I know exactly what you mean. I thought I was allergic to the tannin in wine, but this now also happened from a quarter or a champagne glass of sparkling wine I had. I am also curious to know what is causing this and ehat I can do to prevent it.

I have been a Type 2 diabetic for a few years (diet controlled & tablets - not metformin). Over the past two months, I have been to Xmas functions, dinners or even a glass of white wine or two with friends over a meal. Within a few hours of going to bed, I get restless, hot sweats, then race myself to bathroom with gastro & vomiting, usually 2-4 times - then fine by say 7am. However shattered due to lack of sleep. The first time I thought it may have been food poisoning, the next I thought the symptoms were familiar, by the third & fourth time (and no-one else had been Ill), I realised that each time, I'd consumed 1-3 glasses of white wine. I've also had bouts of busy-legs and feet & leg cramps with the last two times (not sure if related). Today my Dr has requested blood tests, ultrasound & stool testing to rule out gall bladder problems (I don't get pain), pancreatitis or other. If these come back normal, she said we'll try allergy testing. Will keep u all posted.

I've randomly have vicious hangovers after drinking. It doesn't matter how little or much I drink, or what I drink although my body reacts better to potato vodka, white wine and light beer best. I can't drink anything dark. I like drinking but I don't drink daily. Not drinking isn't an option I chose so I've found things that help me. If I don't do these things almost exactly 5 hours after drinking I get shaky. If I'm asleep I wake up sweaty and feel shaky then I have diarrhea and vomiting even if nothing is on my stomach. This used to go on for 8 hours. What helps me is benadryl, probiotics, and hydration. Sometimes Xanax helps but sometimes not. I try to take the benadryl before bed or as soon as I start feeling shaky/racy. I drink kefir daily and that's been the biggest relief. When my stomach feels sour or nausea drinking kefir stops it. I drink kefir before alcohol and after and it's almost like a miracle how I haven't been hungover in months. Even when I got carried away and drank two bottles of champagne, I threw up once and then I was fine. It helps to drink water with a tsp honey and dash of salt to rehydrate or Gatorade or Pedialyte. I don't know why the alcohol affects us this way but I know for me the kefir drink and acidophilus supplements stop the diarrhea/nausea part and the benadryl stops the shakes best. I hope this helps you. -Elizabeth

Hello did you ever get an answer to this problem. I am experiencing the exact same thing. After just a couple drinks I'm totally fine. Not drunk at all. As soon as I go to bed and lie down, within the hour I'm shaking shivering diarrhoea and sometimes vomiting. No explanation. Goes on until about 3 am then shattered next day. I've tried cider, wine, Malibu, and more recently vodka ( being potato based) I thought I'd be okay with vodka. But no same result and only had 2. I'm stuck with ideas/causes.

Your reply is off topic, presumptuous, and not helpful in the least. How dare you shame him? They are both adults, and he didn't force her to do anything she didn't want to.

I know this is a long time ago. But if you haven't had any resolution, or if anyone else sees this, get tested for ciliac. It's like a gluten allergy. I could drink certain liquors and I'd be fine, but one beer and I'd be doing just what you described with your wife. Fall asleep, wake up with diarrhea and nausea/vomiting. Also with red wine the nitrates coul be giving her migraines and that can make you nauseated. Hope this helps someone!!

I am exactly the same and trying to figure out what is wrong with me
It has happened to me three times and now i'm scared to drink. I had it recently and all i drank were 3 standard Rtd's.
I get the shivers/shakes and get really cold. I get stomach cramps which means i cannot sleep at all. I get diarrhea and i vomit, but i never vomit up the alcohol, only food i ate. I wake up the next day still a bit sore but really really tired from having no sleep. I dont know whats wrong with me. I am 23 years old and i used to be able to drink a lot and sleep through the night... :( i'm so scared to drink now.
Does anyone know why????

I have been experiencing the same thing for years now. No matter what i drank last time i only had a small cup of pepito sangria within 30min to an hour i started feeling dizzy, my stomach was upset intense diharea then non stop vomiting amd nausea. The shaking and shivering is always there bur thw nausea is the worst because after youve emptied out your insides there is nothing left and you still feel like vomiting and your shaking that usually last me the whole night maybe a good 8h to 10hours. The only thing i have managed to keep down is gin (tanquery) but i cant take more then mayne 2 to 3 onz at a time or ky heart starts racing. Im discouraged i wanr to know what is wrong with me! Cant take any brown liquor, or wines (sweet wines are the worst) vodka eithee... beer but maybw half of one still im too scares to try anything else.

This happens to me sometimes too and i don’t know why. Usually when i have had red wine with a rich meal. Maybe the combo of the acid and the oils/butter? I only feel okay after i have vomited/diarrhea’d it all out. It is so weird!

I have the exact same thing. Began out if the blue about 4 years ago. Can’t explain it but it is horrible. Happens with beer/wine/liquor!

Alcohol and red wine deplete the good bacteria in the stomach. Try taking a probiotic.
