I haven't been suffering with this problem as long as some of you who
posted here have, but I can definitely understand your anguish. I too
would be INCREDIBLY embarrassed in class by my stomach making
uncontrollable (and unstoppable) loud noises for no apparent reason.
Most of the time I wasn't hungry at all. But because we've all been told
to associate stomach rumblings with hunger, I would make sure I ate
something just before class, and still, I'd have embarrassing gurlging
(and sometimes GROWLING/GROANING sounds) from my stomach. I would try
not eating anything before class and the same result. I was SO
frustrated and really and truly considered dropping the class. Seems
like such a stupid reason to do so, but it was that traumatizing and
embarrassing.
Anyways... I believe there's about to be a happy ending to this story :-D. After searching my symptoms online (gassy, bloating, gurgling) I landed on many sites that referred to candida. Candida (aka "bad" bacteria) lives in everyone's stomach, mouth and genitals and usually lives happily alongside all the good bacteria. But sometimes because of our diets, we get an overgrowth of candida... it overtakes the good bacteria and this imbalance can give us a ZILLION different ailments and symptoms like the one I described. After reading up on it, I am convinced that Candida overgrowth is what has been going on in my system. Especially because I also have a yeast infection, which I thought was totally unrelated to my stomach problems, and apparently that's one of the top ailments caused by Candida overgrowth.
SO... I'm trying out an "Anti-Candida Diet" to try and balance the good vs bad bacteria in my system and get everything back under control. I MUST get rid of this indigestion, gurgling, gas, bloating, yeast infection, etc. And let me tell you... It's almost 11pm at night, today is only the FIRST day that I've been eating with this Anti-Candida Diet and I've ALREADY noticed WAY less upsetting symptoms and noise from my stomach! The diet is very, very strict (especially hard for me because I don't eat meat), but apparently you won't have to eat this way forever. You just need to starve the Candida by not feeding it what it wants and needs to multiply, and when a significant number of them die off, you can slowly re-introduce those foods again.
The list of food dos and dont's on the Anti-Candida Diet is HUGE, but basically, you MUST eliminate all sugars (refined, raw, organic, maple syrups, honey, even FRUIT sugars. NO Sugar at all!), no flours or grains (except buckwheat, quinoa and a few others), no beans, no fruits, etc. I found information on this from a number of different sites online (definitely do your own research on CANDIDA), but I found this site to be the most helpful, informative and thorough: http://www.thecandidadiet.com/foodstoavoid.htm . I also found some really healthy and good recipes here: http://www.rawfamily.com/recipes . Those recipes may not be tasty to everyone, but as a vegan, I had to dig up some more creative ways to use my veggies since normally grains are a huge part of my diet.
I really hope at least some of few find some solace through this information. It hasn't even been 24 hours and I'm already feeling the benefits. I pray that this is truly the solution and that I'm on the road to having a healthy, happy, flat and quiet stomach :-D.
Good luck! You are not alone!

I've not gone that far with diet changes, but after a lot of heartache I have discovered, by keeping a log of what I eat on certain days when I have class, that I can actually avoid problems by avoiding wheat bread and also milk. Actually, strange though it may be, I found that "sprouted" wheat bread like the Ezekial brand at the health-food stores is actually fine for me. I'm not affiliated with any of those bread-making companies or the health-food stores, but I actually know for certain now that the regular wheat breads cause me a real problem with loud digestive sounds. I wrote this reply to try to help people like me.

In addition to eating breakfast that doesn't involve a lot of fiber, regular wheat bread, or milk, I take a snack with me to class. I've found that not all snacks end up keeping my GI tract quiet. What works well for me if I feel hunger growls coming on (which also make noise but are different from the other types of noise I've experienced) is peanuts. These don't produce any of the digestive sounds that I fear. I can follow that up with a few peanut-butter crackers if I need to. Strangely, I feel that peanut-butter crackers before the peanuts tend to cause noise, so I have to eat in the right order. I'm not making this up. :)

Have a colonoscopy! Never read or heard that loud abdominal noises could be a sign of it. But, it could be your bowels trying to rid themselves of something really threatening. My husband had a similar problem. He was diagnosed with colon cancer. Had surgery. No more noise. Don't want to freak you out, but better safe than sorry.

I've read on some forum that Valerian Root can help because the reason can be your nervous system. I did not think that it can help me because nothing wrong with my nervous system but I decided to try. I will not lose anything but can change everything. I stomach does not make so much noises any more! I also started eating breakfast regularly so maybe it is a combination of both. And sometimes I take probiotics. So I can't say for sure what help but it seems that it's Valerian. It still makes noises when I am hungry but it is manageable at least. Hope my post will help someone!

I would be very careful with this treatment, consistent large doses of vitamin C have been shown to dramatically increase your chances of forming kidney stones.

I have the same embarassing problem with noisy stomach after meals. As I read somewhere- it doesn't kill you but it doesn't let you live :( I'm thinking of starting gluten-free diet and yesterday was reading about some kind of palaeo diet that is good for IBS. Has anyone tried it?

Hey everyone! This is literally the WORST problem ever! I started having these stomach noises my Junior year in high school and they've progressively gotten worse. What I've noticed is they would happen routinely around the same time everyday. It's so embarrassing sitting there and having your stomach make these loud and long noises. I went to my doctor and he suggested adding more fiber to my diet, which didn't seem to help at all, although I wasn't very consistent with it. I've tried a couple things that have sometimes helped but I would love to just erase the problem completely because it is so embarrassing and has really affected my test taking and ability to learn. I will be starting college in the fall and I'm really concerned about this problem.
After i eat (7am) I take a #2 and that keeps my stomach pretty quiet through most of my morning. I also have tried a tbsp of olive oil after i eat a meal and it helps a little.
If this is any help, i was on Jenny Craig for a month and just by eating their meals the stomach noises lessened. I don't know if they add anything to their meals or if i just ate more of a balanced diet everyday (which consisted of three full meals, a salad, protein bar, and snack) but it had some effect. Let me know if you find out anything else!
