomiting and my body gets all shaky. Sometimes if you have low blood sugar that will happen. I hate vomiting so for me I think I'm going to quit the wine drinking. Everyones body is different and some people especially females can't hold alcohol as well.
I had this exact same problem and was advised to take pro-biotics and this helped immediatly. I can now drink. It's worth a shot!
I am just wondering if you ever found out what was wrong exactly? I had this happen last night to me after a small glass of red wine. I had a glass of red wine the night before out for dinner as well but have had maybe 3 drinks in 6 months as I got a virus that landed me in hospital and was diagnosed with Viral Labyrinthitis Vertigo.
On vestibular.org there are articles about migraine associated vertigo and red wine is a trigger. I am not sure what is going on.
metformin and any alcohol and i am at deaths door. hospital er has said different on many occations but here goes
pancreatitus, alcohol poisioning, keto acidosis ect. it's all guesses. I'd guess that what ever metformin does to your liver then when you introduce alcohol is just too much thus the vomit, shaking sweats ect. metformin is like antibuse in my opinion. Safer to leave metformin alone and just use more insulin....trust me it works!
If she's healthy when she drinks, ill when she does! Unless she's a glutton for punishment then I'd tell her not to drink alcohol. I'm not even sure why there's any question here unless she's British. Then she just can't help yourself. She'll probably die a hopeless alcoholic!
oops meant to say healthy when she doesn't drink ill when she does
Hope this helps
Sounds like she's anxious. I help client remove anxiety. In terms of alcohol I've only ever had a reaction to Australian red's. I still drink New Zealand red but given the adverse reaction to one Aussie red I avoid all Aussie reds like the plague to the level of a phobic response. Even thinking about that red now makes me feel uneasy. Queasy. Even if a red tastes like a Aussie red I won't drink it. Interesting reflection. I'm about to work with a client now who is doing what your wife is doing and far more extreme. I don't want to help the client drink more I want to help them avoid the effects. For me this means either moderation or abstinence. It means they won't get that high they've been enjoying from the alcohol. So it's a fine balance. I need to remove their anxiety, remove their phobic responses and of course keep them safe. The phobic responses are what will stop them drinking for now. So I'll remove those last. If ever. It'll be a judgement call then. I need to keep her safe regardless of how she manages that internally. Some people have asked why doesn't your wife just not drink and for me with clients that have this problem often they can't not drink. So I have a lot of questions. Good luck with working through this and thanks for the post. Des

Did I miss something? I don't see anywhere that Roger said she was diabetic.
Could be chronic kideney failure where the kidneys cannot filter out the waste quick enough and so the waste backs up into the blood stream causing nausea, vomiting and confusion. However, she seems to young to have this and doesn't drink nearly enough unless her kidneys have a rare disorder...just something to look at...good luck
