Yes. It causes severe headaches. For about 3 months I was dealing with awful headaches and being tired all of the time. So I finally made a doctors appointment and they took a blood test and said that I was anemic. My iron was extremely extremely low and my vitamin d was low as well. They prescribed me medication which got me back on the right track. I'm very forgetful and haven't taken it in a while and now the tiredness and headaches are back. Talk to your doctor and get help before it gets too serious.

Thank you for the comprehensive answer. I underwent a Catheter Ablation on Nov. 5th and after the procedure, which was aborted due to a nick to a nerve close to my diaphragm (I also required 2 units of blood due to bleeding, yup it was a truly memorable experience) Since then, I have experienced the symptoms you had listed excluding; fast heartbeat and chest pain. I was using the web to find the possible cause of my headaches and your response helped me to find some relief, Anemia. I realize the road to recovery is long, bumpy, treacherous, blah, blah, blah! But at least I AM ON IT!!

I do intravenous infusions every six months. Because it goes right into the blood stream it works ;as opposed to the oral pills which did not do much for me)

Hi. As a mom I had to reply to your post. I too am being treated for anemia and know what a struggle it is to always feel sick, tired, and have difficulty concentrating. My anemia is suspected to be a b12 vitamin deficiency. I bring this up because you said you are a vegetarian and since the only nutritional source of b12 is meat, eggs, and milk. Definitely talk to your mom! She's there so you don't have to go through this alone. Also ask your doc if he could check your b12. B12 supplement are sold over the counter. Good luck and God bless!

I understand! Been going through this same scenario for years too! Had to quit my job due to the severe migraines I was experiencing. Try diiferent types of iron. I take ferrous fumat 300mg a day. Do not take with calcium! iron and calcium bind to each other. Take it before bed with vitamin C. Still sometimes we need extra help. I'm getting an ablasion next month, The specialist told me he's doing 80percent less hysterectomies now. Highly recommend you look into it. Less invasive and much quicker recovery. Hope this helps! Jennifer

Sesame seeds are high in iron content since we are vegetarians, so are all beans/lentils etc. i dont know if you can eat these but if you can perhaps that will help

It's not always iron related.

anyone having these symptoms needs to speak to a medical professional - speak to your mum and go see your doctor. You may even need a blood transfusion. Anemia might only seem like a minor problem but if left untreated or if insufficiently treated it can be fatal.

I suffer from severe headaches several times a month. I recently had a hysterectomy removal of only my fallopian tube. A hysterectomy was suggested due to amount of blood i was losing. It had been three months. Im taking 2 iton tabletd a day snd have been for the last year. Before surgery my blood count was 9.8 now 3 months later after surgery my count is 8.4 I don't understand this.

I am anemic and right now I am going once per week for iron infusions. The doctor said he didn't know how I was even functioning my levels were so low. There is blood in my stool so I had a endoscopy and colonoscopy and didn't find anything so as of right now not sure where the bleeding is coming from.. I go see the doctor next week to have my levels tested again.
