Hi my name is Kasey, I am 22 years old, early this year I had a lump sensation on the right side of my throat it did not hurt it was just irritating, I could eat and drink as normal. This lasted for about 2 weeks, I saw a ENT who told me everything looked normal and my mind was playing tricks with me. After about 2 weeks the lump sensation went away! A couple of days later I developed a clicking sensation that is 100% not my mind playing tricks on me as I can also feel the click this time on the left side of my throat. The click is never in the same place, either under to the left my chin or around the adams apple area, iv had this for 5 months now and its driving nuts. I have had Xrays, ultrasounds, barium swallow and all come back clear! What is this!! And when will it go away!!

I've had the clicking sensation for about 13 years now. It seems to be getting worse as I age. In 2015 I was woken up out of a dead sleep at night because I couldn't seem to swallow. It freaked me out. This comes and goes since then, most often at night it wakes me up, I can't get the muscles in my throat to swallow. It is often connected to the 'clicking' thing, as I think it wakes me up because it takes more effort to swallow when the clicking happens. The clicking is loud in my head and I feel it, very irritating, though to date no pain involved, just a lot of discomfort and fear. I've had an Endoscopy, inconclusive results, have had a barium xray of my throat, nothing found. I'm going to the doctor next week to tell them it's disrupting my quality of life. I've found very little on the internet with anyone else experiencing my symptoms so it's quite disturbing.

Kasey,

Were you diagnosed with Eagle syndrome? If you had a CT scan done what is the length of your Styloid process? If it is above 3 cm, this could be the cause of problem. The thyroid cartilage calcification could also be another cause.

Does your swallowing improve by turning you head slightly to the left or right, keeping it at the same level? If this does not help, lower your head slightly towards your chest and try and swallow. This usually helps. Please let us know if your still reading this thread.
