constant sore throat what is it?

I have had this ridiculous sore throat for one month now. It started with a fever of 103.0 F. I had a headache, chills and a very raw sore throat. I was in pain, horrible pain. Then I went to the doctor two days later. She gave me a z-pac (erythromiacin). It brought my temperature down to a more barable level. The throat got a tiny bit better, but the I got a bad productive cough, with blood in it and wheezing. This lasted for over two weeks. Just as I was starting to feel a little bit better, (note the word little) my boss came to work. She is a nurse and she has this terrible nasty habit of coughing without covering her mouth and then she rarely washes her hands. She had been sick the whole thanksgiving weekend. Within two days of her coming to work coughing a whole lot, and not washing her hands or covering her mouth, I came down really sick again with a full blown sore throat, lower grade fever and my cough got worse. I have been that way ever since. So I went to the doctor and the doctor said a sore throat for a month is not normal. She said she would give me tramadol for the pain. She said I was not contagious. I don't know what to think. I told her z-pac never really works for me and that most doctors think it has been so overused that it is about useless. I asked her if I should take another antibiotic. I told her one time before I had a similar bout of this over a year ago and I took one course of omnicef and got better in an few days. She basically scolded me and said she was not going to order anything but tramadol which is ultram. I am allergic to ultram. I told her thank you but that I would rather just tough it out rather than have an allergic reaction to her drug of choice for this problem. I am a nurse, but I have little or no confidence in the medical system these days. I guess I just get to keep feeling like crapp. Who knows, someday it will go away I guess.....it is just keeping my patience in tact until that day comes!

HI, I would highly recommend to get throat swabs taken into STIs. If you had a unprotected oral sex (sucking penis or anus) you might have a bacterial, viral or fungal infection on your throat. PPL just dont realize but its very dangerous! So ask yourself: did I have any unprotected oral sex before diseas stroke? Good Luck Everyone!

going thru almost the same thing. Went to the doctor about 6 weeks ago after suffering with sore throat since the start of this year. No headache, no congestion, was told it is not strep. Took antibiotic for 10 days, that helped a little bit. Now, mostly mornings, am coughing up musus with some blood in it. Still have the slightly swollen sore glands on each side. am going back to the doctor. Hope he has an answer this time.

i have the same problem as u iv only been like it for 2 weeks but it so sore it feels like iv swollowed razor blades, but i was watchin embarresing bodies yesterday nd not meaning to scare any 1 but i worried when i saw that these r actually the 1st symptoms to meningitis :/ .... hope u all get better soon :) much love x

just a quick update. Went on my own to An ENT doctor after going thru 3 different antibiotics prescribed by my primary care doctor with no improvement. He took one look and immediately booked me for biopsy surgery. Am now sitting at home using pain med oxycodone so I can at least eat something and waiting for the results on Wed the 25th April.

hi i would like to no what it is has well has ive had my bad throat now about 3 weeks and and cough for about 2 weeks. my ears r pain full my neck hurts. the doctor just gave me antibiotix....done no gd ?

POSSIBLE SOLUTION?

I have read someone with symptoms very similar to you guys above saying that the reason was a chronic gas leak in their house....you can't smell it if it comes out very slowly....

I would check this out just in case,

i have had a sore throat for nearly 12 weeks with virus. used abx x 4. i have me/cfs this can have sore throat but not this bad. it is my voice that goes missing. i prob have pnd. so will try the saline rinse tomorrow. but have used a few sprays. and sudafed. i have had surgery in the past. i have appt with ent. next friday.
i have looked at allergies. dont feel well enough to do anything else.
ducted heating ?

it first started with a fever and pain in the right ear but all that was healed and i was left with a soar t for like 3 weeks then stoped for a couple days and now its back i smoke cigs and drink on the weekends im 17 and this sh*t is making me paranoid i took antibiotics cough drops meds nothin seems to make it any better

there does seem to be a virus. bacteria going around that last a long time. i did have a test with ent. down my throat. she said one nose was blocked (deviated septum not corrected last surgery .still a problem )

said throat was still red, but it could be from i forget medical term. but from stomach acid rising into throat. i did take the medication but i dont think it helped. i feel quite well now. and am not taking the medication. i also looked at food intolerances and chilli showed up oddly enough i was using this to cure my sore throat. i do get ulcers if i eat Thai food. also dairy intolerance which i already knew about.

have not done fructose testing.

Ive had a sore throat for a lil over a month now.........I had to go to the hospital last week because my bronchial tubes closed and i couldnt really breath. They put me on steroids to relax my muscles so i can breath and gave me a inhailer and meds for my nebulizer since i have azthma tho it only occurrs during change in weather. They told me to follow up with my family doc and get blood tests done. I hope they find whats wrong cause im getting worried. And the inhailer and stuff isnt working as well as it did when i first started using it. Ive cleaned my room completely.........Dust free. Even have a humidifier to help me and nothing sems to help. I go to slep and wake up barely breathing and have to use the nebulizer. And ive tried claritin, cough drops, hot showers, u name it. Thursday i have an app with my doc so hopefully he can tell me whats up cuase this is killing me. Ill come back and post my results when i get them.

I have had a extremely sore throat for 1 month now. Ive been to the doctor who said gargle with salt and water - Ive tried Benedine - lozenges - nothing has worked. My throat is so raw and feels like something is sticking into my voicebox(but there is nothing there). I think its a new virus out there which I am prone to get or maybe its radiation - dont know. I will try the cayenne gargle and see how that goes and the saline nose solution so thanks for your help.
