I had the ablation done 12/17/09 and as of today 1/29/10 I am still spotting (six weeks) not to mention I was having a period when I had the procedure so I have now been spotting or having a period for seven weeks now. I called my Dr. today and they told me to call back in a week if I am still spotting. Very strange one day bright red blood one day dark brown but without fail there is some spotting. At my post op visit my Dr. told me "most women never have another period", obviously I don't fall into the "most women" category.

Before the procedure I was having heavy periods with clotting every two weeks. I have not decided which is worse the constant spotting or the periods every two weeks. I have read all of the comments on this page and I am not feeling very confident that it is going to stop anytime soon. If it's not better soon I am going to see if I can get a hysterectomy, this is very frustrating.

I had my EA in November 2007 at age 45. After 6 to 8 mos of light periods, had no bleeding at all. Thought I was a great success story. Now months of mild pain in my side, has turned into severe pain, possible "debris" in my right fallopian tube fragment, unusual shaped endometrial lining, and sudden bleeding and severe pain bad enough to scare me into going to the ER. I still feel fortunate to have had some luck with this for as long as I did, but also have to wonder about the followup on women like us who have continuing problems, or in my case and others written here who have had sudden recurrence of bleeding years later. My uterus is enlarged and very painful. The doctor said D&C, hysteroscopy and salpingectomy in a month - I may not have the bleeding, but don't think I can take the pain for that long. Anyway, I think there are more side effects than are being investigated. Will give updates if I learn anything.

Hello all. I just recently had a NovaSure endometrial ablation on February 10, 2010 & stumbled upon this site after googling excessive bleeding bleeding after endometrial ablation. I always had extremely heavy peroids & like others had the embarrassing leaks, constantly soaked through pads etc. I figured if nothing this the procedure would help me to at least have lighter periods & what's the worst that could happen

....well now I see, the worst that could happen is constant bleeding. I have bled for the past 8 days with no end in sight  ....I'm gonna call my OB/GYN tomorrow & schedule an appt. to see what's going on. I have noticed that no one has come back to follow-up & post if whether or not the bleeding subsided & if so when....did anyone every stop bleeding on their own? and if so, after how long?...thanks.

Hello,

I'm 44 years old and had my ablation done 12/29/09. I had post-surgical bleeding for 2 weeks after the procedure. Since then, I have been getting my period every 3 weeks. Currently I am still bleeding and started passing large clots a few days ago. I'm nervous that I'm going down the same road I was on before! (heavy bleeding/clots, etc.). My ob/gyn told me that the ablation doesn't work for 10% of women; I'm hoping I'm not in that 10%. Reading other ppl's posts makes me feel better, to know that others are experiencing similar after-effects. I don't know how long I'm supposed to wait this out. I am also experiencing heavy cramping (lower back)...much worse when I get my period since the ablation was done. I want to avoid a hysterectomy but am beginning to wonder if that is going to be possible.

I had my ablation done in November 2009, because of heavy bleeding was bleeding so bad that I have to have 2 units of blood in Oct. and then went in for my procedure in Nov. and they had to give me 4 more units of blood. I told my doctor I was bleeding for weeks at a time and he just didn't think it was that big of a deal. Then after the first 2 units of blood decide we should do the procedure. It went very well felt better after then I have in a long time. Just spotted for about 2 weeks after. But now still have period every three weeks, but at least now they stop in 7 days and 3 weeks at a time. I was hoping that it would stop it alltogether but no such luck for me. The first two days are still really bad but after that very light for the rest. I'm 44 years old. All in all I'm glad I had it done, at least now it's only 2 days a month that I have to be very carefull with I go out.

I'm 47 I had an ablation 02/09 and have had 3 periods but they last a month. I'm now experiencing period 3 for 20 days and go to my GYN in 5 days to talk about a hysterectomy. I'm scared that will change who I am as a women, in that, I won't have desire anymore.
We have heart disease in my family so birth control pills are out.
Should I just wait it out?

Hi ladies. I am a 24year old female and had my novasure ablation 1/2010. The reason I had the procedure is because I gave birth to my third child in August 2009 and had not stopped bleeding since I gave birth. I optionally had a audeona tubal done in October 2009. I went back in January 2009 for a yearly pap and the doctor asked me when my last peroid was and I told him I couldnt tell you since before I was pregnant. He did testing and found some polyps and ran a biopsy and he opted to do do the ablation to fix my bleeding problem. Procedure went fine in January and I was back to normal activity the next day only thing is that to this day I am still bleeding. It has been almost 3monthes now and after my post op visit with the doctor he said it is not like magic give it three monthes and if it does not work we will do a hysterectomy. Well I have had maybe a week in the past 3monthes without bleeding. I can not tell when I have a period because my bleeding is just so unusual with some days being heavy, others light, dark red, bright red, and even brownish colors and not to discuss anyone the smeel is awful. I am so embaressed most of the time to even have sex with my husband. The few days that I have not bleed and taken advantage of having sex afterwards I start right back to bleeding again. Eight monthes of non stop bleeding. Please help someone. I am going to call the doctor tomorrow tosee what he can do because pads and tampoons are getting to expensive. I am not happy about a hysterectomy at the age of 24 but may take advantage of it if the doctor recomends it because my insurance will pay for it in full.

