Hi, I'm 16 and have had this problem for about 2 years. It is legit ruining my life, I have to rush through test and quizzes so I can leave class, which causes my grades to slip. I have tried eating better, skipping lunch (it mostly happens after lunch), working out, drinking water, green tea, probiotics, I've even had a colonoscopy which said that everything was fine with my intestine. Now it just seems to happen at random and all I can do is shuffle papers, shift seating positions, or "accidentally" drop my pencil so I can stand up to bend down and pick it up.

I would recommend Align probiotic. It seemed to help earlier this semester when I took it, but when I ran out, I just forgot about getting more and the abnormal stomach noises continued. I started taking it again 2 days ago and it already seems to help. Also, I would recommend eating a high carb, healthy lunch, such as a turkey sandwich. They are filling and apparently easy to digest. Hope this helps.

I've been having this problem since the middle of my high school years. It started in high school and it was terrifying for me sitting in a full class of your peers and having this issue. I tried cutting classes, faking sick, etc etc but eventually at some point I had to go to class and it was awful. Imagine sitting next to some girl you like or with a couple of close friends, it's so embarrassing having that! This really seems to have in my opinion ruined the best years of my life. My biggest concern is also tests. I HATE TESTS! And you know what the weird thing is? I'm actually a pretty smart guy I get good grades, I'm able to study and I have a pretty damn good memory. When I'm able to sit in a dead silent classroom full of people and not have this problem I can breeze through a test, but even at the slightest hint that this problem is coming up I start to panic and it just gets worse and worse. I end up not focusing as well on the test and sometimes I try to rush through it just to get out of the room.

This isn't normal.. there has to be another way to do this. I'm currently in my early 20s and in university. For the first half of college I had this problem as well and some way or another I managed to get through it but it was not easy. I dreaded going to class every single day and whenever finals week came up I was horrified to be going through it. I'm pretty sure I have some gray hairs because of all the stress this is causing me. I've been do the doctor many times and even seen a stomach specialist a few times. At one point they found some sort of bacteria problem with my stomach and I took heavy antibiotics for it. The problem seemed to get less abrasive but it still continued which makes me think maybe there's something else I'm missing, maybe something with my diet. I no longer eat unhealthy, I try to exercise, I've completely cut milk and most dairy out of my system (I sometimes eat little amounts of cheese but not enough to cause this), I've stopped drinking soda, etc etc. Nothing.. the problem persists. Some days it's worse than others, some days it doesn't really bother me. The days when it doesn't bother me I look at them as heavenly. Someone shouldn't have to go through life only being in relief on a few random days every month it's just so wrong!

I also was diagnosed with acid reflux at one point. I'm not sure if that's true or not but I do often get discomfort right under my ribcage and that area is what causes a LOT of my stomach noise most of the time. When I have gas I try to take gas-x and it sometimes helps but this other noise emanating from my stomach can NOT be just gas.. I took antacid pills for a year or so in my life. I don't know if they helped or not, I would still get these bouts of stomach noise attacks every once in a while. I'm going crazy here.. I need an answer. I recently moved to a different country with my school to study abroad for the year and as if my worse nightmares have come true, classes here are much smaller in size, quieter (the teachers are generally soft spoken so the room is silent), the hours are longer, etc.. we also have to meet up with the teacher once a week for an hour to discuss lectures one on one and I cannot fathom sitting in a silent room with my teacher alone while all that is going on in my stomach. HELP! Whenever I'm in class I try to sit in the back rows (usually at one end or the other of the row) so I can have as few people as possible near me. This has caused some major setbacks in my schoolwork because it's generally harder to follow what the teacher is doing while sitting back there. In one class a teacher even commented on why I was sitting in the back. I was in shock! I was pleading in my head for him not to draw attention to me as I could feel my stomach begin to rumble and all eyes were on me. I was hoping he would just leave me alone.

If I could somehow solve this problem it would make my life 1,000,000 times easier without a doubt. I feel like I would generally have a better time in college and get better grades. I can't go the rest of the semester doing this.. and what's after that? Do I go and find a job and go through this hectic pain for the rest of my life? I'm on edge here. I don't know whether this problem is because of my diet, because of my digestion, or because of my acid levels. I can't tell.. I just want it to end. I really wish someone could find an answer.

Hi I'm 19 years old, i'm a college student and i've been having the same problem as you all since I was 13 :-( It sucks that I try everything to cure this problem. I really want to go to the doctor but I don't have medical insurance, and my mom doesn't have enough money to take me to the doctor's office. I'm afraid of going to class everyday with my stomach going crazy and sounds like I have a volcano inside. Sometimes i'm too shy to turn around and see if the person next to me heard, cause sometimes they're not that loud, but sometimes they are. I hate being at quiet places because this is really embarrasing for me. I don't know what to do, and I honestly thought I was the only one who was going through this. Just thought I would share this with you guys.

