I am 74 and your post could have been mine. I have some pain below scar on buttocks and thought I had injured myself- I have been lifting and packing moving boxes for my daughters and probably have overdone it. I work 30-45 minutes and then rest the remainder of the day. I just want to be pain free and be able to drive on a road trip later this summer. anyone else feel the same way?. And yes,I have had my pity parties!

Hi there. When was your surgery as it doesnt say? I am 38 and have had a total hip replacement on my right hip. I am almost 8 weeks now and everything was going great until 4 days ago. I sat on a different chair for an hour and since then i am in extreme pain. All around my scar, down back of thigh, buttock and the hip itself. I am fine when i stand, lie down, sit in bed, but as soon as i walk it is agonising and almost like a burning grinding feeling on the hip. I was walking around the house without crutch and without pain but now i am in pain when i walk even with the stick and i am limping real bad because it is so sore. I dont have ortho appointment for another 2 weeks but dont know if i can wait that long. Did you get to the bottom of your issue? I am so worried i have done something wrong. I havnt been out the house in 4 days and stopped doing my excercises and have had to up my meds but still pain isnt easing off. Very worrying when i have been great up until this point.

I am having the same pains after hip replacement, I cant help but wonder if the hip replacement was required, i had no cartilage loss and was told i had a small tare which i never noticed on MRI,. but i am not a doctor, my pain got worse with burning down my leg right leg, I ask if the prosthetic caused heat, but was told it was just the circulation returning, I complained of lower back pain and the doctors assistant sent me for a spine MRI, It showed a disc out of alignment and a bad case of spinal stenosis caused by the out of alignment disc. I was told by surgeop that he needed to take one last xray of my spine to rule out the pain as coming from the spine, another specialist told me there should have been an MRI which now clearly shows the problem I am having, I can not help but wonder if the hip replacement was a mistake and that surgery to realign spine and to fuse spin would have been the correct solution. Just tried having injection in my spine and feel much better but still experience some numbness and not sure how long this will last. Just makes me feel bad to think I went through that hip replacement surgery and the problem is still with me and now face another surgery and more down time

I'm not a doctor. It sounds like the pain you are having outside upper outer part of the leg could very well be bursitis, I have a issue with this. When I went to the doctors he grabbed the side of the my leg and the pain was crazy bad. He then told me that I wouldn't be what they had to do to the leg to be able to detach it he said he had to lay on the operated side apply all his body pressure and twist and hammer the leg until it is detached. Check with your doctor. As far as the groin hurting I also have that it even hurts when I cough. All I know is that pain approximately one year before now four months later, I'm so over this. The only thing that will lesser the pain is time. It seems mine is getting more painful and he says that it is normal. I did find something that really does work for about a hour. Hot bath with one cup of Epsom salt, I'm not sure why but it does work. I do the bath 4 times a day. I truly wish you the best in luck. I feel your pain.

I am 4.5 months out from THR. I'm 60, slim, athletic and thought I'd have no problems. Wrong. PT referred me back to surgeon to find why I had such a sharp pain anytime i raised my leg (like doing heel slides). It seems my tendon is extremely tight and PT thought perhaps scar tissue formed around the nerves so when I bend the scar tissue compresses and fires off the nerves. Surgeon had two suggestions: get on the wait list for an arthoscopy to debride the scar tissue and tendon, and take a concentrated dose of oral cortisone. I'm doing both and am on second day of steroids. Felt like a million bucks yesterday, not as good today. I hope not to have the surgery, though.

I hope this reply doesn't come too late. I posted as Guest the response directly above yours. I ended up not having the arthroscopy because, based on my description that the pain was on the outside (same as yours), the surgeon ordered more x-rays and found the appliance was LOOSE and had slipped out of position! It took him some moments going back and forth between older and new x-rays to find it, but once he did he was able to show it to me and it was obvious. I ended up having a revision done last month. This time it was posterior and I'm still recovering. I hope this helps you with a conversation with your surgeon.

May I ask, what did the surgeon do during the revision? I have spent the last 2 months feeling like a failure, maybe even earlier, because I'm NOT better. I try to do the exercises, especially the side leg lifts, and I can hear/feel my hip joint "catching" every time my leg raises. Can't help feeling I was sold a lie....
