Try gargle with Listerine mouth wash and also swallow some it makes me feel better.
You may have hypertensive LES? It's a disorder of the lower esophagus sphincter. I sure hope this helps you!
I've had this problem for a year now..I've been to an ear, nose, throat doc. and they didn't find anything wrong.
I'm not sure if you are still dealing with this, but I deal with this on occasion and it's almost like I have to create a sort of vacuum in the back of my throat to suck the mucous into my mouth so I can spit it out. It wasn't until I was talking to my husband and was like, "You know when you have mucous in the back of your throat and...", and he stared at me and said, "no", that I realized this wasn't common. I saw a good image of the nasal passages and face online and from what I can guess is that either my tonsils are abnormally large or I get tonsillitis which causes some of the mucous to collect right there by the back entryway to my mouth and with mucous being so thick at times it would make sense that it feels like it is being sucked through a small passage in my throat with large tonsils in the way. So it makes me wonder if this happens all the time, maybe see if you could get your tonsils removed? Just my common sense reasoning, but it sounds good to me. Good luck.
My dad also sucks in instead of blowing out I realized recently.....
I know this is a year later, but I have the same problem. My doctor diagnosed me with Rhinitis. This is where mucus drains from your nose to your throat. Unfortunately, my symptoms are terrible today! I would talk to your doctor before assuming that you have Rhinitis, since I am not a doctor, myself.
In my case, I was given a prescription of a specific type of Claritin to take every day. Unfortunately, I have not been taking it every day because I'm afraid of my body becoming immune to the prescription after taking it for a long period of time. A person with bad allergies's worst nightmare is allergy medicine that does not work. In fact, I took Claritin last night, and it did nothing, and I RARELY take allergy medicine. I only take it when I feel absolutely terrible. I guess with this rain and constant weather change that Claritin will not win this battle.
With my symptoms I just have to suck it up and use my own methods. Lying flat on the bed helps me get the mucus out of my throat sometimes, and so does sitting up in bed where my neck is somewhat arched. I just try to think of ways of getting the mucus in my throats closer to where I can get it out. I also use a peppermint or a cough drop from time to time to relieve my throat and, hopefully, break up the excess mucus.
Like you, my parents dismissed it as just bad allergies. My siblings always thought I was over dramatic with my constant coughing, and they were always grossed out about it. I never went to a doctor about it until I was in college. Fortunately, I had a terrific doctor and it was covered by student fees. My constant coughing still gets on some people's nerves from time to time, but my family is now much more patient with me and supportive because they know that I can't help that I have Rhinitis. In fact, the most my fiancé thinks of it is that he feels terrible that I have to be so uncomfortable from time to time. He is definitely a keeper.
Good luck dealing with the symptoms! If nothing that your doctor prescribed has helped yet, I would revisit your doctor!
I am 55 and have had this problem for years, I have drainage in the bad of my throats all the time, I seem to live on Halls cough drop, sometimes it gets so bad I have to pull the car over cause I get sick, my husband says to just cough it up but it's not that easy, I came in this site to see if there was a sucker out there to stick down my throat to suck it up, do you know of anything?????
I don't have my tonsils, they were taking out when I was 6 years old and I am now 60. I have this same problem for almost two years now. I am on medications for various illnesses. I have never had allergies in the past. Someone here said they needed a vacuum, I also have wanted to get one of those bulbs used with babies with a longer point on it. It feels like to suck it out would give me some relief. I also cough bad in my sleep. I wish someone would find a cure for this. It has effected my sense of taste and smell.
I have been having this problem for a year I have phlegm in my throat So my dr is referring me to have a cat Scan of the sinus .. and Referring me to a ENT .. not sure what I’m up against .. thanks
I've had this for over 4 years and it is constant except while I am eating. Then worse after eating. I've seen numerous doctors, including ENT's, neurologists, integrated medicine doctors, nutritionists, and GI specialists, with no improvements. Current doctors suspect swallowing problems due to possible neurological issues and I have been doing swallowing exercises still with no improvement. Very bothersome and frustrating.
i have the same problem i am really tired of it