I had the ablation done a week ago friday. At first it was just watery and no pain at all! Later in the week it turned into watery blood. It got a little heavery, but wondering if its because I was doing heavy lifting? After reading these post I am now freaked out! I was not told how long it would last, but 6 weeks and more??!! I might go crazy if I have to deal with this for a year or more. I am now wishing I never had this done. Has ANYONE had a good experience with this? I know I am only a week out but the thought of having even a never ending period not matter how light is unnerving!

Hi i had the EA done on the 1st April, after the op i had no pain and have not had any since. I had light spotting to start the a couple of weeks of watery blood then a couple of weeks of spotting. I have not had anything now for nearly 4 weeks and if I do have a period, i am due on on 30/5/10. I do not have any pain which i normally get at least a week before a period so it fingers crossed after years of heavy painful periods lasting for a couple of weeks and the past 12 months 3 weeks out of 4 bleeding I feel I am getting my life back. I would recommend it. Just give it time.

It has been six weeks since my ablation and I am still bleeding with no sign of slow down. Like others who have posted I had less blood after the procedure than I have now...not really a whole lot...but it just keeps coming and I feel disgusting. I have a sister and several friends who had the same procedure with stellar results...minimal bleeding, fast recovery and very light periods. Like the rest of you, I'm so tired of the mess, the hassle, being anemic, yuk. There is some comfort in knowing that I'm not the only one that has had problems, but I sure would like some answers.

I had my d&c with ablation done on June 18, 2010 and for the first week I had zero to light spotting, sometimes red, sometimes clear, then it went away for a week. When I was originally supposed to have a period on the 26th I had level 7 out of 10 pain with 10 being the worst pain. Anti-inflammatory meds didn't work so I had to take a narcotic pain reliever that was left over from surgery. The on call physician recommended it. It makes me sleepy which I don't like. I had a tremendous amount of pain (from cramping) for 1.5 days. That same week no bleeding or spotting. July 5th week I started bleeding enough to need more than a light pad because the doctor said this is what to expect. He said reassuringly that this could happen up to 2 more times and if it doesn't stop bleeding as a period would or if it winds up continuous then I could go for a hysterectomy. Of course this would also depend on if I have other issues that are normal with a period even with or without bleeding. I am hopeful yet discouraged. I wish I canceled the procedure at the hospital initially to reschedule for a hysterectomy originally but because my husband didn't want to have to ask for another day off I went ahead with it.

Since my insurance will cover everything minus $531 for anything else I do this year I might ask for a hysterectomy anyways after 3 months. The doc said in 3 months from date of surgery will tell us if I need one. If I were to go back and had it my way where my husband would have to take another day off instead, I would of just went for the hysterectomy. I read up where in prior posts and other forums (before and after my surgery) that more women are going back for hysterectomy anyways because of issues that were supposed to get cleared up and got worse instead. I'm happy with those who got this done in their child bearing years and it worked for them. However, I am 37 years old and done with having more kids, I have 2 beautiful little girls and I am blessed, so if I could do this again I would of done the hysterectomy the first time and called it a day. I'll post an update later on depending on the responses. I advise everyone to read up on the procedures available. I have heard that the Novasure with the radio waves is more painful cramp wise even though it's quicker for the operating room costs. Which is only great if you don't have insurance because around here operating room costs are average of $210 a minute. The d&c with ablation was a 90 minute procedure because even though they called it a Novasure, there's was with hot water even though you're totally knocked out through the procedure. After I had mine done, it burned to pee for the first 12 hours. After that the pain when I went to the bathroom was gone. My insurance knocked down the OR costs from $20,000 down to $12,000. I had to pay about $3,100 out of pocket. Sweet deal if you ask me! Would of been better put towards a hysterectomy though in my opinion. =)

All I can say is do your research....God bless and I hope things work out for you.

had my hydro ablation on sept. 17, 2010. i also had my tubes tied. i'm 42. i only needed to pain pills the day after. for a week, there was pastel pink discharge. the next week it was clear. on my follow up apt, 2 weeks later, i wasn't having any discharge. now, today, 2 days later, i'm having a light pink, brownish discharge, no odor, and mild cramping and lower back pain. technically, i'm supposed to start at the end of next week. so i'm not sure what's going to happen with me. my dr. told me it will take about 3 months to determine how, or if i'll even have a period each month. lovely.