I could not find PAMINE in my country so i try to make it by myself, by ordering metcscopolamine bromide. I fail with it :-( But I find breath test for H.Pylori which is done at home, I do it and gave one to other person who have this disorder too, so the test was positive for both of us. if you read my posts i said that i try to cure myself with a first line antibiotick therapy fo H.Pylori. (amoksicilin (1gx2 + clarythroycin o,5gx2 + omeprazole for 10 days). One weak was ok, later i come back :-( Now i'm hesitate between second line therapy and aditional test by h-pylori-symptoms (dot)com they sugest not only testing for H.pylori, but for any posible reasons, but it cost $470.00 :-( if there are some people who are serious and want do something (try medications, can donate for reaserches, want work import/export, are doctors..etc) write my pm, we will find the answer! if there aren't, i will find it by myself and tell you all :-) sorry for bad english..
P.S. Please all who find solution, don't vanish because i have lots questions for you, but all of you seems gone forever from this forum

hi everyone.
well, I'm a female, 15 years old and I had this problem well over 2 years now.
it is so EMBARRASSING. ill be working in a quiet room in school and my stomach will just make heavy, loud noises.
and people will ask what it was to the people aroumd so I would just turn around & carry on, doing my work.
but recently its been getting SO bad. it starts at any time. but I know when its coming, I'll feel it in my lower stomach,
and then ill try to think of something to get up to do so that nobody will hear it. like sharpen a pencil, get a new pencil,
bathroom, get up to stretch from my seat. it seems its most loud when I'm sitting. but if I'm sitting next to someone,
they say the bench or chair is vibrating when my stomach makes the noises. and since I don't have an explanation,
since I don't know what it even is, I say it's my phone. :/
this is RUINING my life. I'm afraid to sit near my boyfriend & cuddle with him because I would just die of intense
embarrassment if he heard.
SOMEONE HELPPPP.

For anyone who still has this issue culturelle worked WONDERS for me.
started having this problem when I turned 16 and it has gotten really bad and I looked up to see if anyone else had this problem to and on another message board someone recommed culturelle so i tried it and it help a lot. I have been using it for a few months and the problem is my body is starting to adjust to it so i have to take more. I only take them when I have to be in a quiet place. After reading this board I am going to use some of the sugestions (like cutting out sugar) i think eventually I will get to the point where the pills don't work at all so hopefully I can figure out the problem before then.

I noticed with me a lot of it has to do with stress and nerves. I am beyond awear of how hard it is to calm your nerves when you think your stomach is about to make noise, but you have to try to train yourself to do so. Maybe learn some breathing habits?? I just know that how relaxed and calm I am has an effect on it. Also, drinking less coffee has helped. With all that said, it does still happen from time to time and I refuse to let it rule my life, I mean everyone has something that cold hold them back but they find a way to deal with it. Hang in there everyone!

I have the same kind of problem...

I'm 27 now and I've noticed the first time my stomach made that much noise was in 10th grade... I bought a salad ..like any other salad I've gotten before, and I felt like i was going to explode... I had this tightness in my digestive track, my digestive track was making so much noise !!! . It felt like i had someone pulling on my digestive track.. I felt like i had to go to the bathroom #2..bad... and i had crazy gas... I couldn't sit still in the classroom, i  was soo embarassed... it never happend before and since then, i've had the same problem every day...

I can eat almost anything, and no matter what I eat, gluten free or sugar free, or carb free, or just carbs, i get the same feeling...it's even worse when i just have soup or salad alone... i get even more bloated... So finally, when i had enough courage, i went to my PCP and he referred me to a Gastrointerologist...   It was somewhat of an unpleasant experience...

He had to check to see if i had any blood in my rectum...so they stick a finger (with gloves on) in your butt...it's pretty gross...  and he listens to your stomach/intestines... he told me it sounded like frogs were having a party in there... and he said it looked like i had IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome) .... My Grandmom and DAd both have the same problem, so I definitely know its hereditary... it sucks...

I told him it bothered me so much, .... and I don't get constipated really, it's the opposite, i have we stools... and very smelly farts, for the most part... and i eat healthy.... i dont eat junk food, or chips or fast food... my mom cooks healthy and i buy healthy produce.... and i can't restrict myself from not  eating something i like, i want to be able to eat it when i crave it...

He referred me to do a sigmoidoscopy (half of your color) and an endoscopy... my results came back negative for anything...i was told i did have a lot of secretions in my colon ... my body just produces a lot of that and my stomach spasms are so intense, that the only thing that would help to regulate that crazy flipping in my digestive track is HYOSCYMAINE.

THESE PILLS saved my life...... literally....  do some research on it.... ask your doctor about it ... I don't have any allergies really to any medication so i was fine with taking it.... you take it 30 min before you eat your breakfast....and u can have milk and soup and still be ok..your stomach will not make any nose and you will not feel the kicks in there at all......

The only downside of that pill is DEHYDRATION.  It makes me a little dizzy sometimes and blurry.... you have to drink a lot of water ! A LOT! the pill decreased my stomach spasms and made it regular.... i dont sweat as much also! ....

When I don't take one of those, my stomach goes back to normal... when i do, i forget I even have those problems.... its amazing... ask your doc !!

1. See a PCP/Gastrointerologist - he may refer you to get a colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy & endoscopy done to check to see what you may have as a result

2. He may put you on HYOSCYMAINE - these pills saved my life.... ASK YOUR DOC ABOUT IT...AND DO SOME RESEARCH ON THEM...

Hyoscyamine(hye oh sye' a meen)

Last Revision: September 1, 2010.

Why is this medication prescribed?

Hyoscyamine is used to control symptoms associated with disorders of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It works by decreasing the motion of the stomach and intestines and the secretion of stomach fluids, including acid. Hyoscyamine is also used in the treatment of bladder spasms, peptic ulcer disease, diverticulitis, colic, irritable bowel syndrome, cystitis, and pancreatitis. Hyoscyamine may also be used to treat certain heart conditions, to control the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and rhinitis (runny nose), and to reduce excess saliva production.

What special precautions should I follow?

Before taking hyoscyamine,

tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to hyoscyamine, any other medications, or any of the ingredients in hyoscyamine tablets, capsules, or liquid. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for a list of the ingredients.

be aware that antacids may interfere with hyoscyamine, making it less effective. Take hyoscyamine 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids.

tell your doctor if you have or have ever had glaucoma; heart, lung, liver, or kidney disease; a urinary tract or intestinal obstruction; an enlarged prostate; ulcerative colitis; or myasthenia gravis.

tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking hyoscyamine, call your doctor.

talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking hyoscyamine if you are 65 years of age or older. Older adults should not usually take hyoscyamine because it is not as safe and may not be as effective as other medications that can be used to treat the same condition.

if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you take hyoscyamine.

you should know that this medication may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how hyoscyamine affects you.

ask your doctor about the safe use of alcohol during your treatment with hyoscyamine. Alcohol can make the side effects of this medication worse.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, continue your normal diet.

What side effects can this medication cause?

Hyoscyamine may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

drowsiness

dizziness or lightheadedness

headache

blurred vision

flushing (feeling of warmth)

dry mouth

constipation

difficulty urinating

increased sensitivity to light

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

diarrhea

skin rash

eye pain

fast or irregular heartbeat

Hyoscyamine may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while you are taking this medication.

If you experience a serious side effect, you or your doctor may send a report to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online [at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch] or by phone [1-800-332-1088].

I've suffered from the same problem as you guys for about 2 and a half years. My stomach would constantly make very loud noises. It took over my life and made me so depressed. I wouldn't go around people and I did go to quiet places; I didn't even wanna be around my family! I was so embarrassed to tell people about my problem, but I said enogh is enough and went to see a doctor. I thought the doctor would think I was weird and laugh at me, but she was very nice. She put me on medication called "Hyoscyamine" to stop stomach spasms. She also said this condition is very hereditary and triggered by stress. The medication has helped me a lot; I feel much for happy and confident. I am so glad I decided to see a doctor and end my problem. I hope this information has helped you, and I hope you get your problem fixed. I know how humiliating it is!

Anyone else sick of this taking over your life?
I first encountered this site in 2006, in hopes of finding short, and temporary solutions. Using things like pepto bismol, olive oil, and activia yogurt, I barley managed to get through high school with minimal embarrassment to say the least. I can confidently say that this mess has ruined most of teenage years as i'm now 19. Like others have said, not only does it bring, anxiety, stress, and embarrassment into my life, but after a certain point it begins changing daily life decisions and overall lifestyle. Before I had this issue I never had anxiety and I was generally a much happier person(implying that this issue has most likely irreversibly changed my personality). Avoiding daily quiet social situations(which is practically unavoidable), and isolating my self whenever possible just because of loud stomach noises, sounds idiotic but that's what I've done.

As I'm now starting my second year of university, I have discovered that the problem has only been getting worse, and see myself as to having no choice but to seek a cure, or at least a manageable solution. I went to my doctor a few days ago and said everything that I had been holding back  for years out of embarrassment, I had never of even told my parents about it. He had explained that I have IBS and that it is a very broad functional disorder which there is only treatment for it and not a cure. He almost instantly prescribed me with Hyoscyamine, which I had heard and even knew about before he mentioned it. It has gotten miracle reviews and has seemed to have almost "cured" about 70% of the people with IBS supposidley. So i tried my first pill today and I did notice somewhat of a big difference, I felt as if my digestive system slowed down, although it took about an hour for it to begin kicking in. I would say that my experience with it so far has been good, but had higher hopes of it from other reviews, and it's still to early to say but it did give me a sense of control on my stomach that I usually don't have, other than the growls coming when I began to get hungry. I had felt no other side effects that it warned me about. I can update my further experiences in the future if anyone comes across this and is curious, I'm just taking the time to post this because people here have helped me years ago with other temporary solutions that worked for a short period of time.

 So Thanks.
